Veterans Twice as Likely to Cheat on Their Spouses as Non-Veterans

Men and women who have served in the military have considerably higher rates of marital infidelity and divorce than the population at large, according to a 2011 study.

"Veteran Status, Marital Infidelity, and Divorce," a paper presented at last year's American Sociological Association Meeting, found that:

32 percent of veterans who were ever married reported that they'd had extra-marital sex, compared with 16.8 percent of ever-married non-veterans; 38.5 percent of ever-married veterans had gotten divorced, compared with 28.9 percent of ever-married non-veterans; For both veterans and non-veterans, sexual infidelity is likely to lead to divorce. People who reported that they'd cheated on their spouses were more than 2.3 times more likely to have gotten divorced than those who hadn't been unfaithful.

“Is there a point?”

Gee, ya think? On Veterans Day.

Doh!

You guys disappoint. You can’t see this as a continuation of the Press placing Obama on a pedestal?

I found that a lot of the “TDY widows” at the NCO club were officer’s wives.

Its Veterans day — a day to honor them, not focus on and highlight the shortcomings that affect all humans, not just military people.

Just jump right in there. Many spend YEARS apart, holding families together, single mothers, participating in community and church activities, in a small town atmosphere, where any indiscretion is widely known, but who wouldn’t cheat becausethey enjoy having character, but endure great suffering.

And This is what you have for them on Veterans Day.

Un believable.

Low.

BTW Petreaus situation stinks. If he was fooling around, everyone around him knew it.

My dad never cheated. He got married after his tour was done and he finished his commitment to his country. He is still married today and never strayed on mom.

Should read:

“Non-veterans twice as dishonest about marital infidelity as veterans”

More anti-American propaganda from liberals who pretend to love the military but really hate it. These are the same people, or are the indoctrinated children of the same people, who used to call my dad and other Vietnam vets “baby killers”, etc. They don’t fool me for one moment. I despise these people.

Of course he did.

This is a hit piece on Veterans Day.

Every post should be defensive of their reputation and knocking the horrible “journalist” with this National Enquirer level hit piece in this liberal rag.

If you were associated with the military and you still are, you know that you don’t see any truth to this stupid premise.

This is a very low hit piece and it is propaganda, done by peoople trying to, and they will continue, to degrade what is good about this country.

It should not be afforded the dignity it has.

Could it be that either spouse that is away from their spouse would be more likely to stray? Of course military folks are much more likely to be estranged from their spouse for long periods of time - could that really have an effect?

This is not any kind of accurate poll until it takes into account way too many other folks.

My guess is that Veterans are not more likely to stray if compared to civilians that are away from their spouses for any length of time.

Just another poll trying to tear down both family and military service.

You know I meant to say, of course he never cheated.

Additionally, cheating is against the UCMJ, something this writer has no famililarity with, I am certain.

Marital fidelity is well respected within the military.

Not surprising as the job requires you to be away from your spouse for months at a time.

You're either faithful or you're not; no real excuse. I wonder if spouses of military cheat more often.

Just another military hit piece...and based on a quick read, it doesn’t even use the word infidelity correctly.

Sociological "research" is so very often political opinion cloaked in vague trappings of science that is fraudulently used as cover.

This gives pseudoscience a bad name.

I’ve been under the impression that the divorce rate of the general population approached 50%. You know, “ one in two marriages ends in divorce”, so I don’t believe the initial assumptions of the article.

Your comments are right...no person is more honorable, true, loyal and will have your back than a US Veteran. Especially a Devil Dog. God Bless them all.

Perhaps those who have served are simply more honest with their responses to such a survey.
