So, how long does it take to get military assets stationed mere hours away from a firefight to a firefight? Apparently, it takes some 22 hours. When former Navy SEALs called for backup at the consulate in Benghazi on September 11, American assets were stationed both in Libya and in Italy. The help never came; both Navy SEALs were killed after a seven-hour ordeal.
Fifteen hours after that, the military finally showed up. According to the Associated Press:
New Pentagon details show that the first U.S. military unit arrived in Libya more than 15 hours after the attack on the consulate in Benghazi was over, and four Americans, including the ambassador, were dead.
A Defense Department timeline obtained by The Associated Press underscores how far the military response lagged behind the Sept. 11 attack, due largely to the long distances the commando teams had to travel to get to Libya.
As the AP also reports:
In particular, there was at least a 19-hour gap between the time when Panetta first ordered military units to prepare to deploy between midnight and 2 a.m. local time in Tripoli and the time a Marine anti-terrorism team landed in Tripoli, which as just before 9 p.m.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I thought the CIC was the one that is supposed to order troops to deploy-not Panetta.
Fact 1: Only the POTUS can issue a CBA to send a rescue mission into a foreign country.
Fact 2: No rescue mission was ever sent.
Unless there's someone here that's been in THAT kind of firefight ... we have NO idea what it means to hang in there waiting for backup.
7 hours fighting.
There's a speciel place in Heaven.
In Tripoli. Still not Benghazi.
Will the guys who died ever get justice or will the Liar in Chief win that one too?
“Swift” and rapid reponse... lol
and a speciel place in Hell
Yes the title of the article seems to be mistaken.
Our armed services are really the last government entities of which patriotic Americans can justifiably be proud, so look for increasing betrayals by the Obama regime in the four years ahead as Premier Hussein seeks to destroy the last vestiges of America’s former greatness.
And you great troopers - eyes open and ears up. Your enemies may not necessarily be wearing the uniform of an aggressor nation.
The Battling Bastards of Benghazi
We’re the Battling Bastards of Benghazi,
no fame, no glory, no paparazzi.
Just a fiery death in a blazing hell,
defending the country we loved so well.
It wasn’t our job, but we answered the call,
fought to the consulate, ‘n scaled th’ wall.
We pulled twenty countrymen from the jaws of fate,
led them to safety, ‘n stood at th’ gate.
Just the two of us, ‘n foe by th’ score,
but we stood fast to bar th’ door.
We called for reinforcement, but it was denied,
so we fought, ‘n we fought, ‘n we fought, ‘n we died.
We gave our all for our Uncle Sam,
‘n Obama didn’t give a damn,
just two dead SEALS, who carried the load,
no thanks to us, we were just bumps in the road.
Amen to that. There is just no humanly excuse not to even try to send help.
When the White House is holding them back to the max.
We shall see. This has only just started.
Now that we know how slow and how poorly equipped
our forces in the Euro-Afro theater are
we can count ourselves darned lucky the Soviets
never pulled the trigger on an invasion of Europe. /s
There is a movement now growing in the country to award American military personnel the Purple Heart for wounds received in the US due to terrorism (i.e. Ft. Hood Massacre and the Little Rock, Ark. recruiting station shooting (one dead, one wounded).
It is being promoted by the families of the Ft. Hood victims as well as Mr. Bledsoe, the father of the Little Rock killer, and Mr. Long, the father whose son was killed there.
Google the terms “Purple Heart and Terrorism” or a mix like that. You should be able to find the correct name of the organizations who are working on this issue.
It is possible that Doherty and Woods would also qualify for a Purple Heart as contract security officers who were killed by terrorists. The same for Ambassador Stevens and Sean Smith.
This is our way of striking back at the Coward In Chief and his ball-less Secy of Defense and JCS head Gen. Dempsey.
thanks for your post
Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.
When you need Obama’s military immediately! They’re only 22 hours away.
And they landed in Tripoli, not Benghazi. I’m not sure if we have any military in Benghazi to this day.
The prize (imho) was voted out from under the People this past Tuesday. Going on offense is folly. Being on defense (as the People are), when the game has already been lost, is folly. As someone once said, Is there a third choice?
On, please. Many thanks ................................................ FRegards
