Ominous futures this morning. Are companies 'Going Galt'?
The Washington Times ^ | November 13, 2012 | Terry Ponick

Posted on 11/13/2012 11:45:35 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The futures don’t look so hot this morning before the opening bell. As of 8:50 a.m. EST, Dow futures are down nearly 70 points. S&P and NASDAQ futures look pretty much as bad, down nearly 9 and 20 points respectively.

While yesterday’s action seemed relatively benign, it wasn’t, as lots of sectors were getting hammered but, due to low semi-holiday volume, this wasn’t readily apparent. Our utilities got hit so hard we had to exit via percentage stops, and we’ll probably need to pare back what energy and banking issues we still have today.

The “fiscal cliff” again is the looming issue on the front burner. Euro-instability doesn’t help, either. But one other thing that’s begun to surface—after the election of course—is the inevitable resumption of the Democrats’ twin pincer movement on American businesses and employees. And those are, should you need a reminder, the Administration’s continuing War on Coal, in the context of its War on Fossil Fuels; and the looming effects of Obamacare on business bottom lines.

As we’ve already mentioned, utilities are getting smithereened, this in spite of spectacular yields. Prior to this, coal stocks took a beating. All this negative activity is tied in with the War on Coal, waged somewhat by proxy by EPA rulemaking regulators run amok. Although the once burning issue of “global warming” “climate change” has in our view been completely discredited by the academic world’s collective “email-gate,” the Warmists are proceeding ahead anyway toward a utopia where energy is produced by anything but fossil fuels at a cost nobody except the leftist utopian masters can afford...

0bama won by attacking businesses and job creators.

I took another 15% of my money out of equities.

I’m sitting this administration out. There will be no investment in the future under 0bama.

What a great analogy. Good catch. I'm stealing it.
BTW my dad didn't believe in that telling you not to do stuff. He said do it and see what happens. The new lawn mower’s muffler had bubbled paint as he had just finished running it the first time. I had never seen this before. “Hey is it hot?”, “touch it and see”. Wow it sure was hot and the blister on my finger reminded me to never do that again. Tough love. LOL

Let’s not get carried away with all this “tax the rich” talk. We need to take it easy on actors, singers and guys who bounce balls for a living - they’re the glue that holds American society together afterall.

If we penalize their contributions our humanity is at stake.

If they can game something as simple as “one man, one vote” they can certainly game a stock market that only 1 in 100 understands.

Nice analogy.. However.. I think it’s not quite right..

This Nation has just pulled the trigger while looking down the barrel.

There.. That fits better.

Of course they are.

Don't worry, they will be attacked soon, and nationalized.

Philips, Siemens, and GE are all scaling back on their innovation figuring that they can buy that innovation for less than what it would cost them to develop it on their own. Especially in the healthcare field.

No but they will suffer because of those who did.

Some will suffer earlier than others.

The takers will not suffer though. They will be provided for by printed money. Inflation means nothing to them since they have nothing to start with. They only live day to day.

It's time to punish the rich.

Only the rich that didn't support Baraq.

That is not true! In fact that's another complete fallacy hammered ad nauseum by the liberal, partisan media, and in all the demoRAT socialist talking points. In 2008 election, it was estimated that 70% of so-called millionaires & above (multi-millionaires, billionaires) supported 0bama over McCain. The percentage may have gone down somewhat in the 2012 election due to some high profile business CEOs coming out for Romney, but I would wager that most of the banking & investment brokerage high rollers stayed with 0bama. The demoRATs make no secret that if you're rich and you want any consideration at all from the demoRATs in government, then you better pay big bucks to play. DemoRATs are notorious for that.

Think of the multi-million high-roller demoRAT fund raisers by George Clooney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael Jordan, etc.)

Think of billionaires Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, all the hi-tech company CEOs & top management, Peter Lewis, Tim Gill, etc., etc.

The Republican party is by far & away, much more of a financial, middle class, grass roots party than the demoRAT party by a long shot. Only you will never see that in the media talking points.

Also read post #33 once again for a more expanded list of demoRAT fat cats.

I agree. It’s the only explanation for every democrat voting in lock step with obama and the republicans only pretending to fight. I’ve come to the conclusion there is not one honest and/or independent member of congress. And if they’re not speaking out, their dishonest.

Folks, Anybody who has ever reared a child knows how this works...you can tell your offspring 'til you're blue in the face

about how bad the consequences will be if he or she makes bad choices, but in the end the child always seems to have to learn it the hard way.

This nation has just touched the hot stove...

Genius illustration. Borrowed and resent...
