Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with cost of legislation
The Daily Mail ^ | 9/15/12 | James Nye

President Obama's election victory ensured his Affordable Care Act would remain the centerpiece of his first term in power - but that has left some business owners baulking at the extra cost Obamcare will bring. Florida based restaurant boss John Metz, who runs approximately 40 Denny's and owns the Hurricane Grill & Wings franchise has decided to offset that by adding a five percent surcharge to customers' bills and will reduce his employees' hours. With Obamacare due to be fully implemented in January 2014, Metz has justified his move by claiming it is 'the only alternative. I've got to pass on the cost to the customer.' The fast-food business owner is set to hold meetings at his restaurants in December where he will tell employees, 'that because of Obamacare, we are going to be cutting front-of-the-house employees to under 30 hours, effective immediately.'

Given the history of litigation against Denny's, all I can say to them about this action is:

Gas stations should be doing the same thing with the per gallon tax to the gummint.

I believe they've passed a law specifically prohibiting them from doing so. Who knows, same think may be in that 2700 page Obamacare bill.

That’s truly Obama’s legacy: the wholesale destruction of this planet’s only high-class healthcare provider. I’ve come to grips with the fact that I’ll likely die 10-15 years earlier than I’d previously thought.

The people are so dumbed down now that it may never be possible to vote out the leeches and parasites. They have no concept of personal freedom and liberty. They think the government can just print all the money it needs. They think that the purpose of government is to giveaway free stuff, not even considering that someone has to pay for that stuff.

This is all in Alinsky’s Rules for radicals................

I offhandedly commented to a liberal coworker one day that corporations don’t pay taxes, and you should have seen his head spin. Taxes are an expense rolled up into the cost of whatever product that business produces. The only entity that pays taxes are end users, you and me. He walked off, never sure that I got through to him.

Just so long as the print at the top of each menu page announcing it is as big as yours. Otherwise I despise surcharges which should be in the price of an item or service like fuel surcharges, plate charges, mandatory tipping and everything the airlines do.

They should make it 10%...10% surcharge on everything...cable, theaters, sporting events, liquor stores, video games and rentals...the sky’s the limit!

If Ayn Rand is right (and she has been prophetic so far) the gummint needs to pass a law preventing businesses from raising prices and from laying off employees. Incredible!

“add it to the bill where these scumbags can see it”.

Excellent plan.

Clearly labeled line item on the receipt - “OBAMACARE SURCHARGE”.

Of course the customers paying with Obama welfare or EBT cards won’t care.

I can’t recall the name of it but in the 90’s Denny’s had a grilled sandwich with green chiles that was absolutely yummy delicious. They took it off the menu and I wasn’t much interested in Denny’s after that.

If you've ever been to Dennys, you know that by far, the majority of employees are obamatrons.

Pull up your pants; your rear-end is showing.

I'm gravely disturbed at what I sense is this "war on hourly workers" attitude as if they're the only ones who voted Obama and deserve to suffer.

Sorry but those upper middle class yuppies made it happen. Those hourly workers weren't filling Obama's campaign coffers. They weren't at his fundraisers.

The phrase “0bama voters are lazy thieves” needs to become the theme when discussing the 2012 election.

If they had voted against their own best interest, Romney would have won by a landslide.....

Voting for a socialist is not in my best interest; Romney is a socialist; therefore, voting for Romney is not in my interest.

Amen to that! It’s about time Republicans stopped being wishy-washy and went on the attack. Liberals love to accuse conservatives of being mean, and, for some reason, that makes Republicans go weak-kneed and try to appease them. That doesn’t work!

Reagan wasn’t a weenie! Time to tell the truth and go on the offensive! Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? (Don’t stop me, I’m on a roll.)

I’m afraid you are right. People complain at first when the government oversteps its bounds, but after a while, they become complacent. People objected to the awful low-flush toilets and appliances that don’t work and cost a fortune, but now we all accept it. Same as the intrusive searches by the TSA and snooping on us by government. Now, we all just go along with it. Sad, but true.
