Petraeus Says U.S. Tried to Avoid Tipping Off Terrorists After Libya Attack (Not satire)
New York Times ^ | November 16, 2012 | By ERIC SCHMITT

WASHINGTON — David H. Petraeus, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, told lawmakers on Friday that classified intelligence reports revealed that the deadly assault on the American diplomatic mission in Libya was a terrorist attack, but that the administration refrained from saying it suspected that the perpetrators of the attack were Al Qaeda affiliates and sympathizers to avoid tipping off the groups.

Mr. Petraeus, who resigned last week after admitting to an extramarital affair, said the names of groups suspected in the attack — including Al Qaeda’s franchise in North Africa and a local Libyan group, Ansar al-Shariah — were removed from the public explanation of the attack immediately after the assault to avoid alerting the militants that American intelligence and law enforcement agencies were tracking them, lawmakers said. . .

This must be the new strategy for fighting terrorists. Don't say their name. One of the radical groups mentioned in the story bragged on its website that night about attacking the consulate.

Demonic-rats are circling obama’s wagon, including Feinstein.

His admin disputed the notion that politics or other motives caused the changes in Rice’s script.

LIARS ALL.

As soon as the FBI said Petraeus hadn't broken any laws the CIA announced they were investigating him.

Maybe after the original 9/11 we should’ve pretended the towers were brought down by windshear. Better yet, that they’re still standing. If you don’t point to empty space and say, “Gosh, the twins look beautiful today,” the terrorists win.

Right. . .we don’t want to tip off the terrorists in case they may have forgotten they attacked us. ..we don’t want to remind them. . ..this is exactly how Bush should have handled his 911. . .darn!

Thanks Brad for the post. Interesting things are coming out.
I'm going to hold my tongue until this info becomes a little better researched.

Pinging a few folks for their reference. Please do not feel obligated to respond. Of what weight it will bear, should it be shown to be factual, I'll let for us all to determine, as well as both sides of Congress.
BUT. IMHO. It's Bull Shit. Or the good general doen't have a a tenth of the brains I thought he might actually possess.

I cannot help but wonder how say General George S. Patton would have dealt with such a stupid statement.
I'll leave you all in peace. Brad. I'm signing off for the morning. Do have a great upcoming day.

Whoops! I guess I did not hold me tongue. :)

Notice how the questions asked of Petraeus and other information from the White House, all divert away from Rep. King’s question of who changed the original intelligence information from “Al Qaeda” to “terrorists”.

If it wasn’t the CIA (says Petraeus), was it SecyDefense Panetta; National Intelligence Director (now that’s an oxymoron moron if ever there was one) Clapper (I think he’s a complete fool); the head of the National Security Council whoever that is; Obama’s Intelligence Czar Brennan (I think he’s another loser); Intelligence/Foreign Affairs Advisor Donilon (whoever he is); the VP/President, etc?

US Ambassador to the UN should be fired for being so stupid as to tell the lies she did on television. They “say” she was reading from “unclassified intelligence talking points”.

The only “points” were the ones on her head for believing this bullshit. SHe should be fired for sheer stupidity as well as covering up the Benghazi attack by lying to the American people and the whole world. And she is one of Obama’s “best and brightest”? More like “worst, dimmest and stupidest” if you ask me.

This whole affair has more coverups than a Mafia cemetary.

Lock all these stupid bastards up and bring in some 10 year olds to run the damn country, we would be better off!

It would be funny if we had not lost four Americans and if there weren’t other Americans who were severely wounded. What shrink came up with this notion that terrorists will not strike again if you pretend they do not exist? Have these people ever had children?

Never mind that the Arab world was privy to video of the crazy video protesters scaling the hole in the wall at the consulate/mission and later walking through the gate that was not guarded because the cowardly guards wet themselves and ran when the video protesters showed up with weapons and started torching the place. Uh huh. Real smart to pretend there was no terrorist attack. It looked so much better to spread the story about a video unknown to the entire world.

Gee Wally. Would have been too obvious if they wore Al Qeda emblems on their clothes and claimed responsability right after the attack.

So they allowed a slew of sensitive data to fall into terrorists' hands. They failed to send in the FBI for weeks. They allowed CNN to find the Ambassador's diary, including his grave concerns about AQ. They misled Congress, the families of the murdered Americans, and the public. They allowed Tunisia to hold a key suspect so the FBI could not interrogate him (till after the election).

All this to allow AQ time to scatter fhroughout North African canyons and deserts, so they can stealthily sneak up on them like Wile E. Coyote on the Roadrunner. What a diabolically clever plan. That makes sense to the average idiot, sure.

Looks like the real reason Petraeus was fired - I mean resigned was over his unwillingness to go along with all the lies of this government.

Petraeus was given a list of how he was to be ousted... when who knows.. but he selected affair... now he is repeating the focus group tested BS he was instructed to say... By saying the name of a terrorist group it would tip them off.....steaming huge piles of BS. Anyone who believes that crap needs to go back in and have their lobotomy “fixed”. So, when a terrorist group admits to committing an act... say it’s a video...Yea... Dats Da ticket!

Good God, even that bit of flood-the-zone agitprop isn't on script. It was the Rahman Brigades, the Blind Sheik weenies...

"al-Zawahiri wanted revenge for al-Libi -- and remember al-Libi was a terrorist who specialized in attacking embassies! -- and so they get the "Rahman Brigades" to do it as almost a cut-out, instead of AQSL->LIFG, who you would have expected as the first stringers if it had been a Turk-related arms deal gone bad." -- Me
