Foodstamps Surge By Most In One Year To New All Time Record, In Delayed Release
Zero Hedge ^

Posted on 11/10/2012 11:47:59 AM PST by Perdogg

While there had been speculation that the BLS may delay the release of its October nonfarm payroll number until after the election, it turned out there was no reason to worry. Perhaps this is because the number, while at stall speed, was not quite as horrible as some had expected (even if the change in average hourly earnings did tumble to new all time lows) and so boosted Obama's reelection chances. There was, however, another closely tracked number which perhaps is far more indicative of the economic "growth" in the past 4 years, which certainly had a delayed release. The number of course is that showing how many Americans are on foodstamps, and usually is released at the end of the month, or the first day or two of the next month. This time the USDA delayed its release nine days past the semi-official deadline, far past the election, and until Friday night to report August foodstamp data. One glance at the number reveals why: at 47.1 million, this was not only a new all time record, but the monthly increase of 420,947 from July was the biggest monthly increase in one year. One can see why a reported surge in foodstamps ahead of the elections is something the USDA, and the administration may not have been too keen on disclosing.

I agree. We have reached the tipping point our founders warned about.

Well, Obama voters, be careful of that for which you wish - you may get it. Your life is not going to get better. Sure, you will get by on foodstamps and subsidies, but your life will suck under Obama. Without economic growth, you are so screwed as the price of energy and food goes up and you barely scrape by. Let’s see how that works out for you. Idiots.

I've known that for some time. America can never go back.

Sales of steamed crab legs and lobster at my local grocers have been skyrocketing due to food stamps.

I don’t see how that can keep up. The cards are not worth enough to buy such food daily. A recipient isn’t going to be trying that for very long before he or she learns some math.

The metaphorical image that comes to mind is "runaway mine train".

It really goes against my nature do this, but so many are suggesting to ‘bankrupt the system,’ but should I apply for an EBT? I would just buy prepper foodstuff with it. :D

If you can get food stamps, get ‘em. I am not retiring altogether, but I am going to start drawing my SS in December when I am 62

“If you understand your opponent and you understand yourself, in one hundred battles, you will never be defeated.”

Quit thinking like Republicans. The Democrats don’t see things the way we do. The Democrat leaders know there isn’t mass hunger in this country. They have used food stamps to buy votes. They use taxpayer money to buy votes, not feed the hungry. I don’t know for sure how the FOODSTAMP system works because I’ve never used them. But I do know how much my family spends each month for food. If the government sent me $500 a month to buy food with, well, then I’d have $500 to buy other stuff with. You can lease a Mercedes Benz for $500 a month. You could have a nice tropical cruise if you could save $500 a month by not spending that money on groceries. Foodstamps along with Social Security Disability, MEDICAID and numerous other programs have been used by the Democrats to buy votes. We have to stop this vote buying by the Democrats with our own money. The first thing the Republican House needs to do in 2013 is submit THE FOODSTAMP, SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY AND MEDICAID REVIEW ACT OF 2013. All benefits are stopped. The eligibility standards are reviewed and rewritten. Everyone has to reapply.

ITA. We are living in the most interesting times. Americans have taken our freedom and prosperity, exceptional in history, for granted.

I tried those food stamp qualification calculators just for the heck of it.

If you live alone and are unemployed using your unemployment to pay for rent and health insurance you don’t qualify . I used average rental cost and insurance cost I looked up online.

How is so many people on this? I couldn’t figure out the formula. I even tried adding two kids to it.
