ALEXANDRIA -- Defeated Republican U.S.Senate candidate George Allen said Monday he will not seek elective office again.

"I'm grateful for the support, generosity and the votes of over 1.7 million people, but I have no intention of running for office again,'' Allen said during a 45-minute interview in his Alexandria office.

Can some Virginia Freepers clue me in as to why Allen can’t win an election up there any more? I have some theories, but I need some Virginia perspective...

Good. He never should have run in the first place.

I’m sorry, but the guy just does’t sound too bright or exciting on the radio or TV.

He may be EXTREMELY bright but he just comes off ‘slow’.

That’s my and my GF’s opinion.

put it this way, he sounds like he gets his talking points from Sean Hannity - only slower.

No depth.

I’ve heard through the grapevine (including Republicans) that as a person he’s an a-hole.

His ads were pretty bad and unsophisticated.

Completely hopeless in Northern Virginia as a candidate.

OUCH! Too bad. I’m only somewhat familiar with him, and hate to hear that.

His dad was not slow!

Thanks for insight. I knew Northern Va was a problem. Ironic, aint’ it? The Robert E Lee army? The Army of Northern Virginia.

Thinks do change....

I’m in VA...

1) the liberal cockroaches that occupy Fairfax County and most of Northern Virginia

2) Allen stopped running as a conservative and went the moderate route

3) His opponent Tim Kaine (or Tom K., as Biden announced him), did not advertise his Democrat party affiliation and made all kinds of wild claims like Obama about accomplishments when he served as governor

4) Allen’s “mucaca” slur from years ago — it wasn’t advertised this time around, but it really was the end of his political career

poor guy. perhaps the romney boat anchor effect didn’t help him.

but it does suggest a new rule for conservatives picking between conservative candidates, say in a primary.

if a candidate who has previously lost in the same district or state is opposed by a conservative who hasn’t lost, prefer the conservative who *hasn’t lost.* in this case the new guy is probably a better choice.

That - which was(is) just plain stupidity and the fact he tried to portray Jim Webb as a likeness of John F’n Kerry.

Two very bad moves when all he had to do was kiss babies and raise money, keep his speeches short, to the point and generic and he was a ‘shoo-in’ back in ‘06.

This time it surprised me how bad he ‘whupped’ his R’ opponents and I thought (not really) that I may have been wrong about him. I really don’t/didn’t like Kaine so I reluctantly pushed the button for Allen....oh well...

Many immigrants in NoVa remember “Macaca” and voted against him.
