GOP opens door to immigration reform after election loss (Just throw in some more "freebies")

Republicans are warming to the idea of reforming the "broken" U.S. immigration system in the wake of their defeat in this week's presidential election by Democratic incumbent Barack Obama, who was the choice of 70 percent of Hispanic voters.

Among those raising the issue after Tuesday's loss at the polls is the GOP's highest-ranking elected official, House Speaker John Boehner, who speaks of the need for a plan to deal with the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants now in the country. "What I'm talking about is a common-sense, step-by-step approach to secure our borders, allow us to enforce the laws and fix a broken immigration system," he said Friday at a press conference.

"It's just time to get the job done," Boehner said, though declining to offer any specific ideas.

Expressing Republicans' willingness to work with Democrats, the speaker stressed that "on an issue this big, the president has to lead."

I sure as heck wouldn’t worry about appeasing them. They’ll be heading back to where they came from when the jobs market tanks even worse.

This will fail. If we allow Hispanics to move to the forefront of minority discussions, we will find that they are willing to work hard for what they get and that they are socially much more conservative than Blacks.

Race-based conflict between Blacks and Hispanics. Whites can sit on the sideline and watch.

What Blacks say about Hispanics is no less harsh than what Hispanics say about Blacks. The difference is that Hispanics do not suffer from “White Guilt” over slavery. Something to think about...

The Hispanics throw the meat to us by voting f70% for Obama, so AFTER they do that Boehner wants to suck up to them.

Is Boehner really stupid enough to believe we will win the Hispanic vote by doing this? Balcks vote 08% with Obama again this year and Boehner thinks Republicans can get their vots by kissing their butts?

This man is too stupid to be Speaker. What he needs to do is change his political party to Democrat and leave real Republicans to worry about getting Republicans elected.

Mitt Romne was exactly right whe he said we could not win the 47%.Yet Boehner thinks he can get them by buying their allegiance, what an idiot.

That responsibility shifting trick seems to work quite well. Boehner, leading clerk of the House.

Assuming there are 30 million illegals in America, that's enough to create some 50 congressional districts and they don't even need to vote to do it. If they do vote, you can pretty much count on those districts being almost exclusively democrat. As it is we don't know how many districts exist almost wholly due to the presence of illegals.

The costs of administering a single district must run into the millions. How much pork can a district seek? How many earmarks? What will all those new democrat congressmen vote for? If you think Obamacare is bad, you haven't seen squat. Wait till the day all those democrats start dictating how many cars a family can have, what job you can have, or where you can live. Wait till they dictate that all paychecks come from government and you get a small cut of what is left over.

Illegals are nothing but government growth hormone and amnesty today is nothing short of treason.

CC--excellent post, and worth repeating in its entirety. Thanks.

Immigration/amnesty is not the problem with the Hispanic vote. They vote for the FREE GOODIES.
Rush had a brilliant idea Friday. Amnesty for all illegals now in the US. However, they can’t vote for 25 years.
How anxious do you think the Dems would be to vote for that?

Doesn’t matter, they’d both vote socialist—and the country would lose.

they are socially much more conservative than Blacks.

So why has the out-of-wedlock birth rate among Hispanics now gone beyone 50% and still rising? That doesn't sound like the behavior of socially conservative members of the Catholic church.

Hey, Liz! How've you been? Remember the days on FR where posts like this and Do not cave-in to the so-called "dream act" (Jim Robinson's own post) would get people banned?

Remember how posters like you, me, TenneseeNana, etc. would get excoriated for posting this stuff? That was all under George Bush.

Remember how I used to post this about Bush wanting to create "a new America" and people would freak out and say I was a racist nut job?

That "new America" thing sounds a lot like "transform America" now doesn't it?

For old time's sake here it is one more time:

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

Our future cannot be separated from the future of Latin America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. My Bush Epiphany By Lawrence Auster

We tried to warn our fellow conservatives about pandering to hispanics and where did it get us? To a "new, transformed" America. God help us all.

Because of the Great Society. The rules for Hispanics are no different than the rules for Blacks which also broke up their family units. Amnesty does away with the need for anchor babies and I believe that this will also have an effect on out-of-wedlock births.

Anything not 100% Deportation is Amnesty

If the GOP does not prevent Illegal Alien Amnesty...I am through w the GOP. Because, first it will be Amnesty...then it will be “but the immigrants need help”

People do not realize how much it will cost us taxpayers to have Illegal Alien Amnesty. Get ready to pay more

You're totally wrong about that. Anchor babies have nothing to do with amnesty or no amnesty, but are an interpretation of the constitution that any child born on US soil, regardless of the parent's citizenship, is a US citizen. Parents could still enter the US illegally, present themselves at a hospital, and have their anchor baby delivered at taxpayer expense.

There are other anchor baby parents who arrange vacations to US, come here from Asia or other non-Latino parts of the world, have a 'US citizen' child, then return to their home country with their anchor baby. They do that just in case things become untenable in their home country in the future.

The only thing that will end the anchor baby scam is a change in how the constitution is interpreted, by the courts or through new legislation that stood up in court.

Failure to get them out is destroying the country.People going along with this bright idea have no idea how this will transform America in sheer overpopulation.Chain migration will completely minoritize whites and the Constitutional ideals into the whooping crane overnight.14th amendment still in play. If people are willing to hand over their children’s country this easily in the GOP then there is no room to go after the Obama voter. You better get your Congress Critters phone number ready in your phone. This would be the TITANIC of ruination.
Immigrants are signing our enforcement petition all over the place in Houston, Hispanics are easy signers overall. The toughest nut to crack are young, white mothers steeped in political correctness. We are almost where we want to be on this project.

Anchor babies come with a whole host of government benefits. If it provided no benefit to illegal entrants to the country, they wouldn’t bother doing it.

“Babies born to parents in the U.S. illegally are called “anchor babies” because they automatically become citizens and immediately “anchor” their illegal families to free federal, state, and local benefits. 45% of anchor babies are born to unwed Mexican teenagers. They get on welfare immediately and can stay on welfare for life. Birthright citizenship is an irresistible magnet to get free benefits. There are about 400,000 new anchor babies born every year in the United States. 10% of all births in the U.S. are to illegal aliens. In Los Angeles, 25% of all births are anchor babies. One anchor baby is born every five minutes.” http://www.voiceforvoters.com/?cat=9

Why are you telling me the benefits of an anchor baby? Maybe you need to retract your statement in #35 which I originally responded to because it is nonsense.

Amnesty does away with the need for anchor babies and I believe that this will also have an effect on out-of-wedlock births.

Now, do you believe that amnesty does away with the need for anchor babies or not???
