Petraeus Says U.S. Tried to Avoid Tipping Off Terrorists After Libya Attack (Not satire)
New York Times ^ | November 16, 2012 | By ERIC SCHMITT

Posted on 11/16/2012 11:12:38 PM PST by Brad from Tennessee

WASHINGTON — David H. Petraeus, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, told lawmakers on Friday that classified intelligence reports revealed that the deadly assault on the American diplomatic mission in Libya was a terrorist attack, but that the administration refrained from saying it suspected that the perpetrators of the attack were Al Qaeda affiliates and sympathizers to avoid tipping off the groups.

Mr. Petraeus, who resigned last week after admitting to an extramarital affair, said the names of groups suspected in the attack — including Al Qaeda’s franchise in North Africa and a local Libyan group, Ansar al-Shariah — were removed from the public explanation of the attack immediately after the assault to avoid alerting the militants that American intelligence and law enforcement agencies were tracking them, lawmakers said. . .

Or how about my question: Why didn’t our intelligence see this one coming?

Those in authority have been using that forever. And, it has nothing to do with our good, it’s all about THEIR good, as in continuing in power.

The irony is that the only government official who WAS telling the truth about Al Queda in Libya was Mohammar Qaddaffi. But then as Hillary puts it, “We came, we saw, he died”. Further irony is in the fact that the murdered ambassador was part and parcel of that sloppy overthrow.

Can’t have the groups claiming responsibility armed with the knowledge that we suspect them of doing it...Brilliant!

Ah, yes, the old “Let’s make enemy-caused disasters Top Secret - we wouldn’t want the enemy to know what they are doing!” Same thing FDR did with the facts of the U-boat decimation of our shipping upon our entry into WWII. The number of enemy submarines we sunk during the first nine months after Pearl Harbor was classified. Not that Hitler didn’t know the number of his own boats returning to port, of course - it was classified because FDR didn’t want to admit that the number was zero!
FDR wasn’t too keen on publicizing the number of ships Hitler had sunk, either - that was not zero. I read the number, and was fascinated by it, and rechecked it once by getting the book and checking it. But I still can’t cite the number with confidence, because it was so high that I found it extremely difficult to believe. I want to say 700 ships. Seven. Hundred. Ships. We’re talking more than two and a half per day!
Of course we wouldn’t want that to get out! Good thing that Hitler didn't have that information! He might have decorated his submarine commanders or something! </sarcasm>

No, they did not want to tip off the electorate.

“This must be the new strategy for fighting terrorists”

It’s what the MSM does every day, it does not specify race in inter-racial crimes, unless they are “hate crimes” against protected classes.....and we all know how well that has mitigated black on white assaults and murders.

to avoid alerting the militants that American intelligence and law enforcement agencies were tracking them, lawmakers said. . .

It must be true. The statement was issued straight from the Orwellian “Ministry of Truth.”

All lawmakers and “Some intelligence analysts” referred to, in support of the headline, are demoCraps! As Republican King if the headline. In the article Rep King (R) states:
“The fact is, the reference to Al Qaeda was taken out somewhere along the line by someone outside the intelligence community,” Representative Peter T. King, a New York Republican, said after the House hearing. “We need to find out who did it and why.”
That does not support the headline or the demoCraps!

Maybe after the original 9/11 we should’ve pretended the towers were brought down by windshear. Better yet, that they’re still standing.

As crazy as it sounds, I'll bet if there had just been just one hijacked airliner that took down one of the World Trade towers, the government would have claimed it was an "accident". After all, this is the same government that claims TWA 800 suffered a spontaneous combustion of its fuel tank, and proceeded to threaten any witnesses who claimed to have seen a missile strike. Explosive residue found on the TWA 800 was passed off as having been due to an earlier "bomb sniffing training exercise".

The bottom line is big governments don't like to be seen as fallible, and they will do anything to project the myth they are fully in control of the situation.
