Piers Morgan asked a pretty good question of former CIA agent Robert Baer on his show last night, and Baer is just as perplexed as Morgan. David Petraeus suddenly resigned yesterday after the FBI discovered an extramarital affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell, but does the FBI routinely investigate the director of the CIA? Baer tells Morgan, “There is something going on here,” apart from the sexual peccadilloes. Or could it be as simple as the old adage that “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”?

No. The President is exempt from all security investigations and clearance procedures. Congress can investigate him, but no agency of the executive branch would dare, at least not since J Edgar Hoover went toes up.
I believe an embassy is US soil.
Now that is not Good at all!
Fair enough but two questions out of curiosity:
1) Wasn’t the property technically a consulate not an embassy? Are they subject to the same policies/diplomatic status?
2) What about the safe house, airplane hangar and other sites referenced in the narrative to date? It seems that once they left the embassy/consulate they were on Libyan soil, ‘safe’ houses notwithstanding.

I’m inclined to agree with you, for one simple reason:
There is far too much information being release too quickly for this to be the real scandal. It has all the movie-of-the-week aspects: espionage, sex, politics, and the military but it’s all too neat, too self-contained, too pat.
Media outlets uncovering this story have been left mostly alone by the Obama Character Assassination Machine. Rest assured if they start getting near the truth that Axelrod will be brought back to the TV cameras to start his smear campaign.

I think you’re right, and I can’t give you an intelligent answer. Good points. I’m not sure where to find those answers either.
Doesn't the CIA have its own security division that investigates potential security risks within the agency? I don't think it trusts the FBI to investigate what's on the lunch menu at Ben's Chili Bowl.
Don’t want to dampen excitement, but part of the FBI’s portfolio is counter-espionage. That might be a hint that there’s more to this than the public story, but not necessarily. Affairs and seductions are so common in real spy cases that one would hope it’s S.O.P. for the FBI to investigate alleged affairs involving CIA directors, to eliminate the possiblity.
