“Does the name Lenny DiNardo ring a bell?”

Without Googling, he was a RS reliever/spot starter who got traded or released. I do remeber he pitched the game of his life against the RS while with Oakland.

“dreadful. I was in Brooklyn when Sciraldi-Gedman-BB had the game 6 meltdown. Sickening.

I was planning on getting to CitiField this past SEPT for my first visit. Got too busy. Try again in ‘13. Ever get to a Binghamton game in the area, like Portland, ME? Or Buffalo vs Pawsox? Or Brooklyn @ Norwich?”

I was a Mets fan, so I was happy. MacNamara was a fool for not pulling Bill Buckner in the field.

I want to go to both the new Yankee and Met stadiums. I’ve been to Lowell and Pawtucket for RS minor league games. Brooklyn would be a hoot - baseball returns to Brooklyn! :)

See strike one, strike two
Pine tar for the world to see
Crowd the batters box

See the sweat and sun
Daytime games are classic gems
150 games better than 162

Ah, they changed the name. Is Newark anti-hockey? I don’t know much about the area. I would think most NE cities would be hockey hotbeads.

The Nets moving to Brookyn was a coup for NYC, anyways.

“Now there is no hockey season anyway, so “The Rock” just sits there...”

They don’t schedule other events there? I know the “Gaah-den” in Boston has concerts, ice shows, etc. there (to offset the the loss of the Bruins). The Celtics also play there, so that minimizes the losses from no NHL.

Brooklyn plays at CT in Norwich. And at Lowell.
DiNardo was a Mets’ farmhand, Sox got him away in a fraudulent Rule 5 selection.

Sox have De La Torre now (relief pitcher), a former Met farmhand, age 27, who the Sox got as part of the Youk trades with CHI. You remember him with Buffalo and Binghamton?

“Brooklyn plays at CT in Norwich. And at Lowell.”

Ah yes. I think it would be fun to see Brookyn in Brooklyn.

DiNardo: Gotcha.

“You remember him with Buffalo and Binghamton?” De La Torre? Not really.

well, i hope they stick with the youngsters and avoid free agents. They got enough on the farm to keep it interesting. 2014 is the ETA for many of them. The Seadogs and Pawsox got plenty of pitching.

1B. It is so tough to come up with a 1B slugger up thru the minors. At least the Sox never get that type of player since Mo Vaughn. They go nobody like that down there now. Many catchers, OFs, starting pitching.

100% agree!

1B. Platoon it. Napoli’s not the answer.

“Is Newark anti-hockey?”

It is a hotbed of Obama voters.

“They don’t schedule other events there?”

They do, but nothing with the regularity of NBA or NHL games. Back when Essex County wanted to build “The Rock”, they insisted there was enough business for 2 such venues (with the understanding that the NJ Devils would stay in the Meadowlands, in Bergen County). As soon as it was finished, Newark & Essex County officials started putting pressure on to close the arena in the Meadowlands, insisting it was stealing business from them (no kidding). Both are now open, and many events (concerts, the circus, etc.) are scheduled at both; the fact is that many whites don’t want to be in Newark after dark, many Newark residents can’t afford tickets to events anyway, and the whole effort to force people from surrounding suburbs into Newark to spend money at night failed.

Moving the Nets to NYC was a victory over urban social engineering; every time Newark had another project thrown their way for “re-vitalization” it has been a flop (a Performing Arts Center, the Newark Bears Stadium - an unaffiliated minor league team). It reminds me of the decision many years ago to first set up the battleship New Jersey in Camden as a museum (where it is prominently featured in Philadelphia’s tourism literature - Philly is right across the Delaware River from Camden), to be joined by a second-rate state aquarium; Camden is still a toilet, and the battleship is cutting staff etc. because it is unprofitable.

Interesting story:

Ed Anzalone, the longtime Jets mascot who does the J-E-T-S chant in the stands, writes in the Metro: “I decided to leave (the Jets-Pats game before halftime) Thursday because the confrontations with other Jets fans have become more common, even though most Jets fans are fantastic. This is an indication of how society has lost and is continuing to lose respect for one another ... I will attend games as usual, just not as Fireman Ed.”

Stay classy Jets fans.

Thanks for the lowdown on Newark. It sounds like Springfield, MA - throw gobs tax dollar$ at it and it still is a perennial dump. The recent highlight of that area was a strip joint (and other “businesses”) that exploded due to a gas leak:

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view/20121126gas_co_official_says_employee_followed_protocol_before_explosion/srvc=home&position=5

Whether it’s Newark, Camden (which I thought was nice, but I understand what you type), or Springfield, dumps are dumps. And all the social engineering (with our dollar$) can’t and won’t fix it.

An NFL Haiku for Monday (from a 49ers fan):

Looks like he can play, and well
Adieu Alex Smith

somehow I cannot develop a taste for poetry that doesn’t rhyme. Even Freeper poetry. But at least it encourages be to develop new interests and leave the political controversial world behind.

So long old battlefield
a new path awaits
what we will find
depends on one’s creative or dirty mind

my car awaits, sitting at the curb
needing repairs while Pete slumbers on
the sluggard soon will regret the wasted days

Freeper Days, so insightful, so inspiring
but a useless talent
in a world so barren

Mickey Dee’s, a special xtra spicy McChicken
Pete bounds out the door headed directly that way
yet, he is a man with no direction

yes, i’ve worked my last campaign. The culture must change, particularly the churches. As long as the churches refuse to move, we cannot get far. It is life in Soviet America. Even if the political climate changes, It’s time for something different.

Northern NJ has plenty of Jets fans (along with Giants fans); south Jersey is Eagles/Phillies fans. Jets fans have a crappy reputation here in NJ.

Camden is probably worse than Newark (it is more like Detroit); you can drive for blocks through abandoned neighborhoods. The ugly truth is that the only way these areas get fixed (along the lines of what is happening in Jersey City) is that they have to send all of the permanently-dependent Obama voters somewhere else. People with money don’t want to live anywhere near them, as borne out in Asbury Park’s “revival” - they tried to attract gays there, but when they realized the Obama voters were only blocks away without any walls or moats protecting them it flopped. As a result, Asbury Park is featured on a ghost town website...

Definitely an awkward situation for the 49ers now at QB.

Um, Chiefs? They are so bad they’ve even lost to the Raiders this year.

Their one win was the OT in New Orleans early in the year when the Saints were playing horribly. They may not get another.

The Browns? They were plus 7 in the turnover margin and beat the Steelers by only 6.

Jaguars, I forget they exist most of the time.

Eagles and Cardinals have imploded as bad as the Jets. The current (true) joke about the Eagles is that the Phillies have won a game more recently. LOL.

As bad as the Jets are I wouldn’t rank them below any of those teams.
