The Petraus Brief: with apologies to Grisham
IDMB.com

Posted on 11/12/2012 8:12:55 PM PST by disraeligears

An amabassador, his aide, and two navy seals have been killed (Two Supreme Court Justices have been killed.) The CIA Director gives apparently misleading testimony, albeit not under oath, to Congress regarding these mens' deaths, in addition to having possibly given contradictory information to a woman with whom he has had an affair. (Now a college professor, who clerked for one of the two men, who's also having an affair with one of his students, is given a brief by her, that states who probably, wanted to see these two men dead.) A potential rival of the mistress gives information to an FBI agent which discloses the affair between the CIA Director and the mistress (He then gives it to one of his friends, who works for the FBI.)

TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; Foreign Affairs; Government; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: benghazi; broadwell; obama; petraus; vanity
Read the synopsis of the Pelican Brief on IDMB.com and compare it to what is known about Petraus and his disclosures to Congress, Broadwell's representations at the University of Denver, and tonight's FBI search of Broadwell's Charlotte house and consider the following:

1. Why would Obama nominate Petraus, a potential rival to the Presidency, as CIA Director?

2. Is it true,as it has been reported, that Obama knew of the Petraus-Broadwell affair at the time of the nomination?

3. Did the affair leak inadvertently when Jill Kelly contacted an acquantiance who happened to work for the FBI regarding Broadwell's allegedly harrassing emails.

4. Is this the same FBI agent who allegedly contacted Eric Cantor out of concern that the affair was being buried by the DOJ?

5. Did Petraus tailor his September testimony to Congress backing up the now discredited "video" causation for the Benghazi attacks?

6. Is it true, as Broadwell stated in her Denver appearance, that there was an illegal detention operation at the CIA annex in Benghazi?

You can't make this stuff up.... unless you're John Grisham.

The first of Allen Drury “all names changed to protect the guilty” political novels, Advise and Consent was brought to the screen by producer/director Otto Preminger. The film hinges upon the appointment of Robert Leffingwell (Henry Fonda) to Secretary of State. Leffingwell has been hand-picked by the President (Franchot Tone), meaning that there’ll be a battle on the Senate floor between adherents of and opponents to the current administration. Among the participants are veteran Dixiecrat Charles Laughton, freshman Senator Don Murray and powerseeker George Grizzard. Burgess Meredith also shows up as a man who is brought into the Senate to “prove” that Leffingwell is a communist. To neutralize Murray, Grizzard threatens to dredge up a homosexual incident in Murray’s past, which results in the latter’s suicide. Advise and Consent is a slow and old-fashioned film, coming to life only when Laughton and Grizzard are on screen—and in the climax, in which the fate of Leffingwell’s appointment is left in the hands of acting President Lew Ayres

Kelley is a friend to the Petreaus couple. She gets harassing emails from the husband’s lover to butt out.

She calls a friend thats an agent with the FBI in the Tampa field office. The FBI agent brings it to his superiors there. They tell him to back off.

FBI agent ignores this and goes to House Majority Leader Cantor so it won’t be swept under the rug.

The FBI agent is later discredited as having emailed a topless photo of himself to Kelley. (Family beach photo? Implies it’s lurid in some way.)

CIA head testimony directly contradicts the section chief and state department cameras over the protest gone wild.

Senate Intelligence head says she found about it through the press. Secretary of Defense says the same. President allegedly knew nothing until the night of the election... For an investigation that started in te summer and involved the head of the CIA.

Did Petraeus tailor his testimony in fear of being outed by the administration?

Was the lack of a timely response to the Benghazi attack related to the alleged illegal detention center?

Why is Petraeus really reluctant to testify? Is he lawyering up?

Is tonight’s FBI search of Broadwell’s home in response to her disclosure of the alleged detention facility?

Did Cantor being informed of Petraeus’s affair force the Administration’s hand in giving up Petraeus?

Oh, and don’t forget twin sister was married to a Bush Appointee and it ended badly. She sues an employer for Sexual Harassment and the Employer claims she lied in a bankruptcy filling forgetting to list items such as a Sable. Said sister is living with Jill but maybe not for long because the home is in foreclosure.

I don't remember but I don't think so--I read Advise and Consent a very long time ago (high school or earlier).

Why? Because "Grisham" would have him killed off before he can do any real damage.

Posted this on another thread; fits here too:

It could be that we have a few unsung heroes in the FBI who are doing yoeman’s duty to get the dirty laundry of the Obama administration out in the open so that the public knows what’s really going on, in spite of massive coverup by the Obama WH, MSM, and Dem Party. It is the FBI that blew the whistle on Petraeus, perhaps to save him from further blackmail by Obama and his henchmen, and to save our country from policy decisions hurtful to it.

The FBI also informed the Pentagon first about the investigation into General John Allen, and his e-mail ties to Mrs. Kelley, the other “other woman” in this whole messy affair. Did the FBI bypass the White House and go straight to the Pentagon to get the latest info out about Allen, or were they prompted by the White House to inform the Pentagon. I doubt the latter, so I wonder what are the real motivations of the FBI, other than to stick it to the CIA. Or perhaps they suspect all sorts of bad stuff is happening over at the CIA. Like Benghazi, and gun running there, and what really happened in Libya.

Or perhaps the FBI is merely another arm now of the White House regime. And within the FBI, if they have become basically White House operatives, are there a brave few leaking info to friendly media in order to try to let us know what is really going on behind the scenes. So much intrigue, so little time. Where’s Brad Thor when you need him?

When Advise & Consent came out, the author’s views were just ambivalent enough to allow Hollywood to produce a blockbuster. But Drury, unbeknownst to the Hollywood and academic sets, was a staunch Conservative. Leffingwell was Hiss, not some starry-eyed liberal who was smitten with Communismm is his youth; Brig Anderson, not Ackerman, was Joe McCarthy. The president was Eisenhower, not LBJ. Seab was Nunn or Scoop Jackson; the majority leader, Munson, was a composite of what we’d consider the GOP-e; and Orrin Knox was Everet Dirksen. This doesn’t become clear (crystal clear!) until you’ve read the follow-on books, the best of which was Capable of Honor, stressing the culpability of a runaway, liberal media. It was an incredibly accurate portrayal of media bias, well in advance of the proof provided by Cronkite, focusing on Walter Wonderful, the composite of Walter Lippman & Edward R. Murrow. Well worth the long read, much better than A&C—but of course untouched by Hollywood because Drury’s true colors were no longer pale pastels.
