How Karl Rove, Inc. wasted conservative donors’ $300 million
World Tribune ^ | 11/15/12 | Larry Ward & Carter Clews

Oddly enough, perhaps the biggest loser in last week’s Republican debacle wasn’t even on the ballot. He didn’t shake a single hand, nuzzle the napes of any newborn babes or promise eager voters pie in the sky or peace on Earth. His name was Karl Rove. And all he actually did was squander a staggering $300 million by backing candidates who turned winnable races into laughable routs, producing tepid ads transforming would-be zealots into couch potatoes and firmly establishing himself as the political world’s pre-eminent empty-suit analyst.

Perhaps even worse, he set himself up as the clearinghouse for wealthy conservative donors, hand-picking which candidates and super PACs to support and which to send away empty-handed. He convinced the GOP’s high-dollar donors that he alone was the “almighty architect” — the “Rovitect,” as it were — who could single-handedly end President Obama’s reign.

In so doing, he confirmed, as Bernie Madoff proved, that it is easy to con the wealthy 1 percent out of their fortunes if you claim to be an expert and create your own echo chamber.

$300,000,000 divided by 100,000,000 registered Republicans is $3 each, and multiply that by 2 (Romney campaign + Rove SuperPAC) for $6 each. If they had just given that money to the state parties and county party committees around the country for GOTV efforts, we’d be way ahead. In our county, that would be say $50,000. Imagine what a small county party could have done with that kind of money. Instead we raised $5,000 total on our own, and actually had to buy all our own Romney signs and bumper stickers and then hope to sell them and print our own voter lists (because the experts in Washington don’t believe in low-level campaigning).

Don’t get me started - Romney ripped me off. I ordered two yard signs - 2 bumper stickers

Guess what came and what didnt?

No refund nothing.

Never got the yard signs.

Romney was a scam artist like Rove too.

The GOP ran a SOCIAL LIBERAL as their candidate for president. What did they expect to happen?

"The Evangelicals will come along – where else are they going to go?"

-- Team Mittens campaign, 2012

The GOP-e banked everything on that simple, stupid gambit.

Now: they OWN it, and the results thereof.

If only they’d given the $300 mil to Rove to do his area of expertise - GOTV - rather than the ORCA mess...

Broadcast advertising isn’t in his wheelhouse.

I've never considered Rove anymore than an overweight wannabe....

Nope. He was a key factor is a whole lot of election wins. He's lived his life in the coldest of meritocracies. Great if you win, if you lose... well this is what it's like.

Get out the vote effort? For craps sake, Obobo said/did the following When asked when he thought life began, Obobo said"That question is above my pay scale".

Remember that?

"You didn't build that business!"

something like "all police are stupid"

"vote,VOTE,VOTE FOR REVENGE!"

Obobo got involved in the Travon Martin legal case...if I had a son, he would look like Travon".

Obobo signed an E.O. in favor of the illegals being allowed to stay and reside legally in USA if they are under 30 years of age! Remember THAT?

All the constant giving the finger to people, like during the debates in 2008.

Obobo said something like" conservatives are idiots that just want to cling to their bibles and guns".

And on and on , I can't even remember them all right now.

There (ABOVE) is your GOTV incentive.

Palin did great this election, I wonder what she could have done with that money, besides giving us Ted Cruz over Dewhurst in Texas and Deb Fischer, replacing Ben Nelson in Nebraska, and of course the congressional seats.

Rove and his Establishment buddies are trying to use their money to force the GOP left. That’s why they wouldn’t give money to Akin or Mourdock (or O’Donnell or Angle or Miller.) And they keep losing. So of course, their prescription is more of same.

By persuading the candidates he bankrolled to run from conservative principles rather than on them, Mr. Rove thoroughly alienated evangelicals, Tea Party activists, a legion of young Ron Paulists and just about everyone else who might have provided GOP candidates a decisive edge had they been given even the slightest reason to go to the polls.”

Compassionate Conservatism means a kinder, gentler loss.

“Amazing how many FReepers used to rave about Rove. Then again, they did with Christie, then Rubio...then....”

Yes, indeed. The conservative and patriot future lies with state legislators. We gained another 5 states to give us 30 states that can be controlled by patriots, if conservatives take their ridiculous, myopic focus off national politics, they might - might - finally realize that they have a ton of political power in the states that can turn back the criminal fascist syndicate occupying Washington. I have my doubts. There’s a reason why republicans occupy the perennial stupid party.

If they have something then they need to put up or shut up. If Rove did something illegal—out him. Otherwise they are no better than the crooked BS they claim Rove was pulling.

Excellent article.

And after squandering millions of donors’ money on weak ads, he’s lecturing us on mass amnesty.

Hey, Karl—take your “compassionate conservatism” and shove it.

We’re tired of losers.

It's a truism from political science that leadership is an extreme version of the base. That means that the targeting of conservatives for defeat and liberals for victory was the plan all along.

Republican wealthy are social liberals who loath conservatives. That's who the Republican leadership must view as their true base. Not the ignorant religious rubes who won't see the enlightened state of their betters. Rove must have sold his donors a bill of goods that the conservatives could be reduced to plantation slaves happy to vote their masters bidding.
