Welcome to the Rand Paul evolution
Politico ^ | 11/13/12 | MANU RAJU

In an interview with POLITICO, Paul said he’ll return to Congress this week pushing measures long avoided by his party. He wants to work with liberal Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy and Republicans to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for pot possession. He wants to carve a compromise immigration plan with an “eventual path” to citizenship for illegal immigrants, a proposal he believes could be palatable to conservatives. And he believes his ideas — along with pushing for less U.S. military intervention in conflicts overseas — could help the GOP broaden its tent and appeal to crucial voting blocs that handed Democrats big wins in the West Coast, the Northeast and along the Great Lakes.

Hey, conservatives! Still like the new evolved Rand Paul?

Who cares about the rule of law? Surely not Senator Paul.

Hell at this rate I figure Mitch McConnell will come out next week talking about legalizing homosexual bigamy. The GOP is in free fall.

Great idea, Rand.

Go to freaking Hard Left “Politico” to give an interview that is critical of the GOP.

Do Democrats call up “National Review” and give critical interviews about their party?

God, our leadership is so ignorant.

Bobby Jindal did exactly the same thing today, unloaded on the GOP to...can you guess...Politico!

And these are the guys who WON their elections!

There is nothing wrong with our present immigration laws, except that they are not enforeced. Granting amnesty is definitely the wrong thing to do.

Hey Paul - deal with voter fraud - start walking the talk or STHU! Conservative Allen West is SOLO in FL fighting - and the GOP has a great plan that conservatives will like.LOL!!

GO TO FLORIDA en mass and raise a stink!! What idiot would ever vote or support a GOP candidate again - when push comes to shove, they cave. So, IMO, it was all a big show to make sure the anti-American was elected! Prove me wrong.

With all due respect, Jim, he's tried that, too. From farther down in the article.

Paul hasn’t given up on the tea party agenda; he plans to lead what he says is a national movement to help usher through a constitutional amendment limiting House members and senators to 12 years of service to “throw some of the bums out just for length of service.”

But after his first two years in elected office, few, if any of Paul’s goals on his 2010 tea party platform have gone anywhere. He wanted to force lawmakers to wait one day for every 20 pages of a bill before a vote can occur — that never saw the light of day. He wanted to make sure every bill explicitly lays out its constitutional authority — that proposal is gathering dust. Often, he finds himself on the losing end of his own party — most notably on his recent push to slash foreign aid that failed resoundingly 10-81 over fears it would have weakened national security.

Paul's a mixed bag to be sure, but he's not ignoring the big issues. In fact, he's the only one addressing a lot of them. And, no, I'm not a "Paul-bot."

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!! "Paul said the “trade-off” would be “not to accept any new legal immigrants while we’re assimilating the ones who are here.” Asked if he is concerned about the ripple effect that could cause around the world, Paul said the details over which countries would be affected are still in the works. SO the people trying to enter the USA legally will be forced to the back of the line to accommodate the illegals? Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1112/83737_Page2.html#ixzz2C9O93ACW

It’s absolutely foolish for the GOP to think that if they pander, but just don’t do it to quite the level that the Democrats do, that they will somehow curry favor with the dependent class. The stupid half of the country doesn’t want to be half taken care of, they want ALL the freebies and only the Democrats offer that.

This has been proven time after time as the Karl Roves of the world urge the GOP to run more “moderate” (read: liberal) candidates, who then proceed to get their butts kicked by 100% pure liberal dem candidates. Republicans must offer a REAL alternative who makes clear distinctions between himself and the dem of the day. “Liberal lite” only gets us beaten.

The way to approach this is by acknowledging the desires of the dependent class (because let’s face it, they’re not giving up their selfishness) and crafting our message to offer a more appealing alternative to welfare and food stamps. We need to turn their self-interest in our favor by making achievement and the desire to be “rich”, however one defines it, appealing and “cool.”

I know that’s a very tall order, but I think there are enough people who are basically good, but just don’t understand what conservatives are offering, that we can peel some of them away from the dem plantation. We just need to find a way to reassure them that we understand their needs and fears and that we have a much better way to satisfy them in the long run. Not easy for sure as most in the dependent class will not be receptive, but it must be done if we’re to have any chance at all.

The tea party candidates should sign a promise on TV that if they do not keep their word to the supporters, they will quit so another liberty loving candidate can replace them.

Neither party will kick out the crybaby welfare state illegals. They MUST not cave in and grant them citizenship without going through the legal process. The military person should be given first legal process to citizenship. If they fast-track the illegals, it will bring in so much more fraud, the US government will not be able to keep up. A great message-Hey, USA is allowing illegals, bring and send your criminals this way. What a stupid and illegal plan.

Evolution? This is no evolution -Rand has always been a Libertarian. Maybe he got elected by pretending to be a bit more of a conservative -that's it.

Now he is going to give advice on how to get elected -this from a member of the irrelevant politically impotent Libertarian party?

Give me a break...

Well, he should forget about pushing the drugs, the sodomy and the aliens. That crap will not turnout the conservative base. Period. And it will not attract the leftists either because they’ll hang with the real godless socialist Marxists of the scummy free sex, free drugs, sodomy, open borders and free abortion party.

Paul is not “blending” his hard-line tea party roots with moderate ideas, he is simply acting like a real Libertarian. This author apparently is unaware of the species.
