Texas gets failing grade on its gun laws

The San Francisco-based Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence has released a new report that examines gun laws and violence in all 50 states.

The report, titled “Gun Laws Matter 2012: Understanding the Link Between Weak Laws and Gun Violence,” looks at the relationship between state gun laws and gun violence — as well as assigning a grade to each state based on the strength or weakness of these laws.

Texas’ grade: F.

In fact, the Lone Star State was one of 21 states that received an F in the report.

The center takes issue with the fact that Texas does not require firearms dealers to obtain a state license; it does not allow local governments to regulate firearms; and it does not regulate the transfer or possession of assault weapons, 50 caliber rifles or large-capacity ammunition magazines.

Formerly known as the Legal Community Against Violence, the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence is a nonprofit organization. It was founded by Bay Area lawyers in 1993 — just days after an assault-weapon rampage at a law firm in San Francisco left 10 people dead, including the shooter. The workplace shooting also left six others injured.

The full report can be found here.

Texas joins the "elite" group of 21 states that the socialists who wish to disarm the citizens despise. What is not to like? I would like to see a bit more discrimination. Texas can do so much better. It is one of the few (7) states that bans the open carry of handguns. The concealed carry process is much more restrictive than necessary. Universities should not be allowed to deny constitutional rights. Texas can do a better job of making the socialists at the LCPGV even angrier than they usually are by nature. Arizona is in the truely elite group that does not require permits. Arizona has constitutional carry (4 states).

Good for Texas!

An “F” from these people is good, good thing.

So, does the gun-free zone of Chicago gives Illinois an ‘A’?

I wonder how they rate Illinois' gun laws, and how they correlate with the murder rate in Chicago.

The report, titled “Gun Laws Matter 2012: Understanding the Link Between Weak Laws and Gun Violence,” looks at the relationship between state gun laws and gun violence — as well as assigning a grade to each state based on the strength or weakness of these laws.

The rest of the story: The states receiving a grade of F from these asshats have the lowest per capita rates of gun violence and the states receiving a grade of A have the highest per capita rates of gun violence.

Let me guess. This group decides, on the basis of NO EVIDENCE which communities have more or less violence. Why am I not surprised it is just more grist for the Progressvie Civiian Disarmament Mill.

I looked at the report, Colorado can do worse (According to the LCPGV). I am glad my old home state of Indiana has an “F”. Of course the socialistic NE have high grades like NJ, NY, MD and MA. I am surprised IL is not an A especially with their brown shirt laws like no CCW and FOID.

The insane asylum called "California" - The land of fruits and nuts - trots out their "finest" who see themselves as remotely qualified to "grade" anyone, on anything, much less on guns.

People who grade other people, or states, should have at lease a modicum of qualifications and experience to engage in their foolish quest.

The ultimate realism is, these anti-gun groups ONLY want to disarm the honest, hard-working people...they make no attempt to solve the problem of armed bad guys.

When the people are disarmed, and the crooks and authorites remain armed, it means one thing, and one thing only...totalitarianism. You cater to their whims, or you die...period.

We've seen this happen in other countries time and time again, but the one thing that we do know for sure, liberals never learn, and never will.

The 2nd Amendment is the only Amendment that keeps all the other Amendments intact, remove it and the Constitution falls.

Another reason why Texas should secede. If states continue to let liberalism and Washington dictate the rules for everyone else, it won’t take that long for Texas to ban the death penalty, support gay marriage, lock up all the guns, etc. simply because some federal magistrate will demand it.

I see that West Virginia has the great honour to earn an "F for Freedom" grade, while east Virginia must suffer the humiliation of a "D for Didn't make it" grade.

Get with the program, Virginia!
