Victor Davis Hanson: A Country Unhinged
Private Papers ^ | November 15, 2012 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 11/16/2012 6:15:00 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

In the last week, it is almost as if the entire American moral landscape has been turned upside down in eerie fashion — in matters that vastly transcend fornication and adultery. The Petraeus-gate matter is the stuff of tabloids now; but soon the real issues relating to when and what Eric Holder knew, and by extension the president, and how exactly Benghazi (the crime of indifference to the besieged, the cover-up of the truth, the actual mission of our consulate and annex) fits into this labyrinth of deceit, both petty and fundamental, may overshadow the present sensationalism.

Nothing seems real anymore, not pre-election federal data on jobs or food stamps or the release of such “facts”; not foreign-policy information like an Iranian attack on a drone; not the supposedly competent federal relief in response to Hurricane Sandy. Even Saddam Hussein’s plebiscites could not achieve margins like the 19,605 to 0 we saw in 59 Philadelphia precincts. Does anyone care?

Susan Rice, who flat out deceived five times in a single day on national TV, is supposedly seriously being considered as Secretary of State when Ms. Clinton leaves — the latter now plans to be “busy” when hearings on Libya resume. (If a John Bolton cannot be confirmed as a UN ambassador, how could Rice avoid a filibuster?) How can anyone now read Broadwell’s book and assume the research and analysis are disinterested?(continued)

These days, I find optimism difficult to come by, but when I do have an optimistic moment, I think that all of this stuff must surely lead to a society that fully embraces limited government — right? I mean: it’s an utter clown circus. Why on earth would people vote to spend $4T a year on such lies, deceit, debauchery, and incompetence? We will, as a country, wise up and eventually just say “No more” — right?

Something to e-mail to every talking head, every Senator and every House rep.

--------------------------------------------------------

Three Facts

Fact One:

1) Only the POTUS can authorize a CBA (cross border authority) command for a rescue mission in a foreign nation.

Plus Fact Two:

2) No rescue mission was attempted.

Equals Fact Three:

3) 0bama turned his back on 41 State Dept. and CIA employees refusing to issue a CBA command and went to bed so he could go to Las Vegas the next day.

All the Western nations are dying, and have been for over 40 years. When your highest ideal is non-discrimination & equality it blots out all rational thought. These are amazing times. In many respects we are seeing the begining of the end of the Western world. A great darkness will soon cover the globe. In 100 years I suspect civilization as we know it will be long gone.

And how did that lead to an FBI agent photographing himself bare-chested and apparently infatuated with a married mother of three?

Misreading of the evidence. He is spouting what the left is pushing. I expect better of him.

Our country has gone insane. There are parts which still work but for the most part the country is crazy.

The odd think is how countries last after they have gone insane. Rome in the time of Nero Claudious and Calligula and many more was totall 100% crazy.

What kept the government going was the civil service. Those lower paid guys who just went about their business keeping the empire going.

Eventually even the civil service will surrender and all hell breaks loose. That is where you don’t want to be either at that time of place.

We will be there soon. We alrady have a modern nero as president.

Have not read the article yet, but my thoughts are that we are experiencing exactly what the greatest generation experienced. The roaring 20’s crash, depression and the world war that is sure to follow. Before a world can go to war, utter despair must take hold. Unfortunately, we lack the character and moral fiber of the greatest generation. So the outcome is far from certain. Guess we can find solace in the fact that millions of people feel just like us. Imagine how the Israelis feel right now. The latest rockets attacks near Tel Aviv and Jerusalem put 3.5 million Israeli’s within range.

Don't know why, but I think that if Israel suffered a Nuclear attack the Pretender In Chief would just let it happen.

Our enemies must look upon the apparent Apathy that has taken hold of our Nation as a sign of weakness. They will run roughshod over us knowing that we will do nothing in protest.

Four Americans Murdered due to Obama’s incompetence and whose names the average Citizen doesn't recognize, while we have Peyton Place at the Pentagon being reported on TMZ.

We are done as a Republic, no doubt about it. As soon as I realized the Kenyan won Reelection, I knew the Nation was too far gone and any hope for redemption had passed.

they didn’t vote to spend $4 trillion/yr ... that’s soooo last year

they voted to insure 0bamacare gets implemented... which will be unfounded by AT LEAST $2 trillion

which, in short means... they voted for $6 trillion in spending (where we only bring in $2 trillion)

and yes, I’m very optimistic for the future... in that I’m certain what will happen. the results tho... won’t be pleasant

The election has left me very sad, in part because I believe the answer to your question is now "no."

Another problem that can’t be solved short of a civil war is that liberals & leftists hate conservatives more than life itself. Their hate is psychotic & they would side with Islam, China, anyone & everything before they would reach out to us.....their fellow countrymen. such is the place we find ourselves at.

I have been spending several hours each evening, trying to retrace my steps and find my way back through whatever mirror I walked through to get here. All we need now is Mr. Mxyzptlk to make an appearance, and this Mos-Eisley-Cantina clusterfluster will be complete.
