Petraeus Affair Known About Since Summer
Weekly Standard ^ | NOV 12, 2012 | DANIEL HALPER

Posted on 11/12/2012 8:08:55 AM PST by Qbert

The New York Times reports that the Petraeus affair has been known about since the summer:

WASHINGTON — High-level officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department were notified in the late summer that F.B.I. agents had uncovered what appeared to be an extramarital affair involving the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David H. Petraeus, government officials said Sunday.

But law enforcement officials did not notify anyone outside the F.B.I. or the Justice Department until last week because the investigation was incomplete and initial concerns about possible security breaches, which would demand more immediate action, did not appear to be justified, the officials said.

The new accounts of the events that led to Mr. Petraeus’s sudden resignation on Friday shed light on the competing pressures facing F.B.I. agents who recognized the high stakes of any investigation involving the C.I.A. director but who were wary of exposing a private affair with no criminal or security implications. For the first time Sunday, the woman whose report of harassing e-mails led to the exposure of the affair was identified as Jill Kelley, 37, of Tampa, Fla.

I’d prefer to just make this a reality show or a miniseries: “The Benghazi Affair”.

Perhaps get all the principles and their families together for an episode of the Jerry Springer Show.

Sorry, but this is a flat out LIE. Anytime a person is LYING and UNFAITHFUL they are in a position to be blackmailed. Petraeus should be courts martial-ed.

This entire move is nothing more to discredit him when he testifies against the thugs regarding our Ambassador (and aides) being murdered.

He should have known they’d do this “low-rent” deal on him. These are the same people who were calling him “General Betray Us” years ago...and then he goes and works for them??

It shouldn’t have been a surprise to him that trash does trash moves.

Paula may turnout to be more of a man then the general. Starting with her biceps. He may want to save his family she may not care. She may go after the person that released this info. Think Valerie Jarret.

Don’t you get it? The administration knew about the affair and tried to blackmail Petraeus to say certain things during his testimony. He refused.

But it wasn’t happening or known about before he went to the CIA. This is where a Clintonian chimes in...”mistakes were made”. At least during the Clinton era, they had to be more artful. This Obama corruption is so brute force and pervasive, it’s not nearly as entertaining to watch. Back in the day they had to lie in delicate and intricate plots.

The FBI most likely knew of the affair when vetting him for Director of the CIA. Obama knew before the FBI because that is why he abruptly pulled him out of Afghanistan...

Yep. Which is why the NYT spin that Obama, as Commander in Chief, wasn't alerted to the fact that the CIA director was in that vulnerable position, is laughable.

It just occurred to me....who would have the facts on Obama’s background, birthplace, and other good stuff....The CIA, and who had access to the CIA files....the Director of the CIA...

Things get curiouser and curiouser. The e-mails to Kelley didn’t come from Petraeus’ government e-mail account? Then why was the FBI looking into this? Kelley wasn’t a government employee. She has a friend that’s an FBI agent who looked into this because he’s a pal? Nope. Still doesn’t pass the common sense test. Nice try, though. You get e-mails from an unidentified source saying “Stay away from my man!” and you take them to your pal in the FBI? You don’t go to your Internet provider or the local police? You go to your pal at the FBI? And he finds out that they’re from Broadwell and decides to check her whole computer out? Nope. You call her or go see her and tell her to knock it off. Look through all her e-mails? Why? “Leave my man alone!”....no judge is going to view that as a threat of physical violence. Where’s the crime? Why would the FBI, even a pal, look into this?

Beck has been covering this. His theory, they knew prior to giving him top CIA job. Kept info quite if needed to use later as means to control...mob tactic (paraphrase)

If Petraeus and Broadwell didn’t have an adulterous relationship until he was out of the Army, then they couldn’t hold the threat of military discipline over him. They could threaten her, and they could threaten his reputation. We still need a timeline.

As soon as Holder knew about this, Obama knew about this.

All this baloney about FBI Agents just happening upon this stuff and then sitting there stuck in a moral dilemma doing nothing is baloney. The head of the CIA is a powerful man. No FBI Agent is going to sit there and ponder this. What if Petraeus was compromising national security? Would you want to be the FBI Agent sitting there trying to explain to your boss how you looked into this to be a pal to Kelley and then saw it was Petraeus and looked into his e-mails and then did nothing? Nope. This goes up the chain of command in the FBI and Justice Department faster than a rocket. Sitting on it could cost you your job. Reporting it and it’s nothing? That would get you a shoulder shrug.

Reports indicate that this affair didn’t start until after Petreus told over as head of the CIA. Has anyone considered the possibility that Broadwell may be a CIA asset? That this affair was a way of controlling Petreus through blackmail? Or simply discrediting him for anything he might say or do that would be harmful to the one-worlders’ anointed dictator Obama?
