LINDSEY GRAHAM POISED TO SELL OUT TO CHUCK SCHUMER ON IMMIGRATION REFORM
Powerline ^ | November 13,2012 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 11/13/2012 8:44:40 AM PST by Hojczyk

When the smarmiest Senate Democrat and the smarmiest Senate Republican sit down for talks on an issue of fundamental importance to the nation, and to the future of conservatism, conservatives should be very scared. When the smarmy Democrat is Chuck Schumer, a shrewd partisan, and the smarmy Republican is Lindsay Graham, a squish who gets his kicks from cooperating with Democrats, conservatives should panic.

Schumer’s objectives in the negotiations are clear: to reach a deal that will enable the Democrats (1) to cement their position as the Party that dragged reluctant Republicans into a breakthrough immigration deal, thereby keeping the Dems’ promise to Hispanics and (2) to cement his Party’s future success by bringing millions of reliable Democratic voters into American politics.

Graham’s objective is also clear. He wants to ensure his status as a star legislator who is able to broker bipartisan deals that address the nation’s most important problems.

It’s obvious which Party will emerge as the winner in these negotiations.

I don’t doubt that such a future is okay with Lindsey Graham, who isn’t much of a conservative and who regards himself as above Party. Graham’s name will be on landmark legislature and he will have been at the center of an historic, bipartisan deal, and that’s what matters most to him.

I would once again call Lindsey Graham the Arlen Specter of the South, but to do so now would dishonor a dead man.

Lindsey Graham may think with the recent struggles of certain Tea Party candidates, that he can get away with this. But he will not- he will be the number one target during the primaries.

It would be one thing if they would trade major concessions like this for something useful but they never do. They fight and fight and fight and then quit.

They get NOTHING in return and they make NO one happy. We are furious with them for quitting and the Not Us are furious with them for fighting it for so long.

I hope TEA Party people in South Carolina are actively talking to Joe Wilson and/or Tim Scott about kicking Graham to the curb.

Illegal Alien Amnesty is Anti-American Bigotry

If the GOP does not pull its collective head out of its a—, a lot of conservatives are gone.

And its just not Grahamnesty....Mccain, Rubio, and a few other GOPer Senators are ready to sell out America on Illegal Alien Amnesty

Good luck GOP winning national elections with a base of Illegal Aliens and Karl Rove Liberals. Ask President McCain and President Romney on how well that works

Anyone that remains in the republican party just rewards this behavior. If their registration dropped to zero and the tea party identification increases will they get it?

Seems like deja vu all over again!

At the time of the last (1986) Amnesty tragedy, the NY Times said that then Congressman Schumer was the one who "engineered the agreement" that allowed its passage in both the House and Senate.

To get that Amnesty passed Schumer said "We are here to solve problems before they become crises. Sure enough if we do nothing, our immigration problem will become an immigration crisis."

[Both quotes are from "House Approves Compromise Bill on Illegal Alien" NY Time, 10/16/86. ]

Now that Schumer's 1986 'solution' has metastasized into a crisis 4-6 times larger than the 1986 3 million illegals problem, sleazebag snake-oil salesman Schumer is selling the same medicine.

And, of course, it is self-declared "Republican by day, Democrat by night" Lindsey Graham who is assisting him in the sale.

Those two have been fast friends for years. They served together on the Judiciary committe in the House and now in the Senate.

Graham is up for re-election in two years. He’ll likely screw his own constituency to secure himself a “bipartisan” administration position. Or the democrats will help him get re-elected by funding some phony candidate to water down any conservative challenge so he’ll get renominated. Graham is a democratic senator in conservative South Carolina, whatever he calls himself notwithstanding.
