The idea of making a american soldier turned jihadist into a hero is repulsive in the extreme

Except, as the audience is in the dark about Brody's real ultimate intent, he can't be the hero, or even the protaganist. The audience POV is with the crazy lady from the CIA.

I don’t know if I agree. Maybe for the balance of season 1. Season 1 ends with him deciding not to blow up stuff/people as a suicide bomber. Pretty clear at that point what his intent is. No one can say they don’t know who and what is being pushed now. In a sane world this piece of shite would be a career killer. It would have received no audience and died early in the season with all involved too embarrassed to admit being a part of it.
