Obama Win Means U.S. Will Remain Brokest Nation In History

Amid the ruin and rubble of the gray morning after, it may seem in poor taste to do anything so vulgar as plug the new and stunningly topical paperback edition of my book, "After America" — or, as Dennis Miller retitled it on the radio the other day, "Wednesday."

But the business of America is business, as Calvin Coolidge said long ago in an alternative universe, and I certainly could use a little. So I'm going to be vulgar and plug away.

The central question of "Wednesday" — I mean, "After America" — is whether the Brokest Nation In History is capable of meaningful course correction. On Tuesday, the American people answered that question. The rest of the world will make its dispositions accordingly.

In the weeks ahead, Democrats and Republicans will reach a triumphant "bipartisan" deal to avert the fiscal cliff through some artful bookkeeping mechanism that postpones Taxmageddon for another year, or six months, or three, when they can reach yet another triumphant deal to postpone it yet again.

Harry Reid has already announced that he wants to raise the debt ceiling — or, more accurately, lower the debt abyss — by $2.4 trillion before the end of the year, and no doubt we can look forward to a spectacular "bipartisan" agreement on that, too.

It took the government of the United States two centuries to rack up its first trillion dollars in debt. Now Washington piles on another trillion every nine months. Forward!

If you add up the total debt — state, local, the works — every man, woman and child in this country owes 200 grand (which is rather more than the average Greek does).

Yeah, and now it is Saturday. We are going to be even more broke and taxed than on Wednesday and our freedom is picking up and leaving. Not to mention the abhorrent behavior of the democrats and the media.

I didn’t think there was anything worse than the worst.

OK, exactly what do we do now? It occurred to me that political solutions may very well fail in the future due to all the takers. Secession seems unlikely to succeed, because so many people are dependent on government checks - the cities would riot and some old people would be left without any income.

I see the options as 1. leaving the US, but is there a place to go? 2. going Galt, per your name. How does this work? Do you have to move out to the boonies and live like it’s 1800? Please give some ideas. Thanks!

I`m thinking sooner, rather than later. I`m getting my things in order so that I can move to the south, was planning on Texas, but I heard that Georgia passed a law exempting its citizens from Obozo care,maybe there?Either way I'm getting out of the north, if freedom dies, it makes its last stand in Dixie or Texas.

Secession may not be impossible, there are many scenarios that allow for it. Wasn`t there a Russian fellow that predicted the break up of the union and establishment of several smaller nations? The only viable scenario, for now, is to position yourself for a move to more freedom oriented areas of North America. I`m moving down south or to Texas. Go to youtube and search TEOTWAWKI, SHTF, or WROL and use that as a guide.

I don't know. I pulled out of mine about 6 years ago when I lost my primary job (the automotive supplier company went bankrupt). I took the hit and paid down debt. I was very fortunate. The day I yanked it out of the mutual fund was the day it was at its peak. I don't think it ever returned to that level. I don't keep up with them any more, as I am all-out.

I've read since then that they might raid them and force you to convert to government bonds to go towards the debt, but I have no idea what might happen.

Good luck. Stay on top of it. I did a lot of switching back in forth when I was in mine. I went back and forth from aggressive/mildly-agressive to money market depending on what I thought the market was doing.

Already gone. It’s been working out very well the last 4 years. Non-essential spending is at a minimum. Immediate family gatherings have increased. Philosophies of freedom and faith are discussed regularly and grow stronger. Everybody is working and receiving awards/raises/accolades. Everyone is trained for using firearms. We are healthy, cohesive, coherent and have never been stronger. Life in this collective of family and friends is FANTASTIC!

We have DEFUNDED socialist collectives, spoken out against BIG GOVERNMENT socialism/totalitarianism and DEPOPULATED socialists/liberals/progressives/liars/deceivers/totalitarians/parasites from our lives and voted against them in our government.

It’s really EASY.

Family (cohesive) philosophy faith-freedom (studied discussed), shelter (secondaries available) food (storing) protection (practiced) fuels (alternatives available) work (productive) health (practiced) spending (stopped funding anything socialist & most unnecessary) optimism (very high for this collective) enjoyment of life (every minute)

Some categories need more work...others are solid. Produce prepare conserve. It’s fun. It’s easy.

Obama and the socialists were shut out 8-0 in this collective of adults (including my children and their spouses). The little ones were not old enough to vote.

Teach when you can...to anyone receptive. Laugh at the opposition. They are weak. They cannot mount a rational counter-argument.

Also, a lot of fantastic FReepers have other ideas on many threads on what to do. Check them out. Do what works for you. The republic is in crisis mode like I have never seen in my lifetime. There are evil people in the world. Some are Americans. Know the threats to your freedom. I am prepared to defend mine by taking their life when necessary.
