Is CBS Radio’s KPTK, Seattle the Next Progressive Talker to Flip? (lib meltdown)

Is CBS Radio’s KPTK, Seattle the Next Progressive Talker to Flip? Seattle-based blog Blatherwatch (cool name!) is reporting the WYD Media-produced Stephanie Miller talk show indicated on Monday’s broadcast that CBS Radio’s KPTK, Seattle would flip from progressive talk after the holidays. No report on what the station may become and the report has not been confirmed by CBS Radio. If this comes to pass, it would be the second West Coast progressive talk outlet to recently shuck the format as Clear Channel’s KPOJ, Portland did Monday (11/12). It’d also be the second progressive talk station that’s been in the format for a relatively long period of time – eight years for each station – and located in “progressive” cities, to change formats.

Liberals are in a major meltdown about this (KPOJ flip to
sports, and the Seattle station—owned by CBS not Clear Channel—is next). Obviously Romney is being blamed because of the whole Romney-Bain-Clear Channel connection, right? Despite people like me going on messageboards to explain, they still refuse to believe that:

—Sports is a hot format. Stations like this change formats to what is profitable. Radio is a business.

—Ratings for these stations are horrible and they are doing what is best for the companies etc. Of course the Telecom Act of 96, signed by Clinton, is how these eeeeeeeeeeevil companies can own multiple stations in the same market.

—The FCC is not in the format regulation business and attempts to get them to act, or Clear Channel to change its mind, won’t work.

—They believe in the Fairness Doctrine—even though it’s unconstitutional. Can a station be forced to change to something unpopular—liberal talk—and thus lose all kinds of money? There would be layoffs.

—There IS successful liberal talk and it’s taxpayer funded on powerful stations. It’s called NPR.

Evidently the Rethuglicans at Clear Channel are getting revenge because of the election results :)

One more:
—In Boston Clear Channel killed off its conservative talk station. Was that political?

more from TALKERS going back to yesterday:

>>Clear Channel Pulls the Plug on Progressive Talk KPOJ, Portland. The conspiracy theories from listeners and progressive talk fans are already pouring in – especially on the Portland-area blogs and mainstream media sites – but the notion that Clear Channel Media and Entertainment is flipping KPOJ to sports talk for political reasons and not because of business factors has no basis in reality.

According to a piece in the local Willamette Week blog site, KPOJ’s recent 12-plus ratings were around a 1.0 share compared to some of its spoken-word competitors (news/talk KEX and KXL posted a 3.5 share and 5.0 share, respectively). TALKERS is not privy at this time to how well Clear Channel was able to sell KPOJ but it should surprise few in the business that sports content has never been hotter from a consumption standpoint and political talk – whether conservative or progressive – is, from a sales perspective, controversial and therefore a much tougher sell, probably even in a progressive market such as Portland...The station, considered one of the nation’s more successful progressive talk outlets for many years, also carried WYD Media’s Thom Hartmann, Premiere Networks’ Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy.

(boy if THAT'S successful...)

Maybe this is them declaring “mission accomplished.” No further need to run at a loss, their victory is complete.

I’m not so sure about all this. I’d listened to WGST AM 640 for decades....conservative talk radio here in Atlanta.

I month or so ago, it quietly flipped from conservative talk to MEXICAN....all Mexican all the time under the banner of ESPN, supposedly.

We are inundated with a people who seek to do nothing but take from us and cause us harm. We are infested. I’ll leave it to others to sort out the illegal vs legal crap.

The election is over and Soros has closed his wallet. They don’t need progressive talk anymore, only government(tax payer)-paid ‘advertisements’.

I read that the station in Portland flipped because they negotiated the rights to broadcast the Portland Trailblazer games.

Even in loony liberal Portland the Trailblazer’s outdraw Randi Rhoades.

And Bain Capital owns Clear Channel. My theory... it was planned because they thought Mitt was winning and didn’t want progressive talk to rally the masses like Rushbo & his clones do against Dems. Now that Mitt lost, they did it anyway so the next election they won’t have KPOJ’s progressive voice to keep everyone focused on what’s really going on.
This is far more than a major loss to our community... this is a POWER GRAB by the 1% who know without a doubt that who ever controls the media and the message controls the power.
We’re toast.

I make a point of listening to this station from time to time to keep up with the other side and to test my own value scale as well.

On the weekend they play a show called Ring of Fire that would shock most people who haven't heard it. I find it nasty and hateful from start to finish. Yet, I wonder if liberals don't think the same when they listen to conservative shows, if they ever do.

The thing I hear the most is a trend of psychological projection where everything they do is attributed to conservatives. Right now almost every show is centered around republican vote fraud, racism and vote suppression. The root of all evil (to them) is the Koch Brothers and Citizens United. Of course they see no wrong in George Soros, unions or ACORN.

I have noticed that some of their shows are already being replaced with music, sports or gardening. It's interesting to hear the liberal side and I'll keep listening when I have the time.

The ironic thing is that the change, which occurred last Fri a couple days earlier than originally announced, broke right into Randi Rhodes show...and the station that was praising Obama was now going into play by play of a team _managed by Moochelle Obama’s brother_!

>>Craig Malcolm Robinson (born April 21, 1962) is an American college basketball coach and the current head men’s basketball coach at Oregon State University. He was previously the head coach at Brown University. He was a star forward as a player at Princeton University in the early 1980s and a bond trader during the 1990s.
He is the older brother of U.S. First Lady Michelle Robinson Obama, and the brother-in-law of U.S. President Barack Obama.

Can’t remember if Ring of Fire was the show with Robert F Kennedy Jr (he with the voice that sounds a bit like shaky Katherine Hepburn)...maybe a guy name Palantonio or something is involved with it

nasty and hateful: they prefer to say “speaking truth to
power”

>> everything they do is attributed to conservatives.

Jonah Goldberg says liberals are the real fascists but they
portray fascism as coming from the Right.

Here is the new site for KPOJ Portland complete with Babe of the Day. http://www.foxsportsradio620.com/main.html

There was no “stunting”...no announcements saying the format changed. The word spread online, but to most it came as a surprise.

KPTK—I had heard airchecks of it years ago when it was
a classic country station—may well change to the new
“CBS Sports Network” which is to expand in January.
I don’t know for sure.
From the left leaning blatherwatch:
>>As heard on the Stephanie Miller show this morning, they have announced that AM1090 will flip formats in Janurary. We put in a call to AM 1090 and haven’t heard back from programming. We’ll update to confirm or deny.

The Libs have no need for talk radio apparently.

They have figured out how to use Twitter and Flitter and other social media to directly target each individual voter and convince each that Obama will personally make their most boneheaded pet issue his #1 priority.

You've got it right about Kennedy. He whines about environmentalism and capitalist pigs. But, he built a two million dollar "green" mansion for himself for nothing by using gubmint grants and donated services.

His partner is Mike Papantonio, a trip and fall lawyer from Florida where he avoids state taxes while raving about the rich not paying their share.

Progressive Radio (COMMIE RADIO) Sounds great until their message is finally figured out by the people. Then it collaspes faster than a DEMOCRATIC POLL WORKER can shred 100,000 ROMNEY VOTES.

It must be the hardest sales job in the world. Imagine trying to get sponsors for a station that hates business.

Stephanie Miller is a nasty witch.

I happened to tune by her old late night TV show on the day they had told her she was canceled. Poor Fyvush Finkel was stuck there on her couch as she ranted and raved and launched demented attacks on her boss, all on live TV.
