Is Papa John's the Next Chick-fil-A?
GOP USA ^ | 11/13/2012 | Bobby Eberle

Posted on 11/13/2012 1:24:21 PM PST by IbJensen

It happened again. Another restaurant chain is under attack from the left. This time, it's Papa John's Pizza. What was so terrible that the liberal talkers are going bonkers? The CEO simply spoke the truth -- if Obamacare kicks in, there will likely be cuts to employee work hours in order to cover the new healthcare costs. Don't liberals realize that bigger government comes with consequences?

As reported by The Washington Times, John Schnatter, the CEO of Papa John's Pizza has come out swinging against Obamacare, and the liberals don't like it.

Recently, however, Papa John has come under fire for his comments about ObamaCare. ObamaCare is expected to hit Papa John's with recurring costs of $5-8 million per year. Schnatter has said that he intends to pass along the costs of ObamaCare to the consumer, as any normal business would. He mentioned that the total cost of ObamaCare will be an estimated 15 to 20 cents per order. "Unfortunately, I don't think people know what they're going to pay for this."

Most recently, he claimed that many of Papa John's franchises are considering cutting employees hours in order to pay for ObamaCare. Papa John is not alone in this. ObamaCare will require businesses large and small to pay extra costs for healthcare. Hundreds of other businesses have released similar statements about the law that kicks into effect soon. These businesses will not be able to hire or will have to fire employees as a result.

His observation of the costs of ObamaCare has been taken as a political statement. Many leftists have demanded that he pick up the costs of ObamaCare with his own hefty fortune, rather than building it into the cost of the pizza or cutting employees' hours.

It's amazing that those on the left have absolutely no comprehension of how business works. Just like regular corporate taxes or compliance costs due to extra regulations, costs forced on business by the government will be forwarded on to consumers or result in cost cutting measures elsewhere.

As left wing groups are calling for a Papa John's boycott, some conservatives are stepping forward to organize an "appreciation day" for the pizza chain. Here's a report from Fox News:

Daniel Wetter is just 16 years old, but his plan to support pizza chain Papa John's amid a backlash of liberal criticism is no pie-in-the-sky idea.

Wetter is part of an upstart group called Rebooting America that is proposing that Friday be a national day of appreciation for the pizza chain, whose chief executive officer is being attacked for saying employees' hours might be cut to cover the cost of implementing their health insurance under ObamaCare.

The conservative group has hatched a social media-based campaign that centers on encouraging people to buy a pizza pie at a Papa John's store, taking a photo of the outing and then posting it on a Facebook page or tweeting it.

Of course, the liberal talking points are that Schnatter and his corporation have enough money. They should pass it along. That's not the point. It is for no one to judge if a person has become "successful enough." The real point is that government is stepping in where it does not belong, and businesses will react accordingly.

Here is a law that the American people did not want. They had a chance to vote for change and didn't. And now, the effects will be driven home... into everyone's pocket book. Whether it's in the form of taxes or higher costs for goods and services, the lesson is the same: there is nothing that is free. Someone will always have to pay. Good for Papa John in speaking out!

“I don’t see much in common between the two. Chick-fil-A took a stand on moral principal, Pappa Johns on a financial one. I applaud both on their stand, but Chick-fil-A took theirs on an issue that was not tied to their revenue. I’ve enjoyed CFL for a long time and will continue to eat there. Papa J’s(even though I agree with their stance), is just run of the mill chain store pizza. I won’t boycott nor go there more often”

I think they have decent food for a decent price, and hubby likes me to bring one home some times, and we split one at the office sometimes for lunch.

I plan to eat there lots more often, just to annoy liberals.

Trying to make liberals deal with economic reality is probably comparable to a religious experience - just trying to chip away a little at the indoctrination they get at the government schools.

They will do as they always do pick a few token victims and try to terrorize them into submission. But your right the laws of physics & economic reality dictate this behavioral.

What really pisses the liberals off is that company’s are admitting to the effects of the costs upon them and their clientele.

Most of the time Government raises taxes or imposes a regulation almost nobody realizes that is why the prices for their goods & services have gone up.

Obama talks about forcing the rest of us to give up some of our share of the pie, a Marxist concept at its core but he has no idea that the pie is our product, we can’t give it up without ending up with less of it to go around all together.

It is an unfortunate failing of democracy, that people(who by nessity) are ignorant of most of the world’s system are as a result so easy fooled by leaders(politicians) into believing the most ridiculous things.

I wish i could tell you how to educate them but the sad truth is the left has largely taken over those aspect of our civilization for the last 50+ years.
They have in that capacities chosen to omit & demagogy the truth about economic freedom and business. We have been unsuccessful in stopping them. The result is economic freedom, and indeed all other freedom which is depended upon economic freedom will suffer a massive blow due to John Robert’s lawless “republic” inability to protect us from the ravages of democracy.

Yes that is right this problem of ignorance & greed is nothing new to democracy.

Our best hope now is that some of us might break off and form our own country in which we might preserve something of the couture and traditions of these united States. This land is probably lost to the murderous shifting passions & greed of democracy.

