A Labor Department official on Thursday said claims surged in the eastern parts of the country that laid in the path of the storm....

Jobless claims SURGE — Reuters blames Sandy

==

The BS section of BLS can go on vacation, because they don’t have to manipulate the numbers, now that Obama is safe because of the election.

UE can go to 10% or more and Obama can go to the golf course.

Broom Hilda Solis is a full blown Communist, drag here A$$ to Capitol Hill and let her try to explain the bogus 8.1 to 7.8 unemployment drop and the artificially low weekly job numbers in the lead up to the election.

So the stock market tanking is due to the fiscal cliff. And the unemployment claims skyrocketing is blamed on Sandy.

Nothing to do with Obama being re-elected.

Right.

Like that old saying goes, “You can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time.” In today's America we have a lot, perhaps even a majority of the population, that can be fooled all of the time. Anybody that suggested the labor department might be fudging the numbers pre-election to help Obama and the numbers would shoot back up right after the election was mocked....well here we are...

“In today’s America we have a lot, perhaps even a majority of the population, that can be fooled all of the time.”

In today’s America we have a lot of people motivated by hate, resentment, and entitlement. It’s that simple. If someone campaigned with the specific message that they were going to ‘stick it to those uppity people who live in the suburbs’, they would automatically receive at least 25-30% of the vote, if not more. What does that tell you about where we are as a nation?

Everything is unfolding exactly as the communists planned. Remember they also sat on a 400k monthly jump in food stamps until just after election day. They will stress the system until it collapses, then the final phase of the communist revolution will be ushered in, violently and quickly.

“”They were lying to protect Obama before the election.””

No doubt they’ve been fudging the numbers the whole time -working backwards to achieve the figures to make it look good.

Now they can explain to us how people got out to file unemployment claims in the storm areas when they didn’t have gas for cars or any other mode of transportation out of the area. Nor telephones to file a claim, nor computers to file online if it’s allowed. Unemployment offices were up and running and weren’t affected by the storm? Workers had no problem getting into their jobs at the unemployment offices?

We’re expected to swallow an awful lot from these creeps. It’s really too bad we’re not as dumb as the people who voted to keep this creep in office.

From pulled dup. thread

“Of course, it has nothing to do with the thousands of layoffs that were announced after the election”

There is a week waiting period (or is it two weeks?) for 1st time claims, todays number may not even have the lay-offs factored yet. Next week could get real ugly.

It’s possible that the storm had some impact; it’s also possible all the layoffs after the Obama reelection had an impact.

Two perfect jobless storms.

I doubt they’ll put that in the headlines

People are not fired because of a storm. This is simply the effect of reelecting a Marxist with nothing to lose. Now it’s Obamas job to make people so miserable that they will agree with giving up their rights for relief. The Alinski model...

then the final phase of the communist revolution will be ushered in, violently and quickly.

IMO, that's the flaw in the plan. If they think they can muster a layabout army, they're as stupid as college professors.

We will revert to the state of nature; people freely buying and selling; the free market.

The layabout army will loot until they run into some 2nd Amendment supporters.

Most of the lay-offs (terminations really as lay-offs imply a return to the same job) that we've been reading about are only PLANNED. It is not until those folks are actually terminated AND finish collecting any severance benefits that they can claim UE benefits.

Someone help me ... if a government office closes for a storm ... how does that make unemployment go up?

Around here, if the government shuts down for a couple of days we have government employees getting vacation without having to claim it.

When has the government ever laid someone off just because there was no work?

“Prior period adjustment” is a well used phrase in accounting and statistical work. I expect that is the phrase that should actually be used to explaine this sharp inrcrease in unemployment claims, indicating an understatement of claims in prior periods.

An honest mistake, of course.
