President Obama held a news conference this morning to announce the creation of a new shovel-ready jobs program - "The New Tower of Babel" project. Obama petitioned Congress to fund the massive stimulus funded construction project to help create jobs in the face of the massive layoffs that have poured in since the outcome of the presidential election. House Minority Leader John Boehner agreed to sit down with the president to discuss the merits of the project and the proposed stimulus spending. "President Obama won re-election and we are eager to demonstrate that Republicans are onboard, and to demonstrate bipartisanship with the Democrats in this jobs program" said Boehner. Construction of the tower, slated to be built in Obama's former election district in Chicago, could start as early as January 2013. Asked if there were any downsides to the project, Boehner said he would work with the President to make sure any language barriers would be addressed in a show of support for the project.
Any and all contraception needs of both male and female workers would be considered along with the proposed stimulus spending. Obama emphasized that any excess project funding, beyond the approved limits of the proposed stimulus funding, should also be borne out by those earning over a million dollars a year, or $250,000, whichever comes first, and that any compromise with Republicans over taxes collected to fund the project would not necessarily meet the compromise definition of fair share.
A no-bid stimulus contract was awarded to the Weiner Erection Company.
