Obama’s FBI Uses Media to Smear a Whistleblower
AIM ^ | November 20, 2012 | Cliff Kincaid

In a story headlined, “FBI Agent in Petraeus Case Under Scrutiny,” The Wall Street Journal began the process of trying to smear the courageous and honest FBI agent who started the investigation that led to the resignation of CIA Director David Petraeus. A so-called “shirtless photo” of the FBI agent was said to be evidence of an illicit affair between the agent and a woman in the case, compromising the entire investigation.

The Journal claimed its information came from “officials familiar with the probe.”

What the officials knew but didn’t disclose to the Journal is that the photo was a joke with no sexual connotations and no possible relevance to the investigation of Petraeus and his mistress, Paula Broadwell.

The media had been duped. Liberal and conservative news outlets, ranging from Talking Points Memo to Hot Air, picked up the smear of the agent in the case. Even Fox News ran with the charge

The so called "shirtless photo" was a joke email sent to many respondents. His wife and supervisor had a copy. Under orders from the Obama Administration the media lied to smear an FBI agent.

well, better than “a joke” the idiot could have said it was at a swim party. Still, if you are an FBI agent, a princess, a prince, a general stay fully clothed, stay inside and don’t trust anybody.

I agree. the photo showed only that the agent had a good sense of humor. he had been at target practice at the range and by coincidencee he resembleded the same silhouettes that he had been shooting at. the only person who could see sexual content in that photo is a person trying to smear him or a person who had not had sex in many many years.

I distrust everything coming from gov. these days. I wonder how many, if any, of the secret service were guilty in the colombian prostitute scandal, or was it obama cleaning out those he didnt like?

I saw the picture and the read the real story and it was no more than one of those silly pictures that people put on Facebook as a joke. No sexual connotation at all. Once again, the media fell for it hook, line and sinker.

If we cannot send funny pictures of ourselves to our friends, then society is too uptight.

A better story is to investigate why someone thought that they could discredit someone for something like that, what the real agenda is, and why the media fell for it. Now that would make some real work for a journalist, so I guess it won't happen.

Yes, he looked like the target dummies. It fully appeared to be a joke. This is a corruption of the FBI and the media in bed. Can the FBI sink lower in the eyes of most people today? Do they not know their reputation?

My impression is not that the media fell for it, though some probably did. My impression was that many in the media deliberately lied to smear an honest FBI agent because the Obama Administration told them to.

The media didn’t fall for anything. They are supporting the administration by publishing the leaks that the administration wants published to ruin the reputation of a good agent who was concerned for his countries security. He didn’t run to the press..he went to Congress who overseas the activities of the executive branch.

How did the media find out that there was in fact such a picture and that it had been sent to Kelley??? It had to have come from the FBI.

From the article:

“The Journal claimed its information came from “officials familiar with the probe.””

Unnamed sources with no identification of position, agency or political agenda are cited. To get the media to lie so eagerly and so blatantly it had to be someone in the Obama Administration. Though I don't doubt there is corruption and dishonesty within the FBI.

Even by the negligible standards of the Obama Administration, this was particularly sleazy. The was not a "shirtless photo" that one would expect from Anthony Weiner; it was a playful but completely innocent picture. To portray it any other way shows malicious deception - okay, I should have expected that from Obama's people.

The worst part though is that even this discussion is a distraction that helps the thug in our White House. Four Americans, including our ambassador, were murdered by a group of terrorists in Libya, who had been selected for "Preferred Terrorist" status by Obama's people. We had hours of warning, and plenty of time to rescue our ambassador and his men. Because our community-organizer-in-chief calculated that letting them die would be to his political benefit, our military was ordered not to intervene, not to rescue, and not to retaliate. The only issue should be the treason of our White House, not the sexual dalliances of the CIA director, an FBI agent, or some other peripheral figure. Instead, the media are wallowing in real and invented sex scandals. Journalists today disgust me as much as the sleaziest of politicians do.

I don’t have much use for Broadwell, but the government came out claiming she was sending e-mails that would scare Charlie Manson. Then, you see the e-mails and think “They sound like e-mails from a friend”. The Obama administration has been playing pretty loose with the facts in this Petraeus case. What do they have to hide? Jill and Natalie have something like $18 million of debt between them. I think Kelley’s husband could work for 60 years and have all his pay go to paying off debt. And Jill Kelley is not someone who’s going to live in an apartment eating ramen while hubby pays off the debt. There’s money involved in this. Big money. Old Natalie just happened to be married to the guy that was handing out the cash and favors in Iraq, and billions of that cash came up missing.
