Where is the “opt out” for the individual?
In most places I have worked, that was the case anyway.
There were two rates, Single and Family.
Other wise as a single man under the age of 25, I would have paid a lot more than the single many at the age of 30.
Many companies do this to avoid law suits and to simplify everything.
Find a copy of Range magazine- the Winter 2013 issue and go to page 89.
The EPA is trying to redefine ‘navigable waterway’ to cover a buffalo wallow.
For those who don’t know what that is, there are thousands of depressions in the Western plains that were buffalo wallows.
It is a slight depression, about the size of a 2 horse trailer, in which the buffalo would paw up the ground to get nice soft dust and then they would lay down & roll in the dust. That gave them a barrier against insects.
Such ‘wallows’ are all over about 16 western states.
The EPA wants to include them in ‘navigable waterways’.
They also want to include the rivelets of water which drain off your roof when snow is melting or it is raining. Another ‘navigable waterway’.
This definition change gives them a reason to come onto your private property at any time, without your permission, to make sure you are not ‘interferring’ with a navigable waterway!!!!
Were you expecting guests? Now, you can!!
So now, a man who is not ever going to encounter pregnancy costs is paying for womens costs for pregnancy.”””
Some companies wanted to make elderly women- well past child bearing age also pay a higher premium.
I fought with one employer that I had had a hysterectomy and since I could never have children, they had to drop my premium.
I sure had them in a tizzy. I actually found another job over the premiums I should not have had to pay.
The beginning of the end for insurers. In order to take on the increased risk of people with pre-ex ‘without’ being able to charge them higher premiums insurers will be forced to increase premiums on ‘everyone’. That will lead to healthy people opting NOT to get insurance but rather pay the small tax. If a healthy person gets sick since an insurer cant deny for pre-ex that person would just go and get insurance at that time. That means less and less healthy people insured and more and more sick people insured. Costs will be more than insurers are bringing in so they will raise premiums more and the above will continue. The death cycle will run its course until the intent of obamacare has arrived. Single payer.
“This has turned into the enslavement of able bodied working aged males”
Extortion: My long time tagline.
And a Permanent Bailout for the 2008 losers of the “financial” paradgm.
“Screw Buckwheats Nazi decrees. Its time for states to arrest federal fascist bureaucrats and send them to prison. Ninety-nine years with possibility for parole in 100 years.”
This is true. People need to carefully look up and understand the definition of Extortion.
“The beginning of the end for insurers”
All the “insurers” in Massachusetts gone under?
I read on another forum how a guy intended to "game" the system. Now he's self employed and pays $1200 per month for his coverage. He's healthy and going to drop that, and pay the $2000 fine (or whatever it is, might be lower.) That saves him a little more than $12,000 per year to pocket and pay for what healthcare he needs. If he gets really sick, he just picks up a policy since pre-existing can't be denied.
“Its is becoming clear that it is over for this program”
I wish I could believe that. Let’s hope and pray you’re right.
I still await the media to identify the cost to all of subsidizing the health care costs of the self destructive homosexual elephant in the room...
http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/the_aca_helps_lgbt_americans.pdf
LGBT individuals have encountered discrimination in the health care system for decades, and many studies have shown that LGBT people are affected by chronic disease at a higher rate than other Americans. The new law has already made aignificant progress toward ending some of the worst insurance company abuses and helping ensure that LGBT Americans have access to coverage when they need it most. For example, the Affordable Care Act ends lifetime dollar limits on key benefits and restricts annual dollar limits until they are ended in 2014, allowing for long-term comprehensive treatment of chronic diseases.
The leftists ignore reality because it clashes with their Utopian vision of government imposed equality of results. Men & Women -the same -- Homosexual perverts and normal people -the same...
If only you’d be advising Romney...
The health insurance industry has been antispating this for a while. Rates will go up until they go out of business for lack of consumers, Otherwise they will go out of business for lack of money.
The key now for that industry is to get into the good states & good graces of Federal & state politicians, as what is left of them will be little more than political puppets providing the cookie cutter policy’s(as dictated by regulations) to our entire population.
I sure hope you have the same Health concerns as the most politically important demographic group, because that is what the only available plans will be designed to deal with financially.
Costs will go up as fast as they possibly can, until the industry collapses.
The basic problem is there is no price control, there was not before, and now there is even less.
The key to our survival will be reviving the out of pocket system to replace the collapsing 3rd party payer system while milking as much of the money taken from us(by Washington) as possible thou scam, decent, and runaround to help offset said losses.
“Why can’t Republican politicians be as good as you at making a point on an issue?”
Simple...the liberal media will not cover that explanation. All they give a damn about is covering Odumbo’s ass.
Blue Cross has already been raising my rates every quarter for over a year now in preparation for this. For my PPO, a year and a half ago my monthly premium was around $750. Now it's now almost $1,000.
It's unsustainable.
Yep, I’m with BCBS of Massachusetts (even though I’m in NC, my company is headquartered in Boston) and my premiums are going up over 20% next year. It’s an effective 2.5% pay cut for me, after getting one 3% raise in the past five years. I’ll be paying almost $350 every two weeks for our plan (which is pretty decent, no complaints about it) and that’s just my contribution, not whatever my company kicks in.
I can’t complain about the plan, but wow was it a shock during open enrollment this week to see those numbers. Thanks, Zero. No, really, thanks.

