Squandered Trust

So the diagnoses are all in -- the voting public has lost its collective mind; they've all been brainwashed by the media; the welfare class has taken over and is now in charge. The downhill slide has begun, and there's nothing to stop it. All that awaits us is the fate of Weimar Germany, if not The Road Warrior.

But try taking a look at it from the viewpoint of the average, everyday voter. From the limited point of view of the public, Election 2012 looks at least something like a rational choice. (If a less than admirable one.)

For decades, the Republican Party told the people of this country that once they got in, things would be different. No more wild spending, no more deficits, none of the waste and extravagance that had marked the decades of Democratic rule since the New Deal.

But that was a lie. Because soon after the GOP did get its hands on the purse-strings in taking the House in 1994, it began throwing around change just as wildly as the Dems at their worst. As far as the public could see, a new set of pigs had muscled its way to the trough, and that was all.

Much of this spending was absolute wastage. For instance, Trent Lott, one of the dumbest men ever to run the Senate, arranged for the construction of a billion-dollar helicopter assault ship that the Navy didn't want and couldn't even port (lacking the facilities), evidently so that he could watch it being built from his beach house in Mississippi. As we all know, any Democrat can pull this kind of thing once a week and never have it mentioned in the old media. But Republicans being, of course, a different story, the media made damn sure that...

This ed almost had me. then I read this:

Not even two of God's honest men, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, were able to bring it off this time.”

Extreme sarcasm?

I would think so.

I have to wonder how many votes the GOP lost when Boehner said he would fund ObamaCare and when R&R said they would not reinstate DADT.

Add to that list when Romney said he was supporting:

1. Abortion in the cases of "Rape, Incest, Life and HEALTH of the mother"
2. Gay Adoption
3. Gays in the Boy Scouts

And as far as Romney being Honest, what about when he said in January that he had always been Pro-Life at CPAC, and then does the turn-about in August on the 27th and makes the statement in support of Abortion as mentioned above?

There are many other myriad lies he has told and could be listed, however, I think everyone probably gets the point.

I missed the part about DADT.
That shows you how f-ed up this country has become. If something looked popular Romney would have said he was for it. He didn't seem to believe in anything.

Actually, I think he DID believe in the Progressive issues he supported both as a Presidential candidate and as Governor of MA, he just was real adept at lying about it.

OK, when did he talk about this and why? This had absolutely nothing to do with the POTUS race.
Or you talking about before that as Governor?

The election worked out very well for Washington DC.....for which Obama has been the best thing ever ...since FDR.

DC is pleased!!!! They are spared a fight over ObamaCare...and will be gifted with yet new taxes to play with.

That could also be interpreted as his just going with the wind, as my original point said.

After all, no conservative was going to win the MA governorship. Hell, they just elected that Marxist Senator Warren.

Romney was the empty suit.

There’s no way I can bend over that far, let alone fit my head in there.

Romney spokesperson, Andrea Saul, wrote in an e-mail in AUG 2012 that Romney’s 1994 position for inclusion of open homosexual members in BSA remains his position today.

Man, I am surprised you missed this.

This is part of our(conservatives) problem, we seem to be easy to fool.

not so much easy to fool [although some will buy anything said] as just friggin overwhelmed by soundbytes and talking points...

sadly, unless a person can spend 24/7 doing research to find the *truth* as proven by the record, and sifting through the *nuances* of the cheerleaders, spokesdrones and water carriers, its impossible to know all and catch all of the policies...

the nature of man and politics/power...by design...

In retrospect, Romney only had fire in the belly against Santorum and Gingrich, not against Obama, which I supposed was quite predictable. Just a re-run of 2008, with IN and NC changing their minds.

Who is we??

I never said anything nice about Romney or claimed anything good would come from him, not even during the peak of the hype here. In fact I am not that impressed with Ryan either.

Where is this Andrea Saul email? Who reported it and did they post a copy on the internet? And who was it to?

I am not easily fooled by anyone. Gilb will vouch for me.

And here, only four years later, you have the Republics returning, saying: let us come back, and things will be different.

. . .

You only have to go back to 2010 to see how sincere they are.

As I recall, one of Boehner’s first acts when they regained the House was to refuse a vote to defund ObamaCare, citing their own House rules as the excuse.

They’ve controlled the purse strings for two years and by how much has the debt ceiling been raised since then? They even abdicated their responsibility to the point of allowing Obama to raise it of his own volition.

Repeal and replace quickly became the ObamaCare meme. Romney’s very own record was a problem. “Anyone But Obama” might not be the best rallying cry. The McCain wing deriding conservatives as “Hobbits” sucked; their trashing of Bachmann and others was not helpful. Virginia shutting out primary candidates wasn’t so smart. Geeze, what else.... Little more than a peep out of them on some of Obama’s actions.

In the two years since their huge gains, the GOP’s done what, exactly, to earn the public’s trust? What have they given us to vote FOR?

neither of us flinched during the sh!tstorm that was the mittenepiphany...this *we* stuff is but a generalization though...although WE, I and sol are about the only two i recall that spoke truth about ryan and his less than stellar ability to flop on the sequestration deal, and *his* budget, that wasnt anything to be happy about either...

sol reads the tea leaves pretty well, and dude, im a bit surprised that you dont recall the homo boy scouts re-affirmations...

im almost sure we discussed it at the time, although we were both getting slam pinged by mittens lovers trying to insult and condescend, so it mightve just gotten *lost* in all the other points...

I understand and respect your questions. Sadly, the link below does not answer them.

Mitt Romney Comes Out in Support of Homosexual Boy Scout Leaders, Members
August 6, 2012
by Heather Clark

... According to The Associated Press, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul told the news outlet in an email that Romney still stands by his beliefs that homosexual men should be able to serve in the organization. She specifically noted that Romney had outlined his views in 1994 during a political debate, and that his stance has not changed. ...

Just to let you know, up until the election was over my tagline was ‘Romney is still a liberal. Just watch him’ and it was that since the primary.

I had no faith in him for anything. In fact I thought his campaign plan was weak.
