[Canadian conservative advice to GOP] Faith, family and free enterprise [and Latinos]

Republicans need to make Hispanics identify with their party based on common values. [...]

And there is common ground on the issue of family and several social conservative values. According to the Pew Research Center, while more Hispanic voters describe their values as “liberal” than the general public, they are more socially conservative on abortion and religious observance than the overall population. For even greater self-identification, a high-profile Hispanic candidate on the presidential ticket next time around wouldn’t hurt either. As columnist George Will put it, the real winner in 2012 may be the Republican senator from Florida, Cuban-American Marco Rubio, who is already being touted as a Presidential contender in 2016.

There will be no pandering from conservatives. PERIOD.

Anyone who fears not pandering to illegals will cost the GOP the next election can become democrat so they can have their precious unprincipled win.

Well, for the thousandth time, Marco Rubio is not a natural born citizen and does not meet the constitutional qualifications to run for President.

Also, he came out in favor of illegal amnesty.

I agree that we need to get more blacks and Latinos away from the Democrat party, and one way to do that is to appeal to their Christian values, mostly Catholic and Protestant respectively.

But the way to do that with Latinos is to distinguish between those who are legal citizens and those who are drunken, drug smugglingn illegal aliens.

Currently, some of the most conservative bishops are Hispanic. We need to get the bishops to understand that they have to distinguish between aiding and abetting illegals and helping our poorest citizens, who are only brought lower by the floods of illegals coming into the country. Want to help poor Mexicans? Do it in Mexico, a rich country with all kinds of resources.

But, most of all, identify Mexican politicians who have real values, and can be counted on to help bring back the country from its immoral abyss.

If you keep bringing in illegal alien gang-bangers, then you are just bringing in more Democrat voters.

As for blacks, it might help to remind them that the Democrats are the party of slavery. How often have you heard that, outside of FR? Or how often have you heard that Hitler was not a conservative? Why not speak the truth for a change?

I think it’d be a good time for cnservatives to register as independent en masse.

Yeah, and what if we do, and it still doesn’t work? Which it won’t. Studies show that the majority of Hispanics vote for Dems because they’ve bought into the social justice canard as well. In short, they want the freebies that other “minorities” get. The proof that appealing to social values is a failed idea is the fact that millions of non-Hispanic Catholics voted for Obama. In fact more Catholics voted for Obama than didn’t. Appealing to their moral values won’t get us anywhere with these people. Sorry, we can’t get the minority vote. Not as long as there’s a welfare state and millions of suckers who support it.

For the thousandth time you’re urinating into the wind. If Rubio runs for office in 2016, there’s no one who will stop him. Not you or any of your friends on this forum.

I’m just tired of these arrogant self righteous attempts to fool us ignern’t hillbillies with the same tired arguments they’ve used for years.

If the GOP can’t win without race pandering to they are finished and there isn’t a damn thing anyone is going to do about it. Besides, there is ZERO evidence that it will ever work for the GOP.

If I’m going to lose, I’m going to do it honestly while holding firm to my principles.

In the case of children of Hispanic illegals who stay out of trouble, graduate from high-school, or join the military, I think there’s a good argument to be made for their legalization.

On the other hand, the Romney/RINO/GOPe strategy of pandering to the Planned Parenthood crowd has succeeded only in electing more Democrats.

If we pander to someone, the democrats will pander more and then we’ll be forced to up the ante again.

It worked up in Canada. One of the major reasons the Canadian government is now more conservative than the American one is because Conservatives flipped immigrants and Catholics over issues like abortion and gay marriage.

Democrats support partial-birth infanticide. In fact they’re so extreme on the issue that it’s become one of the few issues where they won’t compromise on. You really think they will pander on this issue?

How did Romney appeal to Catholics when it came to values votes? At best he was a squish on the abortion issue, floating a trial balloon midway through the campaign in which he tried to broaden the circumstances under which he found abortion acceptable. At worst he was being disingenuous with his own record as governor of Taxachusetts. Of course Catholics voters did not trust Romney on the values vote.

Yeah, it may have worked in Canada but in the US the growth in the Latino vote isn’t being driven by immigrants but by their children. There is a huge demographic bulge of young Latinos entering the voting pool. Like all young people, they are super-liberal. This is why the Latino vote is getting more liberal: because the percentage of young Latinos is going up.

Your progressivism is showing in every self righteous attempt to look down your nose at us ignern’t hillbillies. Face it, you aren’t going to win this fight among conservatives we won’t accept it from the GOP.

You need to join the party that values your pathetic and desperate need to pander. I certainly have zero respect for your kind.

Good point. Although I think opportunities through military service would offset this somewhat, since military service tends to instil more conservative values in young people.

As I said, pandering to Planned Parenthood does not seem to be working for you. RINO Romney, the candidate that the GOPe assured us was the only one electable againt Obama, received two million fewer votes than McCain/Palin. Yet that was enough to offset the nine million fewer votes received by Obama.

In other words, not only did Romney lose to a Democrat president that had lost a good chunk of support from 2008, but he also lost to McCain - again!

Obama came out in favor of gay marriage and it didn’t dent his vote share among blacks. There simply aren’t a lot of values voters in these communities.

You are overlooking something - many Hispanics live in communities rife with crime.

I believe appealing to the Rule of Law, that it protects people and their businesses/jobs, will go a very long way with the majority of Hispanics. Respect for law along with conservative social values is the way to go in order to bring minorities into the Republican Party.

Pandering and providing special threatment, the horrid “good for thee but not for me” should never be used by people of principle as it is divisive.