Insurance companies have an underwriter. The underwriter is sometimes in another state or even another insurance company. The underwriter is like a big pool that pays out claims.
Think State Farm, they are huge. They can offset losses in one location (state) by profits from another location.
So to answer your question, no. You would not see insurance companies folding unless they are based only in Mass and their only product line is health insurance.
With ACA(sarc) all insurance companies will be affected. They will not go under because most insurance companies have other product lines, auto, property, liability, life, etc. Health insurance is not a big money maker as the claims eat into their profit margins.
What you may see is companies dropping health insurance from their product lines. I think The Principal has already done so.
I had explained to my co-worker that insurance is like a big pool. One million clients paying one dollar a month creates a one million dollar pool to pay claims. If the pool was smaller, say 500K then each would pay $2 to get the same size one million dollar pool. He understood that concept.
A week later he came to me claiming I was wrong because under OBcare the pool would be bigger thus cost would be lower. He was all excited to “prove” me wrong.
The bubble busting part came when I told him the extra people would not be paying into the pool. When the realization sank in is when the silence occurred.
Insurance companies provided a huge amount of support for this law. screw em
Doesn’t the premium go up to $200+ in 2014?
I asked every year why I should have to pay more since I had a hysterectomy and couldn't get pregnant. The Insurance company stated the additional cost had nothing to do with pregnancy, but couldn't really explain it otherwise.
Anyhow, Hubby cost them lots more than I did, since he was hospitalized 3 times during that time period. I never spent more than $300.00 a year for Doctor, Dentist, Vision, and Medicine.
Cry me a River about how men have to subsidize women. It ain't necessarily so.
By the way, women do not usually experience immaculate conception. Some man out there is also culpable. Pregnancy takes two to tango.
If someone gets a $30 a month increase, they also pay the $5 Part B increase.
What should happen is every COLA increase should be equal for all SS recipients. It makes much more sense.
Thanks for the clarification. Just going on Medicare next month. Wasn’t sure what to expect. It seems that once you get to a certain age, there’s no private plan available, if you have worked enough to qualify for Medicare, then all you get are the alphabet choices.LOL
That's the idea.
Who will be running this “single payer” system anyway? Will it be insurance companies or government employed insurance agents.
Anyone know how the Brits and Canadians administer their programs?
Get ready? Mine has already gone up.
Here's a good, overall description of the Brit system - coming to a country near you....
The government's hold over medical practice in Britain is becoming ever firmer; it now dictates conditions of work and employment, the number of hours worked, the drugs and other treatments that may be prescribed and the way in which doctors must be trained. Doctors are less and less members of a profession; instead, they are production workers under strict bureaucratic control.
"The doctor explains that while people on SS are complaining of standards of health care, in government hospitals the standard of care is dropping due to increased workload of hospital staff and a growing numbers of patients.
"Now we have waiting lists," he says and compares Thailand to the UK's NHS (National Health Service). "We studied the EU community and their health care systems and wanted to bring that to Thailand," he says, though adds that in many western countries some "responsibility" must come from the patient.
Due to Thailand's UC system now being completely free there is an "over utilisation" of the health care system, he says. Because it's free, and drugs are free, doctors and nurses are "overburdened and overworked". "
The basic problem is there is no price control, there was not before, and now there is even less.
I agree. First and foremost it ceased being true insurance decades ago. What 'they' call insurance is actually a price fixed health maintenance plan that pools the monies of unknown and unanticipated catastrophic and emergency care with anticipated and known expenses.
The insurance companies with the assistance of big government have become a price fixing monopoly middleman not subject to free market forces that profit regardless cost.
Much like the secondary education system, the health system is a bloated pig subsidized and protected by big government.
The bubble will burst eventually...
Not even the same number of working folks. Fewer working folks as companies kill jobs and shed workers to deal with it.
Aren't you jag-offs proud that you re-elected ObaMao? Just wait until the producer class starts competing with you for free stuff.
Just wait until more and more of us start saying "to hell with it!" and decide that we will be wagon riders as well. Or make untaxed cash under the table. Or barter. Or move into the black market. Or even claim to be illegal aliens. I'm dark enough and know a foreign language well enough that I can almost pass.
“expensive, parts of the Affordable Care Act”
Huh?
When the boomers start retiring is when the beast will start hemorrhaging big time.
Rolling out the appealing stuff before the REAL SHTF?
This makes me sick. The unintended consequences are mammoth compared to the do-gooder intention.
If they cover you after you get sick, it isn’t insurance, is it?
But what’s cool about this, Nachum, is that now you guys can get c sections!
Yep. And free male abortions.
eh.
No. It is intended to destroy the insurance companies. Then they will come and introduce the single payer plan they wanted all along.
That would be the "Dearly Departed" section...
“I will bet that it will be government owned insurance companies - so the American people will buy the whole program as not REALLY socialism!”
Privately owned, government controlled corporations, factories, and services is a characteristic of Fascism.

The same will happen in health insurance, everybody will pay an equal but substantially higher premium.
Nope. ObamaPhone Lady won’t pay a dime for full coverage.
It’s not meant to be understood, only manipulated..by design.

Agreed, although this is true of public primary & secondary education as well, with one caveat.
Your not required to attend in every state, and the merits of 2ndary education vs the costs(Directly upon the student, nevermind the 2/3rds burned on everyone else) are becoming increasingly dubious. (Its hard to imagine how wastfull collage has become)
Likewise with copay some healthcare procedures vs alliterative have for a time(until abolished) acted as a bit of a break on price.
Insolently on the education front, we might be able to sell some States into abandoning all public education subsidues in favor of directly fiancing the individual student instead. (a kind of higher education valture).
Such a system would castrate the public university and force them to get rid of much of indoctrination programs in favor of student preferred education. (They would have to to compete with private & tech schools.)
State politicians could further point out that they aren’t cuting education spending, simply redirecting it to the students.
They won, we lost.
This is only the tip of the iceberg Comrades.
Since I have Leukemia, why am I paying $1,300 a month for Health Insurance again?
I should just wait for my overdue relapse and get Insurance coverage the day before I go in for Chemotherapy again.
