All the R candidate has to speak about is the basic conservative message.... economic opportunity, keeping most of what you earn through your own efforts, and traditional family values. This will resonate well with at least 80% of the Latino community.

Sorry, but this will not resonate with a poor immigrant, or even a not quiet so poor immigrant, who's semi literate or illiterate in their own language.

What does resonate is 'the state will take care of you'.

Once they become ensconced in society its goodbye smaller government, goodbye lower taxes forever.

To believe otherwise is simply naive.

Does anyone know how Venezuelan Americans voted this time? It would be interesting to see a breakdown within the Latino community in terms of which Latin American country they came from.

NO DOUBT there are some like you say... here just for the welfare handouts.

BUT most of the Latino immigrants we meet are very hard working and they want to get ahead. They are NOT sitting on their butts collecting the dole. (Rather, many native-born “Anglos” do this now.....this is the secret problem nobody is raising....methinks...).

Call any contractor or home repair service in any trade and you will see mostly Latino workers accompanying same, and (so far, anyway) they all work hard here and do good jobs.

They are not sitting at home on welfare and watching Oprah.

I really, really believe that the majority of Latino immigrants are interested in a reasonably conservative economic-opportunity message plus a mostly-traditional-socia-values message, too. Just my personal observations, which may not accurately reflect the total picture, but really this is how it appears from everything I can see. Oh yes, they are also flocking into the high school and public college classes... English classes plus a lot of job training and trades-oriented instructional programs. These are not lazy people, nor are they prone to a life of indolence ...
Well, that is what we see anyway. I hope it is a reasonably accurate reflection of the larger picture? It is at any event the best I can do with this, is to just report what we see...and let you decide what you think of it.
thanks for your note.