(as an aside...I got a call yesterday from a local semi-charity that I’ve given a few bucks to in the past...I listened politely and then said...Sorry...It’s “Obama Times”...Doubt Ill be donating to you for the next 4 years....I could tell the lady was taken aback....It was kinda fun actually)

That's what I'm doing as well. I'm composing a 'form letter' that I'm going to mail to all the regular charities we've supported over the years. I'm going to explain how we're just tapped out after four years of Obama (and the sky high cost of living in liberal Connecticut), and now we're looking at another four years of Obama hell. I'm done.

My husband and I are worried about our own survival now. The charities will have to fend for themselves (with a couple of exceptions).

Any charity that supports what I suspect are Obama voters are particularly "dead to me" now. That includes food pantries, etc.

If they don't, I'll betcha they will. If I can only buy one slice at a time, I WILL support any company that is being attacked by socialist oboma.

I agree with you take on not donating to anyone, anything associated with a oboma vote. The sad thing about food pantries is that senior citizens and others who are there through no fault of their own will suffer. And the illegals and generational welfare abusers will continue to receive through other means. The pantries are well organized and each person receives the same basic foodstuffs in quantity and by item. You either are served on a first come basis, stand in long lines in good and bad weather, or you are given a number, and then are called accordingly. What little they receive is of vital importance to those people who are citizens of this country and worked hard in their lives and are now in need of help..I would remember them and not deny the food pantry what little you can donate to them.

There is a rumor that the company I work for might cut back hours for enough employees to reduce the number of full timers to 49 or less.

If they cut me to 29 hours, I might volunteer to be cut to 20 hours, then apply for early Social Security to make up the difference in take home pay. That is the way the math works out for me.

I used to earn $60-80 an hour working my own business, before Obama. Now I’m forced to work an 8-5 job making way less than $20 an hour.

just do it and let everyone make their own conclusion as to why. Eventually most folks will connect the dots.

No ... sorry.

I quit believing that.

Half the population is below average.

Beyond that, most folks have been taught NOT to think. I spent a year teaching in public school, and became convinced that many of my 'colleagues' were deliberately teaching the kids NOT to think, NOT to employ logic, and NOT to concern themselves with the truth of what they considered 'facts'.

You’re right, however, Papa John’s is a target due strictly to obamanomics.

FEMA is such a useless bust, because the government that works best, is the government closest to the people.

Same with charities - a lot of churches minister to people they have screened, who they know really need the help, not just willy nilly throwing out bread crumbs where the sloths and parasites soak up a lot of it.

Maybe we should take a look at the charities and food pantries to see which ones do the best job of using the resources we give them.

Heifer Project gives people animals and training, with the agreement that they pass along the first female offspring, so when I give to them, they multiply it :)

Here's something most folks don't know: Comcast's NBC Universal unit has laid off 500 employees. Its cable channels, Jay Leno's late-night show and the Universal Pictures movie studio are among its sub-units affected.

This is 1.5% of the company's work force of 30,000 employees.

More cuts are expected at NBC News and cable channel which include USA, E! and Bravo.

The question is: Comcast's NBC acquisition is the most left-wing, anti-American media in the nation (think PMSNBC, Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz, for instance). This company is the darling of the Left. Soooooo....

WILL THE LEFTIST CRAZIES NOW BOYCOTT AND VILLIFY NBC LIKE THEY'RE NOW DOING TO PAPA JOHN'S PIZZA AND OTHER BUSINESSES WHO ARE BEING FORCED INTO LAYOFFS BECAUSE OF THE UNSUSTAINABLE COSTS OF OBAMACARE?

(Rhetorical question, of course).

I am not talking about FEMA.

I am talking about church-run food pantries, under the direction of church ministers and their volunteers, where records are kept on who comes in to their pantries and obtains food, and that they only come in on the appointed days allowed. And, like I’ve said, the senior citizens and those citizens who are in dire need of food because of unemployment, etc., will suffer unnecessarily if we don’t give what little we can to these food pantries. I’m not talking big time, government-controlled food pantries, I’m talking about neighborhood food pantries. The church-run pantries are well run...check them out yourself.

And the generational gime-gime moochers will always be there, and the illegals to a greater extent...the generational moochers have other outlets for free stuff, and the illegals to a lesser extent, because of language difficulties, transportation, etc. We can’t separate the citizens of the USA who are elderly and/or are in dire need of food assistance because of personal misfortune, from the generational welfare/food stamp moochers who live off this assistance as a way of life for years on end, and the illegals who pour over our borders, flood our hospitals, schools and drain our resources as a country...but at least we can narrow the field of supply by contributing to church-sponsored food pantries. I might add that the Communist Party of Illinois, in Chicago, is a big, big sponsor of illegals who populate the sanctuary city of Chicago...now THAT is a source of help we need to smash down...THAT is just the kind of leftist agency we must work to destroy in the eyes of the people by educating them as to WHO these people really are...the churches might also inform their flock as to who these organizations really are..too many people know nothing about sociaists, marxists, communists.

Rather we should be targeting those agencies that are government sponsored/supported and let this oboma government and those who support this oboma government feel the loss of our support.

We must care for ourselves, our families, our neighbors who are like-minded as we are about what kind of government we will support.

They will be forgotten in the wave of temp workers who are about to become “part-time temps”. My company is bracing for the prospect of having seperate groups of part-time temps working three days per week each while we are on a seven day schedule
