Gaza rocket hits area south of Tel Aviv for first time

A rocket from the Gaza Strip exploded in an open field outside of Rishon Lezion on Thursday evening, marking the first hit in the center of the country in renewed violence from the Gaza Strip. The rocket, one of over 240 fired from Gaza into the South since the IDF launched Operation Pillar of Defense Wednesday to root out the terror infrastructure in the coastal territory, landed less than 15 km south of Tel Aviv. The operation began with the Wednesday afternoon targeted killing of Ahmed Jabari, the chief of Hamas's military wing.

The IDF Spokesman's Office stated the Iron Dome rocket defense system has successfully intercepted more than 80 rockets since the operation began.

A separate IDF spokesman confirmed that all Palestinian terror factions took part in rocket fire overnight Wednesday, with Hamas trying to take the lead.

He added that the IDF "believes the rocket fire will intensify." Tank fire also was directed at terror targets, he said.

Since beginning its operation, the IDF has struck nearly 200 Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza, including several terrorist cells preparing to fire rockets at Israel and medium-range rocket launchers located across the Strip.

Palestinian sources said that 15 people were killed in Gaza as a result of the IAF strikes, with more than a hundred suffering injuries.

The spokesman concluded by describing the Hamas-ruled Strip as "a forward Iranian base," and urged the populace to remain steadfast, as "home front resilience is vital for the continuing operation."

I wish someone would explain to me so I could understand it why Israel supplies water and electricity to Gaza. Why not cut it off when things get hot?

The UN has scheduled an emergency session concerning Israel’s attacks on terrorists launching rockets from Gaza. Israel has suffered over a 1000 rocket attacks this year and the UN does not say a damn thing or do a damn thing.

F-— the UN and its tacit support of terrorist!

If I were Israel, I would lay down a mine field on the border, cut off the water, cut off the electricity and target any rocket launch point with a 500 lb GPS guided gravity bomb, they are cheap and accurate. Tell the people of Gaza to stay far away from terrorists as everyone around them will die. Tell the people of Gaza to "have a good day and call the UN if they need something."

I don’t get why Israel does not crater any and all rocket launch points.

I’m watching some British dweeb livestream from Gaza and just heard what he called a “Resistance Rocket” launch from less than a block away. I would have expected the broadcast to go to raster by now.

1) Un-aimed rockets are just stupid.

Of course they hit nothing. Most of the world’s surface doesn’t have humans on it at any given time.

These Muslims are of course 0bama supporters because “How I Feel” trumps anything like effectiveness. Israel should (and hopefully will) reply with effective counter fire. I’d say that would teach the Muzzies a lesson, except they are obviously immune to lessons. Witness 100+ years of utter stupidity since the Ottoman Empire fell.

2) Un-aimed rockets are a violation of the Geneva Convention.

Military action is supposed to have a military target. Otherwise, civilian casualties are likely (in this case they are the objective) which is a violation. All of Hamas are WAR CRIMINALS.

They’re saying it’s the first time sirens have gone off in Tel Aviv since the 1991 Gulf War.

I have a feeling this war won’t just be limited to Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

How long before Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran join in?

Oh my. I hadn’t heard.

May they rest in peace and their families be consoled by Hashem.

And Israel should level Gaza. If there are refugees, let the U.N. Security Council (holding hearings on Israel today) pick them up in a boat.

The muzzies set up a rocket launch site in a vacant lot, leave it, and remotely launch.

Launch sites are irrelevant.

500 pound Israeli bombs on Hamas infrastructure for each terrorist rocket would be a friendly reminder.

Start with water facilities.

Israel is doing a really smart thing here.

Immediately after their sworn enemy has been re-elected (0bambi), they know they are totally alone.

Yet the Arab world is aflame and disunited.

So, Israel takes their nearest and daily causus belli from their weakest opponent (Hamas), and takes out the trash. I look for Bibi to focus on Hamas until they are a completely wasted rump of no value to anyone. Who cares about Hamas? Nobody, really.

Then, when Hamas is all done and wrapped up, Bibi moves on to his next causus belli and will find the reason Hezbollah needs a good whipping. They are particularly vulnerable since Assad is otherwise occupied with his civil war. I predict Bibi will take out the trash in Southern Lebanon after a decent interval.

The West Bank seems largely controllable with that excellent fence, so no action is probably required.

Next up are the big ones: Egypt and Iran.

Egypt may in the interim give Israel a reason to take them out. I hope not. Israel needs to focus on taking out the Iranian regime. I don’t suppose I know how, but that’s where their focus has to go next. And, they’ll have to do it without us.

Helpfully, 0bama doesn’t have bases in Iraq to intercept their overflights to Tehran.

With missiles reaching the Tel Aviv area I think this will escalate quickly. Hitting Tel Aviv is crossing a red line IMO.

I hope your family stays safe.
