Liberal groups urge MA delegation to avoid slashing social services while working on fiscal cliff
The Republican ^

— On Thursday, a crowd of around 250 people gathered at a public library in the urban neighborhood of Roxbury. They were brought together by unions and community organizing groups. One woman addressed the crowd in Spanish; many talked about their experiences on Medicare or Social Security.

They held signs reading: “The people have spoken. Protect services” and “Raise revenue.”

Congress this week will begin to debate how to address the “fiscal cliff” – the expiration of several tax cuts at the end of the year at the same time as major cuts to domestic and military spending, referred to as “sequestration,” are scheduled to go into effect. Economists warn this could drive the country back into recession. To reach a compromise, Democratic President Barack Obama is demanding that taxes be raised on the wealthy. Republican House Speaker John Boehner is demanding that cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and food stamps be part of the discussion.

Liberal organizing groups in Massachusetts are putting pressure on members of Congress to avoid cutting social services and entitlement programs. But at the same time, the members of Congress will face competing pressures from other local and national groups – to avoid sharp cuts to industries such as defense and health care that are vital to Massachusetts’ economy and to look out for taxpayers’ interests.

“We’re saying hold the 1 to 2 percent accountable, increase their taxes, invest in proper jobs and most importantly don’t cut Social Security,” said Steven Tolman, president of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, which delivered petitions making that argument to Massachusetts U.S. Sens. John Kerry, a Democrat, and Scott Brown, a Republican.

For all you folks unfamiliar with Boston the “Roxbury” section of the city has an ObamaPhone penetration rate of about 95%....if ya catch my drift.

The SEIU has spoken, and got(told/paid) 250 to show up at a library. Anyone care to ask these SEIU members how to “create good jobs” or just told them to sit in a chair and hold signs.

Within 6 months they will announce a deal on the “fiscal cliff” with great fanfare.

Then the economy will tumble.

“Raise revenues?” These people don’t even understand what that entails and are just parroting something the pretender says on TV. It’s so sad.

Their signs are too funny! “Protect Services”, “Raise Revenues” and “Create Good Jobs”. You cannot have it all when you refuse to work. I expect the Good Jobs are for others to have in their eyes.

However if they would just take a job then they could serve themselves and the problem would be solved. It’s like my dad used to say “Simplify it Stupid!”

I'd say close to zero. The biggest "employers",by far,in Roxbury are Aid To Families With Dependent Children,"SNAP",Section 8 Housing and Medicaid.

The GOP will cave.

The deal that will be announced will be one that makes the whole thing worse in reality. It will prove to those who pay attention that this country is not interested in fiscal responsibility.

As the media praises Obama for “saving the economy” the real economic collapse will start.

I saw a pic of that sign and “coffee and doughnuts” was replaced with ‘condoms’.

Pretty funny.

Tell ya what, Steve-o....let's start with you. I want all of your shit. ALL of it. Your house. Your belongings. Your bank accounts. Your 401K's. Your investments across the board. Your off-shore accounts. Any real holdings. Coins. Collections. Your freakin' tailored clothes.

I want it ALL, you son of a bitch. Now.........dare to ask me why.

“THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! Raise Revenue.”

If one of these borderlines had made up a homemade sign with this slogan I’d probably laugh. The fact that these people are adults and the thing looks mass-produced kind of makes me sad. God help us.
