Doug Thompson, founder of Capital Hill Blue, in critical condition
Dan Casey's Blog ^

Posted on 11/11/2012 5:00:35 PM PST by AppyPappy

Doug Thompson, who many of us old-timers remember from the Clinton years, is in critical condition after hitting a cow while Doug was riding his motorcycle.

Doug was a player in the anti-Clinton campaign with his website Capital Hill Blue. CHB was frequently cited on FreeRepublic during those years. He has since become a big broken-glass Democrat and retired to Floyd County to pursue photography.

I remember Doug during the 1994-1998 run up to the Clinton Impeachment with the various scandals that plagued Clinton. We used see references to his site every day on FR.

Ping. Too bad we don’t have a ping list for the Clinton survivors.

Didn’t he pull a Charles Johnson and go from associating with conservatives to becoming an uber leftist. I remember people used to link CHB here sometimes and it had become decidedly liberal.

Yes, I was very active on that site until he kind of went off the deep end.

Regardless, prayers for him and a full recovery.

Too bad we don’t have a ping list for the Clinton survivors.

That would be a very short list.

A better ping list would be the Clinton casualties

The list of dead and wounded is pretty lengthy.

Pretty much. Here’s an example of some early CHB work circa 1999. CHB set the bar for internet reporting.

CHB laid the groundwork for sites like HuffPo. CHB kept Clinton on the ropes during those years. I think that intense years of opposing a President were habits that were too hard to break.
CHB was able to do what mainstream media could not do which was attack Clinton like the mainstream media attacked Reagan and Bush. for some reason, Thompson got traction and broke out of the pack and gained some respect.

He got suckered by the TruthOut.org crowd into buying a story from a “T J Wilkerson”...who I think was probably Colin Powell’s aid Lawrence Wilkerson since “TJ” leaks concerned Powell. “T J Wilkerson” was connected to the Cuba-loving reporter Alexander Cockburn, who if I remember correctly was apparently a rogue player in our intel services at one time, known for leaking agents i.d. and getting them whacked.

Hope he recovers.

In the Bush years, Freepers called out Thompson on a story about Bush. I don't remember the details, but Thompson realized he'd been conned by his source of many years. He was man enough to admit it.

He started that site in 1994. Mosaic had just been released. Those were heady years when we wee knee-deep in Whitewater. Doug set the bar for what was later to come.

I think that was the story about Bush supposedly referring to the Constitution as “just a goddamned piece of paper.” I don’t recall the details either, but also remember something about him getting lied to by a long-time (and previously reliable) source.

I don’t know Doug, but a year ago in October I rode my Harley off a mountain rode looking at the beautiful scenery on my left while drifting right.

Broke 4 vertebra, 8 ribs, a scapula, collapsed a lung and had a concussion. Lucky to be here and be able to walk.

God speed to him from one who knows the hard days ahead to recuperate. Not 100% yet but working to get there.
