GOP opens door to immigration reform after election loss (Just throw in some more "freebies")

Republicans are warming to the idea of reforming the "broken" U.S. immigration system in the wake of their defeat in this week's presidential election by Democratic incumbent Barack Obama, who was the choice of 70 percent of Hispanic voters.

Among those raising the issue after Tuesday's loss at the polls is the GOP's highest-ranking elected official, House Speaker John Boehner, who speaks of the need for a plan to deal with the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants now in the country. "What I'm talking about is a common-sense, step-by-step approach to secure our borders, allow us to enforce the laws and fix a broken immigration system," he said Friday at a press conference.

"It's just time to get the job done," Boehner said, though declining to offer any specific ideas.

Expressing Republicans' willingness to work with Democrats, the speaker stressed that "on an issue this big, the president has to lead."

If every Republican business owner who employs illegals, and they are legion, would fire them, that would be a good start to solving the illegal immigration problem.

You can’t keep milking the cow and then complain that she eats too much.

My post supported my initial statement. With amnesty, there is no more need for anchor babies.

Oh, come on, now. My friends are telling me that it’s not cool to be a white male anymore, especially an older white male. They say we are just going to have to play the racial politics game, and nominate nothing but blacks and Hispanics from now on. Problem solved!

My post supported my initial statement. With amnesty, there is no more need for anchor babies.

Then you are under some serious delusions. The anchor baby is a tactic used by those with no legal status in the US. If amnesty is granted, there will still be two or three billion poor, potential illegal entrants around the world who would very much benefit from having an anchor baby.

You think millions of poor Mexicans and others further south - who are not physically in the US - will just magically forget about the anchor baby advantage if amnesty is granted to illegals already in the US? They would still gain all the welfare and government support benefits an anchor baby would make available to them.

Illegals already here who might receive amnesty, and the, potential future illegal entrants who could gain benefits with an anchor baby, are two totally different categories of people. Amnesty does nothing to diminish the lure of having an anchor baby for the billions of poor outside the US.

Excuse me for confining my point to the “Mexican” issue. You are correct, I did not include poor people in Malaysia who come to the U.S. to have anchor babies. Therefore, you are correct.

I’m not convinced that they’re all that worried about it.

My final post. You are simply wrong, and now even more wrong if you specifically think that amnesty will remove the anchor baby lure of the millions of poor Mexicans still in Mexico.

Mexicans in the many thousands per year will continue to come across our southern border to give birth to their anchor baby in the US, amnesty or no amnesty. The long list of benefits available to the US citizen anchor baby will still be there.

You just refuse to see that amnesty only affects those already in the US, and does nothing to remove the incentive for those outside the US to still come in illegally for anchor baby births, and, to wait for the next amnesty.
