Biden: 'We've got to get this economy working' before considering 2016 By Justin Sink - 11/09/12 05:26 PM ET

Vice President Biden said Friday that his focus was on helping President Obama to improve the economy, not the potential 2016 run he hinted at on the campaign trail earlier this month.

“There’s plenty of time to think about 2016,” Biden told the Wilmington News-Journal. “We’ve got to get this economy working. If three years from now the economy is not working, it’s not going to be worth doing much. This is all about making Barack an incredibly successful second-term president. That’s my focus.”

Biden had alluded to a possible presidential bid as recently as Election Day, when he was asked after voting if that would be his last time voting for himself.

“No, I don’t think so," Biden said with a grin.

Earlier in the month, Biden seemed to downplay speculation, telling a voter who asked if he's planning to run for president that he was "going to stick as vice president."

The exchange came just days after Biden told the Republican brother of a supporter that the success of Obama administration policies would convince him to "vote for me in 2016."

At the stop Friday in Beloit, Wis., an elderly man asked Biden if he "was going to run for president this time?"

"Oh no, I am going to stick as vice president," Biden said, leaving it unclear whether he was referring to 2012 or an eventual 2016 bid.

But Biden seemed to acknowledge his earlier comment — and the subsequent media coverage — by then pointing to the collected press corps.

"Y'all hear that, press?" Biden said.

Biden has repeatedly sought his party's presidential nomination, most recently in 2008, when then-Illinois Sen. Barack Obama ended up as the choice of Democratic voters.

GFL, Biden. The only way to get this economy kickstarted is if you and the POS in the White House are tarred, feathered, and run out of DC on rails. In a just world, this would have already happened.

No they don't. They'll just keep the media lying that it isn't really that bad and steal the votes they need.

I would just LOVE to see Biden get the dem nomination! The comedic gift bestowed upon us by his running would be legendary! Also, there wouldn’t be a chance in hell he could win.(I don’t THINK - ....you just never know anymore)

Republicans have to increase the acceptance of their brand name. Right now they are the job exporting, Obama hating, tax cuts for the rich, low approval Congress, women controlling and screwers of the middle class. How has that worked out?

Yes, Mr. Speaker if the GOP becomes known as the job creating party for the working middle class, they will triumph in 2016.

“Give it up, Biden. You will NEVER be President.”

I would not bet on it.

50 years ago if someone said someday an African born Marxist of the Islamic faith would not only be elected President, but with a perfectly failed record as President get re-elected, that person not only would have been laughed at but probably be under investigation by the FBI.

The reality is anyone challenging this guy is under scrutiny.

In today’s looney world, a looney like Biden can be President just as much as a Marxist like obama.

Just Joe being Joe.

Dan Quayle is an intellectual GIANT beside this guy. But all that is for naught.

Joe Biden is some sort of protected species, and any effort to criticize him in any way is likely to get you in trouble with PETA and the Humane Society.

We should be encouraging Joe at every opportunity, for the entertainment value alone. He is the gift that just keeps on giving,

O he could absolutely be President. Obama could pull a Putin/Medvedyev switch and hint that he would be a key advisor/cabinet official or newly appointed Czar of America and Biden would rack up 300 electoral votes.
