Petraeus replacement to testify CIA never requested military assistance in Benghazi (hhmmm)
Hot Air ^ | November 15, 2012 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 11/15/2012 6:11:48 AM PST by SE Mom

...When the CIA’s acting director, Michael Morell, testifies Thursday before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, he is expected to say that the agency never requested Europe-based special operations teams, specialized Marine platoons, or armed drones on the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, Libya, according to a senior U.S. intelligence official...

...That differs from what Fox News reported almost three weeks ago, and which has gone virtually unchallenged in the vacuum of official explanations about Benghazi since. Jennifer Griffin reported on October 26th, citing sources that were actually “on the ground” in Benghazi during the attack, that the CIA contingent repeatedly requested assistance — but were told to “stand down” twice by officials in the CIA chain of command...

Ok- so here we have two stories in TOTAL conflict with one another.

So...did Jennifer Griffin's sources lie to her?

Orrr...is Morell lying to Congress? Will he testify under oath today?

The CIA has alll sorts of mgt. levels. Who knows at what level the requests stopped being sent up the chain.

Besides the bldg/compound under attack nominally belonged to the State Dept. It could easily be the case that it was the State Dept op that requested assistance, leaving the CIA off the hook.

The real question is what ops were being undertaken in Ben Ghazi and who set them in motion?

It [the “testimony”] does what it is supposed to. It gets obama off the hook.

Well, Joe Wilson was right. All this Administration does is lie. And they get away with it. So they just keep lying. Why not?

All of these communications would have been recorded. I expect that the incriminating portions have already been expunged. As for whether there were specific requests for assistance, being told “we’re under attack by a well armed and sizeable force” is more than sufficient to warrant a response from CIA headquarters. How could they not have asked the most basic questions of their people at the Annex: What is the current situation? Are you holding your perimeter? Have their been any casualties? What weapons do you have? What weapons do the enemy have? DO YOU REQUIRE ASSISTANCE? We are being asked to believe that the Director of the CIA, an experienced military commander, didn’t do anything because people under attack didn’t ask???

Michael Morell

Now the acting director, Morell served as deputy CIA director to Petraeus since 2010. He has been the agency’s director of Asian Pacific and Latin American Analysis and the briefer of presidents on national security matters.

In that position, according to a White House aide, Morell often briefed Obama as the United States closed in on Osama bin Laden, earning the president’s trust and developing a close relationship with him.

Morell is “extraordinarily well respected in the White House, across the intelligence community and throughout the national security establishment,” the aide said, discussing the deputy’s elevation to acting director.

The smartest thing Petraeus did was to form a partnership early on with Michael Morell, who was acting director before his arrival and resumed that role Friday. Morell is a career analyst and veteran of the mill that produces the famous “PDB,” or president’s daily brief, and he knew the agency’s culture — or at least the analysts’ version of it. His task was to encourage Petraeus when his commander’s instincts made sense for the agency, and dissuade him when his ideas were counter-productive.

When you don’t have a free press, like the US now, the government can say and do pretty much whatever it wants. At least the USSR had the ‘at that time’ free Western press trying to set the record straight. In 2012, however, we don’t have much in the way of truth seekers to protect us from the politburo.

Are we to believe that an American embassy under attack has to REQUEST help?

A couple weeks ago a former special operator called into a talk show to explain to the host how it works when an embassy or consulate is under attack. Immediately after the first shots were fired, a communications specialist (likely Sean Smith) fired off numerous secure communications to a post in DC that reports directly to the President. Those secure communications would've outlined that the embassy was under attack and needed immediate assistance. That communication would've been handed to the President directly. That communications specialist cannot hand the communication to anyone except the president, so Obama knew. He knew, he had to make a call, and he did not.

4 men died as a result.

There’s no conflict.

The CIA people on site requested military assistance and their CIA bosses didn’t.

...Because Obama didn’t give them Cross Border Authority.

`Read them,’ said the King.

The White Rabbit put on his spectacles. `Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?’ he asked.

`Begin at the beginning,’ the King said gravely, `and go on till you come to the end: then stop.’

These were the verses the White Rabbit read:—

`They told me you had been to her,
And mentioned me to him:
She gave me a good character,
But said I could not swim.

He sent them word I had not gone
(We know it to be true):
If she should push the matter on,
What would become of you?

I gave her one, they gave him two,
You gave us three or more;
They all returned from him to you,
Though they were mine before.

If I or she should chance to be
Involved in this affair,
He trusts to you to set them free,
Exactly as we were.

My notion was that you had been
(Before she had this fit)
An obstacle that came between
Him, and ourselves, and it.

Don’t let him know she liked them best,
For this must ever be
A secret, kept from all the rest,
Between yourself and me.’

`That’s the most important piece of evidence we’ve heard yet,’ said the King, rubbing his hands; `so now let the jury—’

All of the statements about this thing from the very beginning have been cast in the Bill Clinton mode: “It depends on what the meaning of “is” is.”

They are trying to keep it to some level where they feel they can defend themselves as being correct on a technicality and are answering solely based on their parsing of the question, not what the questioner really wanted to know.

Of course the problem is- there is NO ONE we can actually trust. It’s possible that Griffin’s source was not telling the truth- or that it was a cover story THEY were making up.

It’s hard to believe that NO requests for help were requested. I seem to remember audio tapes while it was going on that asked for help..

IIR, there were some rather horrific sounding tapes of the three SEAL/CIA-types screaming for help. Hope someone saved those because that is all we have to contradict the lies. Thank you, General Can't-Keep-My-Pants-On for taking what ever hope for justice there was and squashing it.
