Budget Talks: If President Obama wants to get a deficit deal done to avoid the fiscal cliff, his biggest challenge won't be Republicans, but his own hard-core left-wing supporters.
Two days after the election, Obama's favorite economist, Paul Krugman, set the tone for the intransigent left in a column titled: "Let's not make a deal." Boiled down, his advice to Obama was this: Don't give in to any Republican demands, even if doing so would "inflict damage on a still-shaky economy." After all, Obama would be better positioned to "weather any blowback from economic troubles."
Krugman's advice may be disturbingly cold and calculating, but he has plenty of company on the left.
Robert Kuttner, co-founder of the liberal American Prospect magazine, suggests Obama should just sit it out, let all the Bush tax cuts expire, the automatic spending cuts kick in and expect public pressure to force Republicans to give in entirely.
The left-wing Daily Kos called any kind of "grand bargain" between Obama and the GOP a "Great Betrayal."
And several Democratic lawmakers have suggested that the correct approach would be to let the country go over the fiscal cliff, since that will only strengthen Obama's position. "It's a hand Democrats are looking forward to playing," according to the liberal Huffington Post "news" site.
And Republicans are supposed to be the ones who refuse to compromise?
What has liberals freaked out is the fact that any deal with Republicans will likely include cuts to their cherished entitlement programs.

Raising taxes is a stupid idea, does anyone really think taxes are too low? Aren’t we the highest taxed country on Earth?
Spending MUST be cut.
Then again the numbers thrown out are so small that they’d hardly affect the deficits Obama has given us. This shows how unserious anyone in DC is about getting the US fiscal house in order.
Just the opening proposals should give investors and markets the shakes.

Lets get this right. It is Obama who is adamant. He will not stop spending and is asking for even more taxes so he can spend more. He has to be stopped (from spending).
Of course the left has the luxury of being intransigent, knowing the GOP will get the blame for the consequences, while Obama gets the praise for avoiding the fiscal crash.
It`s a no-win for the Repubs anyway, so they should simply let all the tax cuts expire and let the chips fall where they may. No more half-assed half-measures. Americans need to feel the brunt of their stupid electoral choices.
The House and Boehner should pull a Harry Ried. He hasn’t brought bills that the house has passed to his floor to vote on so the house should just ignore everything financially and work only on the insignificant things like a name for a postoffice. Tell Senate and Harry Reid until they take action on the bills sent to them, they will not bring any new bills for them to consider.
The MAIN thing Boehner should have done -
On Wed AM when BO started this ‘attack’ on the R’s in Congress the comeback should have been “Mr. President, WE want to pass a workable budget. I understand that you have submitted budgets in the past which, for some reason never made it out of the Senate.
We would be happy to work with you. Have the Senate send us the ‘approved’ budget you submit and we can sit down and work on it”.
“BTW, the same Senate that voted you down with NARY a YEA vote FOR your proposed Budgets, has tabled ANYTHING we have sent up and, in fact, the Leader had vowed before the election to NOT work with us were we successful”.
That should be the message given the American people on a daily basis....Why we may even win over 1 a day....HA....
Got to pull a Reagan with the several wheelbarrows full of paper brought up before his State of the Union address and saying “Ladies and Gentleman, I thought we would have a budget signing today BUT I received this preliminary paper work for last years budget just this morning”.
Worked for Reagan, should work for anyone with a lick of sense and a backbone.
Granted while Reagan didn’t have an ‘enthusiastic’ press it at least didn’t openly act downright hateful.
Unfortunately, the Reps are not doing a good job of explaining why they don't want the taxes of the "rich" to be raised. Obama says it will only affect 3% of small businesses, but as Romney pointed out during the debates, these 3% create more than half of the jobs.
And the GOP has failed to link the impact of Obamacare on small business in tandem with raising the taxes for the "rich." Again, the Dems have framed the argument and he who frames the argument usually wins it. The majority of the public wants taxes raised on the "rich." If the Reps cause us to go over the fiscal cliff, the Dems will use this on the Reps in the midterms and perhaps, retake the House in 2014.
Assuming Boehner and enough Reps cave on this tax increase to get it passed in the House, there must be an important concession by Obama to placate an irate GOP base. I don't think Boehner has the cajones to do that. The GOP political leadership is poised to give away the store. Obamacare is the law of the land. We need comprehensive immigration reform to legalize the 12 to 20 million lawbreakers in this country and to allow them thru family reunification, i.e., chain migration, to sponsor 66 million more of their relatives to enter this country legally.
As usual what will happen is that Obama will refuse to negotiate, triggering the automatic cuts, etc., and then blame the Republicans for so doing.
The obedient Democrat Media will pick-up on the Democrat lies that it’s all the Republicans fault for being “intransigent” and “not negotiating”.
Same old shit, different day.

By allowing the 2003 Bush tax cuts to retire, taxes will be increasing the bottom rate from 10% to 15% and the 20% bracket to 25%.
Raising the 10% bracket to 15% represents what percentage of increase? (Hint: The correct answer is NOT 5%)
To those moving from the 10% bracket to 15%, their taxes will be increased by 50%!!

Obama will win the propaganda battle for the reasons you indicate. The Reps cannot allow the tax rates to increase on most of the American people.
And then there is also the battle to extend the 2% payroll tax holiday and unemploymnent payments. Everyone loves Santa Claus.

What I am making reference to is the Senate rejected BO’s ‘budget’ in 2012 by 99-0, after the House had rejected it 414-0.
Prior to the election Reid announced he would be ‘unable to work’ with a President Romney.
‘They’ are going to try and railroad the R’s into being the sole cause of this no budget fiasco
....It is up to OUR leadership(?) to keep the FACTS open, not take the GHWB stance of
‘The American people are too smart to believe this propaganda’ - which turns out he was wrong...
