Russia sent a detachment of ships of the Black Sea Fleet to the coast of the Gaza Strip in order to evacuate Russians in case of escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, a source in the main command of the RF Navy said.

"The detachment of combat ships of the Black Sea Fleet, including the Guards missile cruiser Moskva, the patrol ship Smetliviy, large landing ships Novocherkassk and Saratov, the sea tug MB-304 and the big sea tanker Ivan Bubnov, got the order to remain in the designated area of the Eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea for a possible evacuation of Russian citizens from the area of the Gaza strip in case of escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict", -the Agency's interlocutor said.

It has been coming together fast since Paul and those many years before him prophesied. I remember in the 80’s those who thought Gorbachev was the Anti-Christ because of the mark on his forehead and his leadership of the Soviet Union, America’s foremost enemy at the time. Won’t be long now!

The only naval battles I recall the Russians engaging in was in the Russo-Japanese War of 1905. The Japs kicked the Russians butts.

Back in the 1980’s, the IDF found tunnels in Lebanon dug by the Russians.
They also found documents, plans, supplies for a full scale invasion of teh middle east by Russia.
One object of note that the IDF found: Coffee beans.
Fresh coffee beans.
Coffee beans go bad within three months.
That meant that the Russians had plans to begin their operation at least within three months.
The Israelis going into Lebanon to kick the PLO in the butt derailed that plan.

I’d say Gaza is their backup plan.

Say, do you ever say anything about any articles you post?

Thanks for posting this regardless of others questioning why you didn’t comment.

I’d have missed it otherwise.

Yeah, the Moskva looks like a typical civilian rescue ship. There are five ships in this flotilla. That must be one for each Russian in Gaza unless we are really now getting the news on the ground.

Civilian rescue ship, lolz

Unless they sent a cruise ship defended by the flotilla this was a military mission

I saw her in Sevastopol a couple of years ago. Looking shabby. The Russian Black Sea Fleet is in pretty tough shape. Some of their smaller auxilieries look all right but most of the bigger stuff is laid up. Just not enough money for the required maintenance.

I do believe the Russian Navy mixed it up with the Turkish fleet in the pre-dreadnought days and did very well. Outside of that...

Apparently there is also a MOSKVA CLASS helo-carrying cruisers. Sending one of those might make some sense for rescue, maybe the reporter is just stupid?
