'Homeland' Star Says Obama Watches Show While Pretending to Work

Homeland" star Damian Lewis has become quite chummy with the Commander in Chief. Seems President Barack Obama is a big fan of Lewis' Showtime terrorism-themed series, and the pair even communicate via email. A recent exchange, shared by the actor while appearing on a British talk show, brought up a long-simmering fear some Americans have about the president's religious persuasion.

During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show Saturday night, the Emmy-winning actor says the president wanted a signed DVD box set of the Showtime hit to give to the Teamsters labor union (the president has previously revealed Homeland is his favorite show).

Lewis says co-star Claire Danes wrote something along the lines of, ”I was a fan of yours long before you were a fan of ours.” But when it was the British-born Lewis’ turn, the actor says he jokingly wrote: “From one Muslim to another.”

It's fine for an American president to take time out to unwind with a popular TV show. But Lewis's interview also included this nugget, the kind of revelation that would have been a mini-scandal had Obama's predecessor uttered it.

Lewis adds that he asked the president during a dinner how he finds time to watch the show. “Aren’t you busy running the free world?” the actor recalls asking. Lewis, while impersonating the president’s speech cadence, says Obama replied: “On Saturday afternoons. Michelle, she takes the two girls, they go play tennis. I go into the Oval Office. I pretend I’m gonna work and I switch on Homeland.”

I assume POTUS is not a college football fan.

This is NOT a relevant thing to talk about. I take breaks at work, esp. at night, to come to FR and other news sites to catch up on what is going on in the world (I have no windows in my office cave and the bear snores a lot).

It is the other 264 days, 23 hours, that I’m worried about.

Homeland is the biggest piece of CRAP hollywood has laid in quite a while and that is really saying something. The idea of making a american soldier turned jihadist into a hero is repulsive in the extreme. That the president of the untied states views it as his “favorite” entertainment is disgusting. I used to really like Dick Winters. I will never watch him in anything again. The list of actors I will watch is getting pretty short.

I used to really like Damian Lewis. No more. I thought he was intelligent; turns out he's just another ignorant sucker for Obama.

Except, as the audience is in the dark about Brody's real ultimate intent, he can't be the hero, or even the protaganist. The audience POV is with the crazy lady from the CIA.

I don’t know if I agree. Maybe for the balance of season 1. Season 1 ends with him deciding not to blow up stuff/people as a suicide bomber. Pretty clear at that point what his intent is. No one can say they don’t know who and what is being pushed now. In a sane world this piece of shite would be a career killer. It would have received no audience and died early in the season with all involved too embarrassed to admit being a part of it.

I'm the president and I get to watch Homeland. You can DVR the Benghazi show and watch it later.

Sadly, 1/2/2011. At least he didn’t see his screen alter ego turn into a total ass.
