Take this job and shove it: Fed-up Bangor TV anchors quit on air
Bangor Daily News ^ | 11-20-12 | Andrew Neff

Citing a longstanding battle with upper management over journalistic practices at their Bangor TV stations, news co-anchors Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio announced their resignations at the end of Tuesday’s 6 p.m. newscast.

Michaels and Consiglio, who have a combined 12½ years’ service at WVII (Channel 7) and sister station WFVX (Channel 22), shocked staff members and viewers with their joint resignations Tuesday evening.

“I just wanted to know that I was doing the best job I could and was being honest and ethical as a journalist, and I thought there were times when I wasn’t able to do that,” said Consiglio, a northeastern Connecticut native who broke in with WVII as a sports reporter in April 2006.

Not everyone was shocked by the on-air resignations.

“No, that was unfortunate, but not unexpected,” said Mike Palmer, WVII/WFVX vice president and general manager. “We’ll hire experienced people to fill these positions sooner rather than later.”

Neither reporter had told anyone of their decisions before Tuesday’s newscast.

If they resigned as a matter of principle, then they could not have been liberals.

TV News outlets are structured and have a bureaucracy behind them . The person who slants the news is your news director who directs the readers (anchors= actors really)or even may write the news or review their article and suggest a slant to it, as they’re presenting a story, for them to deliver. Now a reporter has a more independent role but is still not as independent as a commentator

Without knowing who the power behind the thrown is. It’s hard to tell sometimes where they’re (the reader) is comming from. You have to pay attention to the credits as they scroll past quickly on the screen.

"The news media is not news, it is Communist propaganda."

I sometimes have this vision of a scene like a movie trailer showing chaos in the streets and people running wild, looting and pillaging. It is the aftermath of our financial and civil foundation crumbling. The mob is heading to media outlets to seek out "journalists" who have aided the collapse.

In my opinion, journalists who adhere to the principles of fairness and unbiased reporting deserve respect and support, regardless of whatever their own personal political views might be. Bravo to these two.

Just to be clear, almost *all* the newsreaders clame to be "unbiased." Dan Rather, for example, always claimed he was.
