Tempers fray as many in U.S. Northeast still without power

Frustration with continuing power outages, travel chaos, and long lines for gasoline grew on Saturday as residents of Long Island, hit hard by Superstorm Sandy, planned to a protest outside the headquarters of the local utility company.

Residents said they would take to the streets for a second day outside the Long Island Power Authority in Hicksville. There are still over 400,000 customers without power nearly two weeks after the storm, and more than 170,000 are on Long Island.

Meanwhile, New Yorkers faced their second day of gasoline rationing. Under the system, which was introduced in New Jersey last week, cars with odd- and even-numbered license plates can fill up only on alternate days.

In Far Rockaway on Saturday morning, more than 500 people lined up with empty fuel cans. Word had spread through the hard-hit seaside community Friday night that a tanker truck carrying 8,000 gallons of free gas was to arrive around 10 a.m., thanks to an anonymous wealthy donor.

A New York Police Department captain, who declined to give his name because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said the mystery donor had arranged to have the gas sent.

"The guy didn't want his name used, but he wanted to get gas to these people," the captain said. "Pretty decent thing to do ... these people need it bad."

I’m having a very difficult time these days conjuring up sympathy for anyone in certain states (and I live in NY!).

They voted 65-35 for Obama - why doesn’t their Messiah help them?

And it is so very revealing how the lapdog media won’t say a mumbling word about Obama’s FEMA being utterly unprepared for dealing with this calamity.

That can’t be. Obama and Christie cut all the red tape and the cooperation has been historically wonderful.

I wonder what percentage are Obama and big government supporters. These people had a weeks warning to prepare for the storm and its outcome and apparently few took the necessary steps to do so. I find it difficult to have much compassion except for the elderly and disabled.

Not sympathetic to any area which turned away “non-union” help.

These Northeast Liberals vote for Big Government, and as far as I’m concerned they can LIVE with their Big Government.

You mean obama and the magical FEMA unicorn didn’t come to your rescue? I’m shocked I tell you, just shocked. Maybe those non union linesmen you turned away could have restored your power, but you’ll never know now. Actions have consequences, even voting for it will not make it happen anymore.

There was supposed to be a nuclear power plant on Long Island but the “greens” put a stop to it.

Perhaps these poor people should be issued their very own solar panels and windmill blades...

I HATE HOW RUDE SOME ON FR ARE BECOMING TOWARDS THOSE SUFFERING FROM DISASTERS AND IF THE STATE/CITY IS FOR THE OTHER SIDE THE FEELING IS: “SCREW THEM AND THE DISASTER SHOULD HAVE BEEN WORSE.” SICKENING OF THOSE ON FR THAT POST SUCH POSTS.

I was watching the NY Gov bloviating on the news last night about how he could not understand how the utility company could run out of poles and wire?

It was the kind of “leadership” truly admired amongst the democrat elites. Blame some nameless figure that is trying to do the best it can under terrible conditions.

State and local governments are once again failing to perform their primary functions. And their failures are ignored.

What we are seeing in the NE is a prelude to what is going to happen all across America, shortage of basic services and necessities. But it will not be a temporary disruption due to Acts of God. It will be due the concerted acts of Obama and his ilk to destroy America's producing capacity and infrastructure.

The new, improved Great Depression is upon us.

The election’s over so the folks in NY aren’t needed anymore for photo ops and political props. The president got his political capital from them and now they’re left to their own fate. Didn’t NY state give the president over 60% of their vote? Gotta love the irony of a liberal state getting screwed over by liberal politicians. Sorry NY, but you’re getting what you deserve. You’re learning the lesson that many of us learned long ago and that is liberals don’t care about other people and that includes other liberals. Deal with it.

Those in the northeast should just wait for the African communist they elected to come and turn on their power for them, right after he hands out the food stamps and wipes their behinds.
