'James Bond star Daniel Craig has surprised UK troops at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan by coming to visit them as they prepared to watch his latest film.

Some 800 soldiers, sailors and airmen were waiting for a screening of Skyfall when the 007 star arrived.

Craig was given a tour of the camp after a brief introduction of the latest Bond film to the audience.

He met soldiers and saw some of the training they undergo before they deploy to forward operating bases.

The star was driven around the camp in a Foxhound vehicle by Warrant Officer Class 1 Rob Ingham.

"We get quite a lot of visitors here, but having James Bond was special," said WO1 Ingham.

"He seemed to be pretty comfortable in the driving seat."

At the weapons range Craig was given the chance to fire some of the machine guns used by UK forces.'

As a woman, I think Craig is by far the best Bond....he physically fits the role of a modern day spy and is really not a bad actor. I really like him as this character and the other movies I have seen him in, I find him quite likeable....and did I mention he is a hottie!!!!

“You arent that dumb. You cant be.”

Whatever. I’m also told that this actor, in his personal life, is for gun control.

That may be great over there, but it’s a non-starter with most of us.

Ft. Bastion, where our soldiers were ambused, which has been blacked out in the media due to Petraeus affair.

This was yet another security breach- where our soldiers noticed the wire around the camp kept being cut days before the ambush.

The families are pleading for someone to look into this whole thing, but alas, affairs with Generals are more important.

Just got back from seeing the movie “Skyfall” and I was very troubled by the gay stuff. Just seeing the perp in this movie had the word “gay” all over him.

Oh, so this is the villain’s way of trying to get into Bond’s mind “rent free?’

I always liked Roger Moore myself. Sean Connery, the one Bond movie I do want to see is “Goldfinger”. But Connery I always liked as the father figure in one of the Indiana Jones movies.

For a further appreciation of Daniel Craigs’ work, prior to Bond, run, don’t walk and borrow/rent/buy/steal a sure thing: “Layer Cake”.

He was Bond before he was Bond.

Or Scotland’s most famous Irishman.

It was Craig’s idea.

http://www.towleroad.com/2006/11/daniel_craig_to.html

Daniel Craig has reportedly requested that studio execs “modernize” the Bond series by including gay scenes as well as full-frontals “to please both his male and female admirers” (like Dame Judi Dench).

Said Craig: “Why not? I think in this day and age, fans would have accepted it. I mean, look at (British TV series) Doctor Who - that has had gay scenes in it and no one blinks an eye.”

As a British film buff, and a Bond afficienado, I can assure you the story isnt true. The nearest to the story quoted here are the jokey interview comments he made to a British film magazine.

In fact, as someone who has a close friend who has worked in UK film in production for 18 years (I worked briefly myself in UK film post-university), including Braveheart, Gladiator and Rob Roy, and knows Daniel reasonably well, I can CONFIRM it isnt true.

I know, because I asked him by email when this first appeared in FreeRepublic, so I could post and confirm that it didnt actually happen.
