Boots on the ground: Obama’s cybersecurity directive could allow military deployment within the US
Russia Today ^ | Friday, November 16, 2012 | RT TV

The White House is being asked by attorneys to explain a top-secret presidential policy directive signed last month that may allow for the domestic deployment of the US military for the sake of so-called cybersecurity.

Lawyers with the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) have filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the office of US President Barack Obama in hopes if hearing more about an elusive order signed in secrecy in mid-October but only made public in an article published this week in the Washington Post.

According to persons close to the White House who have seen the order and spoke with the Post, Presidential Policy Directive 20 (PP20) aims to “finalize new rules of engagement that would guide commanders when and how the military can go outside government networks to prevent a cyberattack that could cause significant destruction or casualties.” Attorneys with EPIC are now demanding that they see this secret order to find out what exactly that could mean, citing the possibility of putting boots on the ground in the United States if the government argues it’s imperative for cybersecurity.

Exactly. You can’t trust anything coming out of RT, but every now and then they are actually more honest than our own main stream media. Of course, their intent (RT) is to weaken us anyway they can. The most effective form of propaganda is the truth packaged without any qualifications and without any clarification.

I will volunteer my Dell Windows 7 computer for the cyber-military to deploy against and destroy. I would like to put it out in the middle of the cul-de-sac, gather round some spectator yard chairs so the neighbors can enjoy it too, and then the Pentagon can deploy their latest bunker busters against the Menace from Redmond. I cannot think of a more entertaining way to spend Saturday morning. This is what the directive from Obama is about, right?

Of course, we certainly can’t trust anything coming out of (and much ignored) from CNN/NBC/ABC/CBS.

The John Edwards scandal didn't appear until The Enquirer brought it to light!

they’re the new Pravda

Like you said, we know what comes out of ABCNNBCBS is crap, if it isn't just ignored completely. If someone else is saying it, sometimes it's worth a look.

Wouldn’t this be part of that EO that was made public back in October, enabling the government to essentially take over critical infrastructure—from energy to communications, food , housing and gas?

It did seem like a bizarre power grab, but it was out in the open. Perhaps there was some military enforcement bit that this is focused on?

True. Haven’t they got a stock of three gazillion bullets by now? Is there any part of American life that an armed federal agency doesn’t oversee?

Boots on the ground to control cyber? What exactly are boots on the ground going to do?

Federal Govt agencies don’t even follow their own rules on cyber security, perhaps the bastard could start there.

Thanks Jyotishi.

Don’t worry, cybersecurity, probably means a virtual deployment. /s
