When black voters gave President Barack Obama 93 percent support on Election Day in defiance of predictions that they might sit it out this year, black leaders breathed a collective sigh of relief.
That encouraged those leaders to try to leverage more attention from both Obama and Congress. Although they waver over how much to demand from the president particularly in light of defeated GOP challenger Mitt Romney's assertion that Obama gave "gifts" to minorities in exchange for their votes they are delivering postelection wish lists to the president anyway.
"I think the president heard us loud and clear. The collective message was, 'Let's build on where we already are,'" the Rev. Al Sharpton told reporters after a White House meeting last week with a collection of advocates representing largely Democratic constituencies.

In my experience (I live near and work in towns with large Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Brazilian populations), this statement is mostly right: plenty of violent crimes, but more stabbings than outright gun battles. Also plenty of births to single mothers in their teens and twenties — with law enforcement, government healthcare, and bennies for the kids/moms, a great, big circle-jerk of claims on the taxpayer.
The problem with the black community is that they are the least educated of all the different ethnic groups comprising the population. The bulk of jobs has shifted from primarily low trained and heavy labor-intensive jobs to information and skill-intensive jobs. Those least prepared to work in the new paradigm i.e. Blacks, will suffer the most.
Good luck with that. The Kenyan doesn’t need them anymore. Ask Ohio how that’s working out for them. Sudden jump in unemployment. Scheduled cuts to food stamps. Gas prices jumped 15% in most areas the morning after the election.
40 acres? Didn’t Obama just give thousands more acres to the spotted owl? Sharpton, you’re below the spotted owl on B-HO’s list!
