Watched a short movie on The Crossing just a couple nights ago:

The drama is about George Washington crossing the Delaware River and the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War. The film opens with the retreat of the Continental Army across New Jersey after repeated losses and defeats during the campaign of 1776.

After the army narrowly escapes across the river to the Pennsylvania shore, Washington, realizing that something must be done or the Revolution will collapse, conceives a plan to cross the river and conduct a surprise attack on the Hessian garrison at Trenton.

Despite their own fatigue and the winter weather, Washington manages to lift his weary soldiers’ spirits, allowing the army to cross the river on Christmas night. The crossing is done in one night, allowing the troops to attack Trenton at eight o’ clock on December 26, 1776, and gains a stunning victory, capturing almost all the Hessians to their own advantage

I recently read a short summary of that battle and the awful weather they had to overcome that night. It was genius and against all odds.

Near the beginning of this Thon my little brother did some research and found that our 5th and 4th Great-Grandfathers were in the Maryland regiment in George Washington's army.
Part of the old line. They both survived the war.
I'm still stunned and very proud of them.

I know what you mean. I came across a passage regarding some of my ancestors on my mom’s side during the revolutionary war. They all fought in the revolution. “Every Morton big enough to carry a gun.”

I have found 3 ancestors in the Revolution, a father and son that weren’t in a standing army and a 3rd that was. I don’t know what the father and son did but they are listed by DAR. Actually all 3 are.

The Howard Richard Morton of 9th Missouri Infantry listed as a “Confederate Morton” on this page is my mother’s grandfather.

We also had Mortons listed as “Federal Soldiers from Arkansas & Missouri.”

Also on that page:

Over 60 Mortons were on a Revolutionary War list of Virginia - “every Morton large enough to carry a gun.”

“Our 4th great-grandpa Samuel Morton was one of them. He was a Minute Man in 1775,1776 and 1777.”

Mary Anna Custis Lee was the only surviving child of George Washington Parke Custis, George Washington's step-grandson and adopted son and founder of Arlington House, and Mary Lee Fitzhugh Custis, daughter of William Fitzhugh[2] and Ann Bolling Randolph Fitzhugh. Her godmother, Mary Randolph, the first person recorded buried at Arlington, wrote an early book on housekeeping and cooking. Lee's birth year is usually given as 1808, but it appears in the Custis family Bible and in records kept by her mother as 1807, and is also referred to in a letter her mother wrote in the autumn of 1807.

It's amazing that two Snow White movies ("Snow White and the Huntsman" was last month) would be released so close to each other, isn't it. This one started out poorly but got much better as the old Grimm's fairy tale unfolded with some interesting changes from the "Huntsman" version and some costume colors as an homage to the Disney cartoon. I do believe that this one was closer to the original tale. Ultimately, we enjoyed it immensely and gave it   ★★★★

Two investigative journalists infiltrate a cult to secretly film an exposé of its strange goings on. Its leader is a woman who claims to be from 2054, having been born in 2030. It was a bit of a confused mess and it left a lot of dangling, unfinished plot devices, so drawing your own conclusions is a major part of figuring out what the heck happened. We gave it   ★★★

My earliest ancestor, de Bompasse, came over on the Fortune in 1621.

The next was Thomas Minor in 1629.

Some in 1738 on the St Andrew. They settled in Pennsylvania in time for the Indian Wars. Then he and his son were in the Revolution.

Some of my ancestors I've had trouble tracing even though I've been at it for 30 years.

One of de Bompasses descendants used to wander off. He finally never came back. His wife thought he went to live with the Indians. Haven't found any horse thieves yet.
