~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota

Minot Air Force Base is a U.S. Air Force installation in Ward County, North Dakota, 13 miles north of the city of Minot.

Minot AFB is the home of two major wings: the 5th Bomb Wing of the Air Combat Command (ACC), and 91st Missile Wing of the Air Force Space Command (AFSPC).

Originally opened in 1957 as an Air Defense Command (ADC) base, it became a major Strategic Air Command (SAC) base in the early 1960s, with both nuclear missiles and bombers (& tankers). When SAC was inactivated in 1992, the nuclear mission of the base was divided between the two present commands.

Minot Air Force Base is home to the 5th Bomb Wing and its squadron of B-52H Stratofortress bombers. The bomb wing serves as the base's host unit in charge of maintaining the base's day-to-day activities in addition to its combat mission. Minot AFB is also home to the 91st Missile Wing and its fleet of Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles and UH-1N helicopters.

Known by its nickname, the Warbirds, the 5th Bomb Wing is part of Air Combat Command as well as the host wing at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. The bomb wing and its fleet of B-52H Stratofortress bombers serve as part of the Air Force's conventional and strategic combat force. The men and women of the wing are capable of flying anywhere around the world and delivering a wide range of precision-guided munitions.

Minot Air Force Base is home to the 91st Missile Wing - one of the Air Force's three operational intercontinental ballistic missile units. The missile wing, whose members are known as the Rough Riders, are responsible for defending the United States by maintaining a fleet of 150 Minuteman III missiles located in underground launch facilities scattered across the northwest part of the state. The wing's missile complex stretches over 8,500 square miles -- approximately the same size as Massachusetts.

The Dakota Territory Air Museum was founded in June of 1986 with the incorporators' dream and desire to provide the most comprehensive aviation facility in the state and region.

Plans were laid early that the museum would not only be a place to display famous military and vintage aircraft, but would be a place in every way dedicated to telling and showing the rich and varied story of our region's aviation history.

In the short time since the museum's dedication, the members have built a solid foundation, establishing a working museum with aircraft, restoration projects and a role in the region's promotion of aviation activities and air shows.

Did You Say No?

November 13, 2012

“Okay, here are the rules,” Marty said. “You can do whatever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want until someone tells you no.”

Those were our instructions on our first visit to our friends’ lake house. Marty and his wife, Lynn, who enjoy entertaining, give their guests lots of freedom to enjoy themselves. When we noticed the sailboat next to the paddleboat next to the pontoon boat, we knew we were in for a fun afternoon.

Marty told us no only once—when he saw that we were about to feed the swans that swam up next to us. He knew that if the birds were fed once, they would become aggressive if they didn’t get fed the next time.

Adam and Eve lived in the most beautiful locale, and they too had lots of freedom. However, when God said no, they resisted (Gen. 3). He told them not to eat from a certain tree, but they thought they knew better.

Adam and Eve would have kept good company with a lot of us. Sometimes we can’t understand why our heavenly Father says no. When that happens, He can help us to adjust our thinking. We need to realize that even as He denies us, He’s saying to our hearts, “You can trust Me. I know what is best.”

I may not always understand
The way that You may lead,
But, Lord, in faith I’ll clasp Your hand
And trust You for each need. —Dean
God may deny our request,
but He will never disappoint our trust.

Read: Genesis 3:1-7

Of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat. —Genesis 2:17

Acts 15-16

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful Bluebonnet picture and post ConorMacNessa!

Ennis Texas is southeast of me by about an hour, the country for sure, and just beautiful all year long, but especially in the Spring. It’s the beginning of the East Texas Piney Woods.

Feel so blessed to be here with y’all.

*MUCHO HUGS*
