A red state-blue state divorce plan: Secessionists, here's how some of us want to divide the country
The Minneapolis-St. Paul Star-Tribune ^ | November 23, 2012 | Paul Vandevelder

We in the blue states hear from the talking heads on Fox News and MSNBC that many of you in the red states are so distressed about the outcome of the elections that you would like to secede from the Union. Now, it seems that at least six of you -- Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina -- have submitted enough signatures (25,000) on petitions to the White House website to merit a formal response, with more petitions on the way.

We wish you the best of luck with this. We feel your pain. If we can speak frankly, it's been coming for a long, long time. The question now is: What's next?

First, we're happy to report that most people here in Oregon, Washington and California think you're really on to something. This marriage has run its course. Too many niggling little things built up over time, driving us all crazy. So let's just stop. It's time to divvy up the china and draft a property settlement. In the spirit of fairness and goodwill, we propose the following as a starting point.

We'll keep the West Coast, Nevada and Hawaii, New York, the rest of the Northeast and all the other states that turned blue on election night. You guys get Texas, Mississippi, the rest of the Confederacy and all the other states that turned red on election night. Alaska can do whatever it wants. It does what it wants anyway.

One caveat here. We've been asked by the citizens of Austin, Texas, to give them sanctuary, so we'll keep Austin as a territorial protectorate, along with Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Samoa, and you can have Key West...

The left is giggling themselves silly with the idea of separation, but their understanding of history is shallow.

The Confederates were the slave states. The analogy in the modern context are the Democrat-controlled areas of the United States, where the powerful elite sit astride a mass of poor people. The wealthy of the Upper West Side are aligned with the poor of the Bronx and Brooklyn. The Confederates had actual slaves yoked to the state; the modern liberal elites have enslaved people to the state with the promise of free material goods in exchange for votes. Yes, the analogy is imperfect, but then history doesn’t repeat itself; only the themes of history repeat themselves.

Not that I would want CWII. A peaceful separation like the one between the Slovaks and the Czechs would be preferred. Maybe it’ll be like the breakup of the old Soviet Union - the left won’t have the stomach for a fight, and in a twinkling the original republic will evaporate. Maybe we’ll be less fortunate, with some horrific spots like Bosnia and other places like Slovenia peacefully parting the ways.

In any way, I see the left as the Confederates in this upcoming battle. They think they have everything they need for an easy victory. We’re the union - coming to the table disorganized, arguing among ourselves, unwilling to stop the opposition.

However, the issue is the same as it was back then. Either we live as free people, or we live enslaved to the state. We can’t have both ideologies in the same place.

God help us.

Any chance that a Constitutional amendment setting up the procedures for secession could be passed?

These people really don’t believe that this is serious. As one of the other posters reminded us from Scripture, a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. America cannot survive the current situation - especially because the goal of the left is to bring down the whole system by giving the makers’ stuff to the takers. The 47% are literally at war with most of the counties in this country. We can’t survive this.

If the counties that love America and the promise of freedom and justice - which, by definition, is that we reap what we sow - were allowed to be separate from the bloodsuckers trying to suck the life out of them, it would mean that the bloodsuckers would be on their own. We would be safe from them and they would have to figure out a way to survive trying to suck blood from a turnip.

What would be the easiest way to get an amendment passed?

I don't know why, they were petitioning for the same thing in 04. Lots of FReepers have convenient memory loss but I haven't forgotten.

I know it — I will NEVER go by the leftists’ terminology and how they redefined the conversation, changing conservative areas into “red” states. Sorry, but that is a Communist color through and through. In their Brave New World, they get to dictate the words we use and just about everything else, but I will never refer to conservative areas that way.

And the donkeys do need to call themselves what they really are, Bolsheviks/Communists.

The blue staters only get the sliver of land on the west coast that is blue. The rest of the west coastal states need to be split east/west to allow the red state counties to join their red interior bretheren.

I refuse to accept the Left’s Jedi Mind trick. We are true BLUE Americans loyal to the Constitution and they are commie RED Bolshevik collectivists. We are not the RED states, people! We are the BLUE states....Don’t believe me? Here:

What great memories! I was young, but I remember this night fondly.

The commie libs did not want to be associated with their true color -— RED! Let’s stop accepting their mind tricks.

What is stupid about this writer is that almost all of the territory of Washington is red. Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia are blue. That’s it. Good luck extending your liberal mandate across the cascades to eastern Washington. They would secede and either join Idaho or start their own state.

I think that folks who want secession need to get real. That's just not in the cards.

Look at history for the answer. Not only is it possible it will be inevitable once the Federal government finally collapses.

It may be decades from now (I believe within 15yrs), but when the "event" occurs, the States should be ready and willing to dismantle post-haste, all unconstitutional functions of the Federal leviathan. Large numbers of Federal bureaucrats will have to be fired and their pensions revoked.

The other side of a total economic collapse is either a dictatorship or a properly restored, limited Federal Republic. The States will be the key.

Excellent pict. Thanks for posting that. Could you post a national county-by-county map? I think it’s really quite stark.

It looks like an interesting problem for the author. Soon after separation, the new southern government forms its pro-growth, low corporate tax policy. It would quickly have most of the union-infested industries relocating to a pro freedom country, draining the remaining high-tax, anti gun, high crime, high laziness culture of its remaining employer base. What then?

I think the whole secessionist movement is a distraction from what we should be focusing on: building a REAL 10th Amendment movement.

"Blue states my butt. Most of those are red too."

"Exactly. Look at the county-by-county electoral map. Most of IL will be ours, for example."

And most of inland California too. They can keep the beaches, palm trees and Liberal idiots on the coast.

Another thing I am getting sick of is the notion that dem-controlled states are subsidizing repub-controlled states. I am sure after careful analysis, you would find out that most of those transfer payments that go repub-controlled states mostly go to dem constituencies. This also true in dem-controlled states as well. So don’t blame repubs, blame the dems and the dependent class they created in all sections of the country.
