Tempers fray as many in U.S. Northeast still without power

Frustration with continuing power outages, travel chaos, and long lines for gasoline grew on Saturday as residents of Long Island, hit hard by Superstorm Sandy, planned to a protest outside the headquarters of the local utility company.

Residents said they would take to the streets for a second day outside the Long Island Power Authority in Hicksville. There are still over 400,000 customers without power nearly two weeks after the storm, and more than 170,000 are on Long Island.

Meanwhile, New Yorkers faced their second day of gasoline rationing. Under the system, which was introduced in New Jersey last week, cars with odd- and even-numbered license plates can fill up only on alternate days.

In Far Rockaway on Saturday morning, more than 500 people lined up with empty fuel cans. Word had spread through the hard-hit seaside community Friday night that a tanker truck carrying 8,000 gallons of free gas was to arrive around 10 a.m., thanks to an anonymous wealthy donor.

A New York Police Department captain, who declined to give his name because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said the mystery donor had arranged to have the gas sent.

"The guy didn't want his name used, but he wanted to get gas to these people," the captain said. "Pretty decent thing to do ... these people need it bad."

Have load’s of experience with natural disasters. My screen name implies where on the Gulf Coast I live. If I go much more South I will be wet.

FEMA is good at bottled water, ice and MRE’s. But that is after maybe 4-6 days post cat. Temp housing like toxic trailers won't be available for another 2-3 weeks. FEMA centers will be open and you will have plenty of time in the future to fill out forms asking everything including shoe size but all you will get is the free cup of coffee

NE has some unusual customs like running off emergency help because they are not part of the union, turning down charity unless it's from an approved source.

Lot's would love to help but don't know how to navigate the local customs.

Good Luck!

I'd hate to be driving through Dixie or the West right now in a car with NY or NJ plates."""...........

Awe shucks, we don't bite. We love your MONEY as much as you love ours. Come on down. Be careful of the Reservations though, they are still pretty mad.

......"After 9/11, it was, "We're all New Yorkers now." After 11/6, it's become, "Let them freeze in the dark."""..

Fool us once......won't fool us again....The NE left us, we did not leave them, they voted to put a MUSLIM in Office, the same ILK that flew the planes into the towers, remember that? Then turn around and do it again???? BENGHAZI??

But, no kidding come on down, no hard feelings.

I’m in western NY (Rochester area). Except for the urban areas of Rochester, most of this part of the state is quite conservative. It is unfortunate for us that we have to be associated with those liberal idiots downstate. This is the same situation as people in downstate Illinois, eastern Washington, central Pennsylvania, etc.

"F-em all. The Northeast Rats voted for more Obama stuff. The get what they deserve."

DAMN RIGHT THEY DO!!!!! Suck that down, libs!!! While I feel sympathy for those conservatives stuck in this mess, too, I actually feel a measure of comeuppance for those morons who believe big government is the answer to all their prayers...

BO is probably on his phone telling those terrible non-union workers from Alabama he’s sorry and to come on back. Let ‘em freeze!

Perhaps these people will learn that big government doesn’t give a rats posterior once they got your vote. There will be no billions in aid to you like thee was for New Orleans and what aid is given will be in the hands of Gov. Cuomo’s faceless bureaucrats who will dole it out to cronies first and leave you the crumbs. Get used to not having electricity, standing in long lines for rationed gas, food and even liquor...this is the new Obama’s America.

Let’s see now, non-union electrical workers are not allowed in to fix things and New York City refuses food donations as the mayors says you can’t tell how much salt and sugar is in the food, so what do the liberals there think should be happening? I mean, just how stupid are those people? Don’t answer that: They are stupid enough to vote for Obama.

Not he isn’t. He’s on the golf course. Election is over and he won. Don’t need any more photo-ops or votes so those poor folks in the NE are on their own.

I approve of all the Post on this Thread, from #1 to #16(mine), all except one #14. lol.

Your post #16 was right; but so was #14.

About 1/3 of New Yorkers are conservative [including me] and there is no damned reason we should pick up and leave our homes and families because the Democrats are in charge. I've got a job, a home, live in the town I grew up in and love, and don't want to leave.

Silly, smug FReepers sitting in their red states should know better than to gloat and laugh at others living in cold and darkness. It's stupid and downright childish.

Even Mr. Robinson, as I understand it, lives in California and suffers from the same liberal insanity we do here. Are you going to sit, point fingers, and tell him he deserves what he gets because a majority of Californians are liberals?

The tone around here is getting really ugly, um, "lol."

Actually my post was #19. When I posted I thought it would be #16.

What a said in that post was "Elections and choices have consequences".....

Now was that a cause for this "SILLY" temper tantrum you just posted?

There are PLENTY of disaster's here in the midwest. We pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get back on the horse. (that means, get back to business as usual with no compaining).

FEMA has been denied here many times due to this adminstration and the fact that we are in a "SMUG, RED STATE"........hip hip for SMUG, RED STATES.

But hey, your more than welcome to come and join us, just watch out for those DEADLY tornadoes, snow wind & ice storms., those ones that we have PLENTY of time to prepare for. Wide open spaces here, come on down, we don't bite.

Exactly. Come on down south and watch us welcome union and non union people who are HELPING us. We bring them whatever we have to share and are tickled pink to see them come to our aide when we are without power.

Folks up north want union only and go blue year after year..well it sucks to be you. Sucks to be the entire country thanks to you. Burn wood if you think they will let you...otherwise, freeze. Folks up north can go pound sand. They got the govt they wanted. Now they can live with it. This statement is of course not aimed at FReepers. I am hoping they set fire to whatever will burn to keep warm.

central Pennsylvania

Heck, all of PA except for 5 counties. We are under an occupation here. Further, remove 1/3 of Pittsburgh from Allegheny County and the entire western pa would be red.
