Egypt's Morsi Takes Dictatorial Powers

Egypt's president on Thursday issued constitutional amendments that placed him above judicial oversight and ordered the retrial of Hosni Mubarak for the killing of protesters in last year's uprising.

Mohammed Morsi also decreed immunity for the Islamist-dominated panel drafting a new constitution from any possible court decisions to dissolve it, a threat that had been hanging over the controversial assembly.

Liberal and Christian members withdrew from the assembly during the past week to protest what they say is the hijacking of the process by Morsi's allies, who they saw are trying to push through a document that will have an Islamist slant marginalizing women and minority Christians and infringing on personal liberties. Several courts have been looking into cases demanding the dissolution of the panel.....

Thursday's decisions were read on state television by Morsi's spokesman, Yasser Ali. In a throwback to the days of the authoritarian Mubarak and his predecessor Anwar Sadat and Gamal Abdel-Nasser, the television followed up with a slew of nationalist songs. The introductions of the decrees declared that they were designed to "protect" the revolution and dismantle the old regime, a nod to the revolutionaries who have long complained that not enough was being done to reform the country after Mubarak's 29-year rule.

Morsi narrowly won the presidency — about 52 percent of the vote

CAIRO (Reuters) - Protesters stormed the headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood's party in Alexandria on Friday, throwing chairs and books into the street and setting them alight, after the Egyptian president granted himself sweeping new powers. Supporters of President Mohamed Mursi and opponents also threw stones at each other near a mosque in the city, Egypt's second largest, a witness said. Two cars had glass smashed as the clashes moved away from the area. In Port Said, another port on the Mediterranean, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice party headquarters and pelted it with rocks. Some tried to storm it but did not enter, another witness said. In Cairo, thousands demonstrated against the decree issued on Wednesday night.

I suspect these rioters are jihadist islamcists. The Muzzy brothers are too much a quasi establishment type outfit complete with lots of well off lawyers and others who wear neck ties and shave regularly. Morsi is a man who has started out riding the tiger and now is trying not to end up inside the tiger. Executing Mubarak and some other old regime types is how he hopes to fend the jihadist equivalent of the jacobins off. Good luck to him. Egypt may well look like an Islamic version of France from 1789 to 1794 before these pleasantries end.

The Egyptians at least protest these dictatorial actions and even torched the Muslim brotherhood offices for these actions.

We on the other hand manage a comment or 2 on the Internet to counter the Obama communist's dictatorial actions as when it passed the Dream act with that exective order over the head of Congress.

Here Obama has done similar things with executive orders, etc. and the media doesn't report it so no one hears of it. And we who do hear about Obama’s communist dictator acts, all we do is post some comment on sites such as this on the Internet and then quickly move on to another topic. When will we all get together and protest on the streets, take the fight to the streets here in the U.S.A. against these communist thugs called democrats?

The Enabling Act of 1933, in 2012!

Only in this case, the U.S. is the enabler.

Coincidence that Morsi made his proclamation right after hours of phone calls with Obama? Not on our life. Obama promised support of the new dictator in exchange for the "brokered peace" with Hamas. Lots of aid will be forthcoming as well.
