‘The Miracle of Abortion’: The Onion imagines showing 8th graders the reality of abortion

November 12, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Remember having to watch those sex-ed videos as a teenager about puberty or pregnancy that made everyone in the classroom just a little uncomfortable? Now imagine that while your local Planned Parenthood abortion advocates are teaching a class of young children about having sex, with taxpayer funding from Obamacare, that they dare to show a video of what really happens during an abortion. How horrible would that be?

The satirists at The Onion imagined such a scenario in a recent “news story.” Middle school children “squirmed uncomfortably and grimaced in disgust” when shown the “educational video” titled The Miracle Of Abortion during health class.

“It was so sick,” The Onion quoted 13-year-old Ethan Grimm as saying. “When it came out, it was all slimy and such a gross color. Ugh. We’ve all heard about how abortions work, but I didn’t expect it to be so disgusting in real life.”

While depicting the reality of how gruesome and traumatic such a video would be, the “article” was from The Onion, and there were of course lines meant to be ironic and humorous.

“I couldn’t even watch when they showed the doctor examining the uterine contents,” young Jessica Coleman, who found the abortion process unbearable, told The Onion. “I think I still want to have a kid aborted when I get older, but after watching this video, I think I’ll only have one.”

At last the teacher explains the purpose in showing her students the graphic reality of an abortion procedure:

“I recognize it’s uncomfortable for kids their age to watch, but as they start to become aware of their own sexuality, it’s important they see what actually happens to the female body during abortion.”

“They’re going to have to learn about it some time,” Flannery continued. “And while they may find abortion unpleasant now, I always assure them that when they become sexually active adults and start thinking more about their own lives and children, they’ll realize what a true miracle it is.”

What The Onion article really portrays is the sad normalization of abortion in society. Like any other sex-ed video, the teacher showed her students the video to prepare them for a “normal” part of adult sexuality. But while we’ve lived with legalized abortion as a nation for almost 40 years now, young women, and men, still are never taught that an unborn life is a real human being that is completely recognizable as a baby.

I recently taught a Sunday school class of sixth graders where we watched a film showing 4-D ultrasound video of fetal development week by week. I gave the students my opinion that one of the biggest lies told by pro-abortion activists causing women to choose abortion is that an unborn life in the womb isn’t really a baby or isn’t really alive. When the film moved from 20 weeks to 25 weeks of development, I paused the movie, explained that in many parts of the world it’s still legal to have an abortion done at 24 weeks of development, and asked the students, “Does that look like a baby to you?” Not surprisingly, “Yes!” was the answer all around. It wasn’t our religion telling them that this unborn life in the video was a live human baby, it was science and reason.

In reality, parents would be outraged if schools showed a real video of an abortion procedure to young students. Pro-life activists are attacked and threatened all the time for standing on sidewalks with images of baby parts torn apart during an abortion. Many of the complaints are that “kids might see these images.” The reality of abortion is disgusting, horrible, and seeing it could scar the kids for life. Or it could be a valuable lesson that they’ll never forget. But with the modern science of 4-D ultrasound imagery, there’s no excuse for parents, and students, not to see what a human life in the womb really looks like. These kinds of images are truly valuable educational tools to expose the lies of pro-abortion activists, and to engage in meaningful discussions about the dignity of human life.

The intent of actually teaching children about abortion is to harden their hearts to the act of murder. Unless the children do have opportunity to see dignity in the life of an unborn child they will accept the destruction of their own children just as so many women do today by getting encouraged by media lies. When a mother or father see their very own unborn child in an ultrasound video their hearts are struck with understanding and recognition of their very own kinship with the little one, and they choose life. Yet if children are brainwashed they may not, just as the children in Germany who were brainwashed lost their connection with their family. They turned in their own parents after reporting words said that implied their parents opposition to the government, causing their deaths in prison. This is psychological training. It must be stopped. God can help us.

The author of the article makes the point that it wasn’t religion but science and reason that showed the children (in the satire) that a baby is human. I don’t know why religion is discounted as an explanation for anything these days, like for why abortion and homosexuality is wrong.

If there is no God, then an aborted baby is just a piece of meat. “Science and reason” may tell us the baby is human, but so what? Without God, that life has no value beyond what other humans assign it. It’s Christ who teaches us that ALL human lives are valuable — none worth less than the others.

American society got along very well without the government schools becoming involved in curiculum and teaching youngsters about sexual education and more specifically homosexual ‘love’ as being just another way of getting one’s rocks off!

Nothing is left to the parents any more and they need to wake up and find out what’s going on at school.

Look at the senators that defended life, they were put out. This society is so secular it will all end tragically for them, it seems more like believers against non believers in America today.

The "choice" is before you have sex but of course in this secular, God rejecting society nothing is your fault, we do not have to take responsibility for our actions so we can murder our unborn innocents because having fun with no responsibility is the American way.

Science and reason is a human way of trying to start to understand God's plans and designs. If that's the way to convince people to not abort, that's the way.
