Boehner: Obamacare Must Be on Table During Budget Talks
Newsmax ^ | 11/21/2012 | Unknown

Posted on 11/21/2012 2:48:14 PM PST by diamond6

President Barack Obama must show a willingness to cut back the healthcare reform law during budget negotiations, says House Speaker John Boehner. “President Obama has won re-election, but his healthcare law is still driving up costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire workers. As was the case before the election, Obamacare has to go,” Boehner writes in the Cincinnati Enquirer. “The president’s health care law adds a massive, expensive, unworkable government program at a time when our national debt already exceeds the size of our country’s entire economy. We can’t afford it, and we can’t afford to leave it intact.” Editor’s Note: New 'Obamacare Survival Guide' Reveals Dangers Ahead for Your Healthcare That’s why Boehner already has made it clear that Obamacare must be part of the congressional-White House discussions on reducing government debt. “Congress has a constitutional responsibility to conduct thorough oversight of the executive branch, and congressional oversight will play a critical role in repealing Obamacare going forward,” he writes. With the Supreme Court mostly upholding Obamacare and the president winning re-election, that oversight and state actions are the only avenues left for repeal, Boehner says. House committees can go after various elements of Obamacare, he says. And state governments can do their part by resisting government-run insurance exchanges.

It's a Boehner trap to try and convince Conservatives that he's fighting for us. There hasn't been a “budget” in 4 years and Boehner knows that there's not going to be one in the next 4 so there are no “budget talks”. If he's serious then he'll tie it into the Continuing Resolutions.

It may not be repealed, but we’ve got to get this POS watered down. It’s already having massive problems with funding thanks to GOP governors refusing to implement state exchanges. And businesses are laying off employees left and right.

My prediction if something is done with this monstrosity soon is we will have “10%” official unemployment by the summer, which in reality is much worse.

We can NEVER, NEVER, EVER give up the fight on this. Too much is at stake.

We’ll get the whole set of higher taxes if Boehner attempts to push this.

I think this is good because Obama already raised the stakes by raising his demand for new taxes from $800 billion to $1.6 trillion.

I wish our side could play poker with a straight face. Instead they play tiddly winks, giggling and laughing and craying and showing their hand at every turn.

Boehner will cave.

Look for the lines he has used in the past:

"We are only 1/2 of 1/3. What do you expect me to do?"

AND

"It was the best deal I could get."

Boehner is so full of s**t there is nothing left but rounds of laughter and derision following his public announcements.

Why does he even bother? He could just take his donors’ campaign contributions and do their bidding without all the BS window dressing, the means and the ends will be the same.

what budget. every budget Odumbo submitted was rejected by the Senate. The Senate has not had a budget for over 3 years. Continuing Resolutions is where the issue is to be achieved. Take the so called CR back to 2000 or even back further.

Come on Boehner do you think the American are so stupid that we do not know how screwed up hings are in DC. Boehner when are you going to utilize the backbone God gave you. What about the cahones that you profess to have. Hopefully you are getting a shot of testerone on a regular basis so you stop the senseless weeping and crying.

I will wait and see what happens but I will not hold my breath. Recently Boehner staed that the Republicans must make some sort of compromise to prevent the fiscal cliff. Fiscal Cliff be damned cut , cut and make more cuts. Start in DC - no budget passed by the Senate - no paycheck. Cut the size of government. Eliminate waste. Eliminate needless vacations by Odumbo. Eliminate needless Golfing. Place a moratarorium on Golfing no golf until the issues in DC get discussed. (Taxpayers withold all tax payments, until DC gets its act together).

As I've said many times, Obamacare as it is written will eventually collapse under its own weight. How ironic is it that Obama got re-elected in 2012 and it actually looks like Obamacare might not even get off the ground?

This has nothing to do with Obama, Boehner, or politics in general. U.S. employers have been giving very strong, unmistakeable signals that they simply can't operate with this kind of nonsense in place. THAT is what is ultimately going to bring Obamacare's demise.

This is much better than the usual crap from Boehner. Now he puts ObamaCare on the table and then during negotiations it comes off the table and we pay more taxes. Before it looked like Boehner’s starting place was caving in and paying taxes only to compromise and end up paying even more taxes. so at this point I welcome any slight improvement in our miserable pathetic negotiating position. :-)

Exactly. You got it. When you negotiate, you have to start from a position of strength, not weakness. No reason to feel that Obama has any more of a mandate than the GOP does in the House.

I’m ready to get head over heels over the cliff, if it means we prevent ZERO from causing more harm.

"I think this is good because Obama already raised the stakes by raising his demand for new taxes from $800 billion to $1.6 trillion."

The "1.6 trillion" plan is over a decade: ten years, which is $160 billion per year. $800 billion is the combination of scheduled automatic spending cuts and tax hikes (expiration of tax cuts) during the first year, with the scheduled tax hikes (expiration of tax cuts) of the "fiscal cliff" being near $400 billion per year. So he's wanting to limit the tax hikes to the incomes in the top 40 percent of those who would pay higher taxes under the expiration of the tax cuts. He's enticing the upper middle class to support tax hikes against the "wealthy" (not good good at all but going to happen).

So the choices are between $160 billion in tax hikes and all of the scheduled spending cuts, or nearly $400 billion in tax hikes and compromises against the spending cuts.

The House should leave it alone and resist any and all compromises on the spending cuts. The spending cuts must happen. Only a little over $37 billion of those cuts are against defense spending (per year) and the rest against many useless and detrimental political regulator programs against starting production again. And of course, increase military spending as needed as soon as possible in the near future.
